We needed a place to eat after 9 pm on a Sunday night. Fortunately for us, Fibber McGee's was within walking distance of where we were staying. We weren't super hungry, so got the classic burger, which was giant and juicy and delicious...cooked to medium as requested. We ordered rice pilaf as a side (for my daughter, which she loved) and a basket of their hand-cut fries, which were piping hot and crispy! Oh my goodness did they ever hit the spot! My husband and I went here after hearing lots of good things about this restaurant and we weren't disappointed. It is a casual pub. The folks are very friendly and service was prompt. I got the patty melt with hand cut fries. It was perfectly cooked and delicious. My husband got the ribs, which were fall-off-the-bone delicious and you can choose from about 10 different sauces for them. We also shared the Korean BBQ pulled pork egg rolls and they were excellent. The prices are reasonable as well. We will definitely be back. read more

I believe the 3.5 stars rating on Fibbers is right on the money and I would have given them that had it been an option. However, my experience warranted a bit closer to under 3.5 than above it, hence the 3 star rating. From the outside it looks like a little local dive but it's much nicer on the inside than I thought and the place looked very clean, although I never ventured into the restrooms which is always a telltale sign of a restaurant's cleanliness. The bartender was affable and efficient so no issues there. When the bar became full, the service understandably lagged just a bit, but she did as well as could be expected. I'm a Keno player so kudos to Fibbers for that as well as having outstanding Buffalo wings. The wings were the perfect size, and were cooked to my crispy specifications as I had ordered. It came with blue cheese (better than ranch in my opinion) as well as celery and carrots. Big ups for having fresh celery and carrots as most places are doing away with that when serving Buffalo wings. The sauce could have been a bit hotter but I'm nitpicking at this point because they were terrific and, unbeknownst to me, they do have a variety of sauces to choose from including a hotter Buffalo sauce. I would say Fibber's is as good as it gets in terms of Buffalo wings, thus, they are nothing short of a 10...or 5 in Yelp's case. So here's where the 5 turns into a 3.5 for me. The cheeseburger we ordered was good but was cooked medium well and not medium as requested. It also tasted as though it had a spice or seasoning in the meat which didn't add anything but wasn't offensive either. It just confused my taste buds a bit, but overall it was a good burger. We also had the steak tips which we could only get marinated. That tells me they probably buy them that way and do not make their own marinade because if they did it themselves they would, or should anyway, have tips without the marinade. I prefer the tips naked but it is becoming increasingly difficult to find them unmarinated. All of that said, the marinade was not as sticky sweet as most which was a relief as I prefer a more savory marinade (aka soy sauce, ginger based). The tips were good and cooked medium as I had requested but a bit chewy. The accompanying French fries were pre-salted and of the shoestring variety. I'm not a fan of the pre-salted fries but these were better than most but still not my style. I guess the tipping point between north of a 3.5 and south was the price. The Classic cheeseburger was $11 which was okay but the steak tip sub with onions and peppers was $17 which seems a bit pricey for a pub. Ordering only two soft drinks, wings, a burger, and a steak tip sub it came to $48 before tip, which isn't crazy but a bit too pricey for sandwiches that were good but not extraordinary. In short, go for the wings! On Tuesdays they are 50 cents apiece and that alone makes Fibber McGee's worth going to on a regular basis. read more

Quite possible the best pub experience I have had in over a decade and I wasn't even drinking. First time here. If we lived closer we would be regulars. Another Yelp find that lived up to its rating! We went there for a late-ish lunch around 2PM on a Saturday. We had a beautiful morning on the water and were hungry. It was busy but not crowded. I personally like a tavern with a big bar that is the center of attention. The huge circular wood bar with brass foot rail was certainly that. If we didn't have our kids with us we'd have pulled up a chair. The side tables were spacious. We like spicy food not overpowering but as an accent. We also like Sante Fe, southwestern and Mexican cuisine. Tex Mex, not so much, but that's a different story. The mac and cheese with poblano and jalapenos was crazy good. Drizzled with sriracha sauce (which must have been diluted/low heat because given the quantity of drizzle it should have been scorching hot). The deep fried dill pickles were fun - especially after they cooled down a bit - warning do not eat right away. I have had these as chips, never chunks. I think I like the chunks better - there's enough pickle to get the dill taste instead of just batter. Main course was a couple of burgers and the steak bomb special. Home made hand cut fries topped off each meal. The fries were top notch - fried perfectly and lightly salted and peppered - yum! We also got the onion rings - not bad but stick to the fries (bartender told us they were not house made vs fried which were). Both burgers were 2 thumbs up and the steak bomb was really good. The bartender was covering the whole place and doing a fantastic job. He must have been waiting the equivalent of 10 tables (almost everyone as eating) plus some drinkers. Very friendly. A waitress came in around 3PM probably for the dinner shift. It was gorgeous outside so I am sure the place could get crazy if the weather was not as nice. Service was not quick, but timely. When we where there there was a nice vibe, patrons were chatty with each other at the bar without it being weird. I don't know what they were playing for mix, but it was a great mix. read more

I've lived in Beverly my whole life & remember when Fibbers was called Crackers. This is the first time I've ever been inside. We went at dinner time on a Saturday night. It wasn't packed & the bar crew hadn't arrived. My family was able to have a night & enjoyable dinner. The steak tips were outstanding. They were so tender & cooked perfectly. The mashed potatoes & spinach were also excellent. The spinach was a bit salty but hey, that's not bad. Our only negative was the chicken Marsala, the chicken wasn't lovely cutlets but rather chicken fingers that were then put in the Marsala sauce. The sauce was good but the chicken was so so. I was really hoping to have a Reuben since I saw them listed on their online menu. I was a tad disappointed to not see it on their regular menu. Will we come back, probably. Came back to town for the holiday, and fibbers was always my "go-to". Idk what the heck happened here, but it's only been four months since I've been away and this place is a catastrophe. The new bartenders are rude and and don't pay attention to anyone. They have an attitude and are slow af. We're a pretty easy going group, and we struggled to get drinks, never mind a few apps. Second time here and as with the first it was a great experience!! Bartenders are great and the food was so delicious - had the bacon cheeseburger and partner had the half rack of ribs. Burger was huge and had the best flavor, done perfectly and served on a potato roll while the ribs were so good there was nothing left but a pile of bones! Also ordered a side of Mac n cheese just cuz we wanted to try it and it was another hit! We both ate too much but when the food it this good how can you not ? Will definitely be back soon! read more

There are things in the world that I wish for..A Genie Pops Out Of A Bottle. Genie...'d like an endless supply of fresh smoked salmon and vine fresh tomatoes in my refrigerator. Genie.. Could I have a set of balls big enough to allow me to walk away from my job and allow me to trust my abilities to be self employed? Genie..Could I have a girlfriend who can give me a run for the money on The Sunday Times crossword puzzle, and who knows the intrinsic mutual value of a well timed blowjob? Genie.. Just so I am not perceived as being selfish...Can I offer the standard Miss America wish for "World Peace"? And Finally.. Genie... More than all those other wishes...I wish Fibbers would get their act together so I can call it "My Bar" with no hesitation. You see... I live sooooo close to Fibbers that if the restroom there was deplorable (It's not!) I could go to my house and be back in my seat at the bar before the beer bubbles get to the top of the glass. (I pee real fast) Living close to an establishment like Fibbers has some great advantages... like not having to drive there...like being able to drink all I want before stumbling home, and it's nice having a place to get away which is cheaper than buying a vacation property, in some god forsaken mosquito infested inbred populated town in NH. I want so badly for Fibbers to cut the mustard! I really, really do. I went in there recently for the first time since they changed from being the Fish Hill Tavern... I did not know what to expect, but here is what I found... The service was inattentive and slow... To the point where the owner should be mightily pissed. The staff behind the bar missed opportunity after opportunity to make more money for the house. There were so many employees at the joint either on duty, or off duty and they were all more intent on socializing with each other than taking care of all us schlubs sitting at the bar with empty glasses. What does this mean? It means that during my time there I would have had three beers instead of two but the server did not pay attention to the empty glass sitting right in front of me... It was an opportunity lost while the amount of time I could remain at the bar evaporated... I was patiently thirsty...There were many people that could have rectified the desert in my glass, but they were too busy.... busy talking with what looked like the manager, (sitting there with a Corona, the lucky bastard!) busy talking with each other, busy going outside for smoke breaks, etc. They were ignoring the two bottom lines....The customer, and the profit margin of one more beer. (The two are intertwined...an empty glass...a customer who wants to spend money.....hello?) The big picture about that is this... I am a customer that has the potential to walk in that door and spend my money 2 to 4 times a week, every week for years and years. If the staff at Fibbers cared they would scratch my surface a little and find a lit sign above my head that screams "THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS" for you in the next 5 years...If you wake up... I like popping into places for a beer, and some pub food, and I like watching sports in a bar. Can someone add that up? The profit potential from a customer like me is limited only by how far I want to slip into alcoholism. I'm the perfect customer for Fibbers and they are blowing it by not watching what is important. Many of the faces behind the bar are familiar...All beautiful and some are from the Fish Hill days...They have been there a while and know the ropes. There is however, one face glaringly missing behind the bar and I wish Fibbers had the oooooomph to find her, get her back, and pay her, what she is worth to an establishment like theirs... She made a difference to the bottom line...I am sure about that. All I know is that when she was behind the bar she was non stop customer centric, and she delivered the goods for the owners...stocking, restocking, riding herd on those not doing anything...She set the pace for the whole staff and her attitude, work ethic and good cheer were infectious to the whole staff. She had to be worth whatever they were paying her because the place hummed when she was in the house and the sad difference is now very noticeable. I forget her name but she was shorter, dark haired, delectably assed, funny, and like a Border Collie when it came to work and nipping the heels of the slothlike. The repelling stench of "I don't care" now permeates the whole place... It's crazy.... It was "Wing Night" and for a Tuesday the crowd was pretty good. I had something else because my bartender failed to tell me about the wings. The basic pub food has potential. It's a little too pricey, for the ambiance, and lack of service but I found what I had to be pretty good. Are you listening Genie? Fix Fibbers? oh... and can you have them put PBR on tap. read more

Came here the night before Thanksgiving...it got crowded, but I had a great time and the Nachos were good. The prices were average and the service was good. We kept leaving the bar to go outside and even when there was a huge line the bouncers didn't give us problems for popping in and out. read more

Waring School faculty like to hang out here for dinner on Fridays as we break bread, talk about the week and solve the world's problems. Our waitress Melissa totally gets us, remembers what people like to order, and treats us like royalty. The menu has become better and better over the years, and the prices are quite reasonable. It's a place where everybody knows your name. I wish that I could take back my short but dismissive review of the food in 2010, because it's now a great place to eat. read more

To start off with, I've only ever been here once. And once was honestly enough for me. I could probably see myself going back here again if my options were cut short or I had another social engagement to go to. Aside from that, nothing great about this place. I'm a huge fan of dive bars, and ever since moving to the North Shore (well, back to Massachusetts in general), I've been searching out for that perfect dive bar that has all the wonderful and grittyness that I've come to love. This wasn't it. It wasn't even on the verge of being a nice bar either. The waitstaff was quite friendly and she kept joking with us about the amount of wings we were ordering. You couldn't really beat their wing night special. There drink list was pretty decent as well. Although I always have a problem paying $4 for a Corona. My biggest gripe? The other patrons. For a good two hours the four top sitting behind me went from sober, to drunk as a skunk. College aged people, apparently out on a double date. Being able to follow their conversation more so than my own was a little irritating. I heard all about their sexual escapades and even them gossip to the others every time someone went to the restroom. Do I really need to hear you screaming about how you aren't ghetto and north shore trash? Not really. So, meh. I've had better. read more

Went there last night (Sat) with the GF...wasn't crowded at 7pm but quickly filled up afterwards. We always sit at the bar and were promptly greeted by the servers, who were friendly and helpful all evening. Ordered the cowboy wings and jalapeno burger. The wings were meaty and perfectly cooked, and there were about 10 on the plate. The burger was also tasty and the onion rings crispy. Great service and good food, we will be going back. A band was setting up and started playing around 10 pm.....we left as they weren't very good and it was getting too crowded. read more

Ive lived in Beverly for 3 years now.... I went into Fibber McGees awhile ago and thought it was alright... Just recently I was out for a walk and stopped in to grab supper... I had their steak tips.!! They are awesome!!!! I then took a friend in with me...Got the sampler...Steak tips, chicken and bbq ribs!!!! They were awesome!!!! Went back again!! Had the nachos!! Awesome!! Went back again for more steak tips!!! Awesome!!! The service was great too!! Friendly bar staff!!... Small talk...But just enough to let me know they are nice people and welcoming. They are a great bar selection. Plenty of space and the noise level depends on what time you're in there. I plan on continuing to go back again soon. read more

My girlfriend and I are new to the area and we decided to check out Fibber McGee's on a Thursday night and grab some apps and beers. Place was busy but not crowded, there were tables available but we decided to sit at the bar. Service was prompt, friendly and helpful. The bartenders readily explained what beers were on tap, what food specials were running and even offered to let my girlfriend try one of the beers that she was thinking about getting. The Firecracker Chicken Quesadillas were very good, the appetizer order was enough for both of us to share. We really had no complaints about the place, we will definitely be back now that we are in the area and can definitely see this place becoming our go-to local pub. If I could give less stars I would.. me and my boyfriend went there the other day and sat outside because we were told we couldn't wait for an indoor table.. so after sitting outside there is a table of drunks next to us running and throwing up everywhere being extremely loud and still getting served.. that didn't even bother us. What bothered us was having to wait 75 MINUTES just for a steak tip sub that was 17$ and the size of my hand. I have been here for both dinner and the bar scene. Dinner was good, we ate a bar table. I had the half roasted chicken with french fries and carrots. The fries are awesome. The carrots were hard, would not get those again, but the chicken was good. Our waitress was really friendly. The bar scene was fun. Went on a Friday night around 10, it was getting crowded. As a hardcore townie and Beverly lifer, Fibbers is a weekend after-dinner, before-stumbling-home staple. Oddly enough, I have never eaten a meal here, but I hear good things regarding their slightly-better-than-average pub fare. (Side note: is it just me, or does this review already have a shit ton of hyphens? Why are there not appropriate words for me to describe things without having to create word hybrids?!) For how I use it (see above), Fibbers is consistent and does its job well. Love having cider on tap...like, LOVE having cider on tap. Prices are average, bathrooms are average, I can usually find a seat at the bar, service is good. I wouldn't typically pick Fibbers as my destination of choice for late night, just because I do like to sit, and the place is always SLAMMED (which does speak well of the business, so Kudos, Fibs!). Stopped in on a Thursday night and it was PACKED. We had a big group back in a corner. The waitresses were quite nice, but I had a long conversation about one about food, ordered the chili, and she forgot. When it was time to leave, she excessively apologized and gave me chili to go, which was super nice. I can explain why I went to Fibber McGee's in 3 words: NFL Sunday Ticket. I would have been willing to sit in a ditch on the side of the road if it had a decent sports package that would let me watch the Cowboys game on demand. Fortunately, I didn't have to settle for a ditch, because I found Fibber McGee's. A few reasons why I am now a fan of this place: 1) As mentioned, you can watch the Cowboys - or any other NFL team you want to cheer for, or any other sporting event for that matter - on nice, clear flatscreen TVs. 2) They've got a strong selection of beers on draft, including a number of local and seasonal brews. 3) Decent food. I had a spinach salad that tasted good and was a good sized portion. 4) NFL Sunday Ticket. On slight knock against Fibber McGee's is that there are very few windows and little to nothing in the way of , which, on a bright, sunny day, can be a bit disorienting. Reading other Yelpers' review, sounds like it would be quite a different experience if I were to visit Fibber McGee's at night. If that had been the case, I probably would have hated it. But on a Sunday afternoon when my team is playing, Fibber McGee's works just fine for me. read more

I've been to Fibber's only when it wasn't crowded (hey, I'm old), so my experience has been better than the preceding reviews. I've had the reuben (average), the hamburger (good) and the shepherd's pie (ample and good). The fries that come with the sandwiches are not particularly tasty. I've been able to sit at the bar to watch ballgames, and have had good service from two bartenders (one male, one female), and some pleasant conversation with Dave, the owner, who hails from Liverpool and has actually ferried across the Mersey. read more

This place has so much potential, but because the owner is a moron it still is an average gin mill at best. For some reasons the prices on booze are higher than the Wildhorse, Finz, and Victoria Station. I guess its because the owner wants to keep out the former Press Box crowd, but he contradicts himself with the music he plays there. He'd be better off getting more live bands or DJs that don't blast hip hop. If you don't want idiots in there, don't make the atmosphere welcoming to them. Hip Hop is great but it attracts idiots. If he's playing it to attract Endicott kids, he's striking out with his prices. Like other bars in the area, the bartenders and wait staff make up for the shortcomings of the owner and the food. It's worth going in to watch a Sox game because there are plenty of TVs, but don't be surprised if you leave there spending $80-$100. read more

Gf had the steak tip sub. I got a Spicy burger with franks sauce. Burger was cooked perfectly, medium rare. Don't usually get this type of burger but it worked for me. I tried the marinated tips and I liked them. Bartender did a great job. read more
