Prepping my centerpiece box
Lauren J.

*** MUST CHECK THIS PLACE OUT! *** Visited AR Workshop last night for the first time with my sister in-law. We had SO much fun! The ladies at AR Workshop were wonderful to work with and helped us along the way with our projects. I've done so many of the canvas painting classes in the the past (also fun), but how many of those can you do until the paintings just stack up in a pile somewhere in your house. Here you get to make pieces that are not only fun, but perfect for home decor or even to give as gifts! They never go out of style, so you can keep them up all year long or for a season. The best part was we literally started from the complete beginning to end of our projects by sanding down the wood, staining, putting the pieces together painting, priming, and painting again! My sister in-law decided on a Christmas themed framed wood sign and I made the 32 in centerpiece box. Both of us loved the idea of doing something for the holiday to decorate our home. There are so many choices of what you can create. Check out their calendar for the various project options, pick you date, pick your project and then design. Many of the projects allow for customization, so you can add a family name, date, ect... Once signed up go with friends and enjoy the fun! AR Workshop is a hidden gem in Hyde Park that every needs to know about!

Hyde Park

Legasies in Hyde Park is my favorite go to for things I'm looking for, or for gifting. The staff is…read moreso friendly and helpful. Always ever changing stock, so you'd better get it when you see it.

Legacies has a reputation of being a high end consignment store. It has some very nice pieces…read more That said, customer service and accounting accountability are lacking. I sent several photos in of rugs, picture, and houseware goods for consideration. Legacies took the rugs and picture. A rug and picture sold. I was told they had too many lamps on my first visit; the second visit they were taken. I received one check and cashed it. When I checked in person to see what else had sold, Donna told me I was to expect another check in the $40 range the first week of November. That was inaccurate. I talked to Stephanie Aldridge, the manager, who tap danced around my issue. I asked her to talk to Donna about the mistake. I asked her for an accounting of what I had sold. She thought I asked about cashing of the first check; that was not the question. I knew the first check came in and it was cashed. She made a mistake and didn't acknowledge it either. She said checks are mailed the first of the month, but to expect them when the mail delivered them. I have one more check for $15 to be delivered in December. Stephanie finally agreed to send me the accountant's statement of date, piece, cost, payment, which should have been sent as a matter of course. This is basic business. One has to keep business transactions straight and accurate. Legacies doesn't contact the customer when anything sells. You have to wait until you receive a check or ask in the store. There is also a $2 charge for every check sent, which is unnecessary, particularly with relatively small payments. I asked Stephanie to let me know when the last date was to sell the remaining rugs. She didn't answer that question. I told her I didn't want the rugs donated and that I would pick them up on the last date. She decided to simply put the rugs in her office and I could pick them up, which I will do. I have done business with a reputable consignment shop for years. They take everything I have because they know it is quality merchandise. I am hardly the only person who has had trouble dealing with Legacies. I suggest you find somewhere else to consign your items.
