I came here for a friends event and didn't really know what to expect. On the plus side, the bar itself is very spacious and the bartenders were very friendly. On the other hand, I found the decor to be a bit overwhelming, the bathroom smelled horrible and they only offered pizza at night (not gluten free). I only had ginger beer but my friends did say their drinks were strong and seemed affordable. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back there but it seemed like they had a local crowd. read more

Not a planned stop but got it on the way to walk the Williamsburg bridge. Such a spunky spot that is literally a bar (I guess it just converts to one at night). Server was friendly and it is quite dark inside but may be nice for a computer study. The maple spice latte was super good. Sweet but not too sweet and the spice really warmed me up on a chillier day. On par with the "normal" 7$ specialty latte prices you get nowadays but yeah home made maple syrup made it super unique. BEWARE if you're planning to host an event here. The owner has shown very poor customer service and a tendency to overbook or change terms at the last minute. We've had two disappointing experiences planning events at this venue. A close friend booked a birthday party for 50 guests and received written confirmation via email that we'd have access to the music/DJ setup for three hours. When we arrived, we discovered that the owner had booked a jazz band for a two-hour set that directly overlapped with our event. We even rented out the private room for a fee and the band had all of their equipment in there for storage. Luckily the band was incredibly kind and shared our frustrations. We were able to work it out between the both of us with the help of the bar manager. The owner was so childish he refused to speak with the event organizer to help mediate and would only speak through his bar manager to us. Although we had confirmed use of the music system weeks prior, the jazz band said they had been booked over three months ago --clearly a conflict the owner was aware of. Seemed like he was using our large group to compensate for the smaller bar bills the jazz crowd brings in. Both the band and bar staff were incredibly kind about the situation. The owner was the only bad apple. Before this event, another friend of ours was inquiring to rent out the space and the owner changed the pricing at the last minute with no prior notice. When this was pointed out his advice was to "do the math" and no other efforts for resolution were made. They ended up hosting the event at Easy Lover instead which was incredible - great alternative. Bottom line: it's a great place for coffee or remote work--as long as you don't have to deal with the owner. If you're considering hosting an event, proceed with caution. read more

The working bartenders intentionally were as loud as possible during our set, and after multiple patrons came up to them asking them to quiet down, they kept arguing with them and got LOUDER. After recent events, I can no longer recommend Fiction bar/cafe. I have loved coming to Fiction for years, I love their coffee, breakfast burritos, and the espresso martinis. Because I loved this place so much, I booked an event there for this past weekend to host a sizable crowd of 50-80 people and throw a massive party. I loved the staff as they put in so much effort to fix the error the owner made. He knowingly booked a jazz band during the same time I had booked a part of their space and a DJ booth. He forced me to pause my event from 9:30-11 pm and made guests listen to jazz while I threw a disco-themed party from 9 pm to midnight. He stole 90 minutes of my party. The bar manager wasn't even aware of all the events that were to take place that night, and worked very hard to smooth things over. The owner refused to speak to me and texted back saying, "I am busy. It's done" as a response to what was happening. He was curt and dismissive, making him and his place of business look unprofessional. I paid a lot of money and spent a lot of time communicating with him to ensure a smooth evening, and he chose either not to be transparent or genuinely made an oversight. However, he never once apologized or offered a solution. I unfortunately can no longer recommend Fiction as the owner is sleazy and does not care for maintaining good customer service. He ruined what was supposed to be a fun and lovely night with his oversight and lack of accountability. The backroom I rented was also taken over by the jazz band to store their gear DURING the party. So I basically paid him and then did not receive what I asked for and was treated with so much disrespect. Which really sucks because the staff is so kind and amazing but the owner is untrust worthy and money driven with zero regards to good customer service. read more

Only negative is the seating but I still give them 5 stars because I ended up getting a seat, just had to wait about 15 mins by the stairs for one to open up. PROS: close to the subway, tasty coffee, cute shop, open seating. CONS: unsanitary food handling, not super clean, does not check vaccine cards. The female barista did not check any vaccine cards, even though there were two big signs saying we had to show them before sitting down. She braided and rearranged her hair several times behind the counter and did not wash her hands before handling food or drinks. She spoke on the phone through her AirPods the entire time while standing in the corner of the bar, which seemed to distract her from interacting with customers and, more importantly, cleaning the table tops that were dirty, filling the self-serve water jar, or cleaning up the semi-dry, chunky white substance that was near the seating along the wall. read more

Came here after having Peter Luger's for lunch in Brooklyn. Had to go for a walk after that fabulous meal. And we stumbled upon this little cafe. On the outside it wasn't much and to be honest it looked a bit deserted But once you walk inside , it was a super cozy environment with lots of people just chilling and enjoying their afternoon caffeine. The bundles of coffee + burrito are clutch and 10/10 recommend the veggie burrito, which my friend accurately describes as "dank." Densely packed with cheese, sauce, and eggs. Review for 11/2019 Was looking for a new study spot that was not saturated with grad students (yes...I am one of those said grad students) and not hard to get to. While I live in Manhattan, this is a quick 10-15 min subway to my now favorite study joint. There's cozy couches and tables with plenty of space, the baristas are friendly, and it feels unpretentious. They have a good variety of food items with bagels, baked goods, and burritos. Also have overnight oats and juice! I love that they used recycled mugs for water cups to reduce plastic use. At 6pm they transition to a bar- I left before but hope to check out the bar scene there as well. So I paid $6.50 for a matcha (yes, they charged me .50 for the ice) but when I asked the barista to take some ice off the glass,because I like my matcha cold but not too cold, he told me "it's gonna be less milk then" and gave me me 1/4 of the glass empty. When I asked for more milk he said "all I can give you is more ice" very rude and not what you would expect of a $6.50 drink (1/2 gallon of oat milk it's around $5 I'm sure they wouldn't go out of Bussines for some extra milk) very disappointing read more

None of us are cool enough for Williamsburg, but every now and then they forget to shut the door and us plebeians can sneak in. Obviously I stuck out like a sore thumb because I wasn't wearing enough black but thank goodness I got to BKSpeed early for my meeting. The mustachioed fellow working the register was not there to play games: Dear God you'd better know what you're ordering before you get to the counter... Turns out the cool kids eat just like the rest of us. My coffee was pretty great and the bagel was good enough to catch me off guard. No doubt it was due to the fact the laser fast staff with no reason to be so upset had some part in it. There was also plenty of seating. Oh, and the place used to be a converted bar/club - and I can only assume secret society place - which I can only assume was too cool for me as well. Please let me come back... Tried the latte! It was very good. Sometimes you kind of lose the feeling of the beverage because it is lost under all of the milkiness. The milkiness was not over the top so I was still able to taste the flavor of the coffee, which I enjoyed very much. A winner! Ding, ding, ding! read more

However in the last few months, more often than not I leave empty handed because they don't have the items that are on their menu! Order a chai, nope, don't have it. An iced tea? Nope.
