How has no one reviewed this little gem yet?!…read more Believe it or not, I'm a HUGE quilter and I've finally found my Home Planet: Stitches. This place is great: a huge selection of vibrant cotton fabrics all perfectly arranged by color value and theme. There's even a special little room where everything is discounted! This place is packed from front to back with some of the most gorgeous colors/designs you've ever seen and likely won't see elsewhere. On top of the amazing fabrics are the services: they will use a long-arm to quilt your sandwich (that makes perfect sense to quilters)! For a nominal fee based on size, you can flip through a BINDER filled with options, and the turn around time is great. If you need something quicker, just pay an extra fee to get bumped to the front of the line. These ladies have your back I've been there when it's slow )and just enjoyed chatting about my projects and perusing fabrics), and I've been there when it's jumping (they teach classes and have a lovely group of older ladies who giggle the place up as they work). The place is covered with amazing quilted projects/tapestries on the walls, and every time I visit I spend more than I should. I'm heading back out there this weekend to pick up a few quilting projects, so I'll be sure to attach pictures soon. In the meanwhile, treat yourself to a relaxing afternoon )whether you're a quilter or not), and just wander around this place so you can oooo and ahhhhh at all the pretty colors. Pro tip: Stitches is in the Glendale Pavilion, which is a series of quaint little shops and eateries. Build time in your schedule to wander around after visiting Stitches. Grab a lemon bar at the bakery around the corner (delicious), sip a glass of rosé at the wine bar (great service), or my personal favorite...stop in at Meritage for some of the most delectable food you've ever had. I'd recommend the scallops. P.S. if you were a Joann's devotee, you'll likely notice the prices are a touch higher here at Stitches, BUT keep in mind this is not a chain, it is independently owned, and these ladies sources their own fabrics quite deliberately.

I've tried to over look it and give them a chance but today I went there and another lady that was working the shop was also cold and extremely unfriendly. I have choice of where I spend my disposable income and frankly I'll never spend another dime at this place. Unfortunately the lady that is in the shop on Fridays is very nice. If I win the lottery I'm opening a quilt shop just to put this jerks out of business. Interesting thing in my travels looking for fabric I talked to dozens of people that say the same thing I do about unfriendly and unwelcoming they are when you enter the shop. How does a place like this stay in business? One lady that does my machine quiliting told me they only like you if you are a quilt snob!!!!

One of the best things about this place is simply walking around and letting the inspiration come to you! I ended up buying three random trophy stands for sculptures I'm working on, and all three together were only 15 cents! The prices are amazing. You're welcome to donate while checking out, and you can also pay what you feel is fair based on your budget and what you think the item is worth. They do provide a suggested price when you check out, so it doesn't feel like an uncomfortable haggling situation. Shop is bright and clean, neat and has lots of samples, especially those which would appeal to practical folks. We loved the little jewelry cases, key chains, and wallets available to make as well as the ornaments, especially the peacock one. We were helped by the friendly staff and we were especially impressed with Sarah, who is young enough to convince the teenager that needlepoint is hip!! The staff made some great beginner suggestions and took a few minutes to get her going and now she's addicted! We really appreciated the "youth friendly" attitude even from a customer who was there working on her project. She was happy to share and encourage as well. Seems like this shop has a warm community. We will certainly return.
