Knit On! had everything I'd ever need for a project and a lot for inspiration too. There were some baby lovey kits and kits for scarves and other fun creations. There are cute pins and jewelry too! I liked how it was all well organized. The proprietor Nancy helped me and was very kind. She showed me where everything is and let me browse as I pleased. She also wound my yarn into a cake/ball for me and let me know they offer knitting lessons if I'd ever like to try! I think I managed to buy some of the softest things ever invented. Some of the yarns were so cool and weird that I actually did a little excited dance! I love that the woman running the shop didn't even laugh at me when I ran up to the register, smiling and giddy, and said "WHAT CAN I MAKE WITH THIS!??!" Instead, she gave me a pattern and made sure I knew how to do all of the stitches, since I told her I was a new knitter. The cat, Tanner, is the fattest cat I have ever seen, but she is absolutely adorable. She sprawls out in the aisles, and if you rub her belly, she'll lay on her back with her legs stretched out and look like a big ole pillow. It's also a nice bonus that they'll wind your yarn for you if you buy any hanks. In my case, this ended up being a double-edged sword though, because I wandered around and found more things that I simply had to buy. Nice trick! I love shopping in small yarn stores like this because they also give you so many project ideas! Looking up on top of a shelf and seeing a beautiful shawl constructed with the yarn you're holding in your hand is awesome and gives you a much better idea of how the yarn actually looks in a project. As I was sitting this morning knitting, I got to thinking about how far I've come. I've been…read moreknitting for about 25 years and crocheting since I was 11 years old--my sister-in-law taught me how to crochet. For years, I stuck with the basics--blankets, scarves, and simple patterns. I would look at all the beautiful sweaters, socks, and tops, read through the patterns, and then skip right over them if I saw stitches like intarsia, short rows, or knit one below. Then it hit me--if you don't jump in and try new techniques, you're never going to make those beautiful things. I realized I was limiting myself by being afraid of what I didn't know. So I decided to go for it. I signed up for the sweater and sock class at Hank's, learning two new things at the same time--yep, I was like, "let's do this!" The support there has been amazing. The staff and other knitters are so encouraging. Even when I made the same mistake ten times, no one ever got frustrated--they were always there to help. And guess what... I DID IT! I made a hoodie for my son, and he loved it. Seeing how happy he was made me so proud--and now I need to make one for my other son! And if I need help, I know they'll be there with open arms. I have grown so much in my knitting because of the encouragement from Hank's staff and the community there. I've also made so many knitting friends through their events--especially Fiber Night, which they hold the last Friday of every month. It's so much fun, along with their trunk shows and just spending time in the shop knitting and talking. It means so much to have a place where you can go, be yourself, and be surrounded by people who love the same craft you do. The support and welcoming atmosphere at my local yarn store truly make all the difference. So if you're like me--skipping over beautiful patterns because of one "dreaded" stitch you think you can't do--jump. Take that next step. YOU CAN DO IT! It seems like it used to be a dentistry or medical office, in my estimation. There is plenty of parking out in front of the store. Inside, you'll find the walls covered with needlepoint canvases. Most are meant to be framed or made into pillows, but there is a section of belts. A sample beanbag frog sits on a stool, beneath more frog canvases. There are boxes and picture frames, which have a small opening to hold a completed needlepoint design. And several small designs meant to fit into those small openings. Near the cash register, there were leather key fobs. So you don't have to just make a pillow. Small projects are quick and manageable. I encouraged my MIL to try one of the smaller ones. One of the ladies who was running the store that day got my MIL all fitted out with a leather jewelry box, canvas to make a 3" diameter cricket, the floss and needles to stitch, and a mesh zipper pouch to hold her project on the road. The travel pouch was my suggestion, since I often hand piece quilts on the road, and I know how important it is to have your stuff ready to grab as you go out the door. That's the secret of getting hand work done. Bring it practically anywhere! All in all, a delightful place with everything one would need for stitching happiness. I asked if they'd mind doing mail order with my MIL, and we were told that they'd be happy to help out from a distance.

I browsed some neat looking skeins of yarn (I did think the price of $15 for enough sock yarn to knit a single adult sock was kinda steep, but the yarn was really pretty and I was in the mindset to spend money) before I noticed a clear cupboard with knitted items and accessories with tags. Since I noticed some were tagged I thought they were all for sale. I opened the doors and started looking through stuff. There was a cool scarf I was hoping to purchase which wasn't tagged, but I didn't realize that initially. I was then approached by two staff members who asked "if they could help me." I asked if anything in the case was for sale. I noticed that they were tense and that the vibes were kind of off, so I said that if they needed me to stop looking through the case I'd step away. They informed me nothing there was for sale and I said okay and stepped away. They told me that there would be items for sale later at a separate event, but I really didn't appreciate the experience as it was. Getting the feeling this place only welcomes a certain type of person and it wasn't me. Which was a bummer, because I was super ready to drop some money. This shop will probably do just fine without my cash but jeez. I don't mind that a shop has rules, but I do think they really could have made a better effort to interact with new customers and make a clearer distinction on which items were for sale and which weren't when I stepped in. The situation could have 100% been avoided and they could have provided a better experience. (Also, if knitted items aren't for sale, why is like 1/4 of the store's displayed items knitted pieces with tags? My boyfriend said, "I'm going to wait outside". The store is filled to the brim with beads. Beads of every size, every color, and every style. I especially liked the Swarovski crystal beads because they were extra sparkly! I think they put these beads near the window to draw people in and I guess it must have worked! The counter in the middle of the store has all of the hooks and clasps you need to make your own jewelry. They also carry a large amount of twine, wire, and any other type of string you could need. The class schedule is impressive. Lots of techniques for lots of applications. Some are solely dedicated to the Swarovski beads! Slightly pricey but fair enough, I was excited to order a mini plank for Christmas. The pick up process is non-existent... I privately messaged the Facebook page to learn the process. AR could definitely upgrade this experience by including pick up instructions in the confirmation email. I was given a list of times I could pick up my order. Waited a few days and headed into the shop... nothing was prepared. I had a very small slice of time to pick up my order and unfortunately it took far too long. I would very highly recommend you call ahead to confirm to your order is in fact ready. Sadly, I was hoping for some cute gift packaging... maybe some tissue paper or literally anything besides just the wood and paints. My piece of plank wood does not sit flat and the handles were different than pictured. Overall, an extremely "meh" experience but the ladies who work there are super nice and that's important.

Personalized signs to decorate your house, pillows, yard signs, etc. Think of all the cutest stuff at Home Goods but with your personal touch. Visit their website to pick a workshop to attend. Each workshop has a selection of projects for you to choose from. You enter your name, year, or whatever personal info they need to set up your project. When you arrive all of your supplies and your stencil is waiting for you. You spend the next couple hours working on your creation with the guidance of the owner or other employees, and at the end you have an awesome new piece of art to take home. I am not at all creative but they make it fool proof! The owner Katie and her mom were running the show the afternoon I attended my first workshop. I was nervous to mess something up, but between them and my friend who had attended a previous workshop I was able to create a personalized sign that will go perfect in my living or dining room. (It definitely helped that I was with someone who knew what they were doing. My only critique is that there were times I had to wait for direction or wasn't super clear what I was doing. If you're more patient than me and not afraid to ask questions though, it's really not an issue.) I can't wait to come back and create something for my daughter's room or gifts for my mom and sister. Everything is so cute and I want to do all the projects! I'll be back! Oh yeah, and it's BYOB. :) My friend and I split of bottle of cider as we worked. Seriously, perfect Saturday!
