    Spicy potatoes
    Gayl B.

I'm not sure why the negative reviews! I had an excellent meal here. Definitely a solid sangria, too. My hubby and I decided to do tapas: razor clams, Iberian ham croquettes, anchovies in white vinegar, tomato bread, spicy potatoes. The bread was just the perfect flavor and crunch. The razor clams were very good. However, if you are used to Pacific coast razor clams, you might be a tad disappointed, as these are not as thick. Anchovies were definitely on point--very good! The spicy potatoes were filling and tasty. I wouldn't recommend the Iberian ham croquettes, only because there isn't enough ham taste in them for the money. Instead go for a cone filled with ham from a ham store. Service was good. I think that trying to speak Spanish was appreciated. And, the interior of building is cozy.

We arrived here after the lunch crowd and the restaurant was almost empty. The service was excellent. We had tapas and beer and sangria. The beer was San Miguel on tap. The sardines in vinegar were excellent (if you like sardines). The ham croquettes were acceptable. The spicy potatoes were great. The razor clams were perfect. The tomato bread was a little thin but tasty. If you are exploring in the Gothic Quarter you have many choices. This may not be the most exciting place in town, but the food is filling and tasty. Overall a very pleasant experience.

Pata Negra anyone? Absolutely!!! yummm I ordered a HUGE plate of it and regretted it until I began gobbling it down like there was no tomorrow. Skip the salmon salad, it's super saltyyyy- I couldn't even eat the Salmon :0/ Tomato bread is ridiculously little here and .... Overpricedddddddd Ham croquettes are to die for!!!! I would go again just to shove these in my mouth! Next time, I would skip this experience and opt for almost anywhere else instead

This is a beautiful restaurant with a lot of old-world charm. It is conveniently located on one of the roads off of La Rambla. The walls, bar and staircase are covered in dark cherry wood. There are chandeliers, fancy drapes, leather-covered chairs and nice tablecloths on the tables. Someone from our hotel's front desk recommended this place which got each of us a complimentary glass of sparkling wine. I enjoyed it. A bowl of olives was also offered as a free appetizer. The paella we ordered was very good. Warning Don't go here if you're a vegetarian because they proudly display large, skinned sections of dead animals on the bar. Were these parts of pigs, lambs, cows? Who knows. I found it unappealing since they were close to our table and had hooves attached. Maybe it's my North American sensibilities or I'm just a meat-eating hypocrite but I'd prefer them in the kitchen.

    AMAZING octopus!

When: Friday at 4:30pm Party Size: 2 Octopus: 12/10 This was probably my favorite dish in Barcelona. Their octopus was so fresh and tender. It has a nice kick from the seasoning but it literally melts in your mouth. This is a must-order item. Croquettes + Rice balls: 6/10 Nothing special here. Fried things always are great. These were crispy but not memorable. Paella (single serving): 6/10 You must order a side app in order to get a single serving of paella. It was a little bland compared to what I've had during my stay in Barca Tomato Bread: 8/10 Crispy, light, and flavorful. This was good. Service: 7/10 Quick and responsive. Empty place but they catered to us. Ambiance: 6/10 It was empty during the time we went. It's nice inside but pretty dark with cherry wood everywhere. Overall: 6/10 I'd come back strictly for the amazing octopus!

    Patatas bravas

I would give this place a 0 star if I could. This was hands down the worst meal I've ever had in my entire life. You might as well go to the Taco Bell across the street. We got about 6-7 tapas and all of them were trash. Do not eat here

Best Paella and Sangria I ever had!! We stumbled into this place after arriving in the city and can think of no better way to get acquainted with Spanish cuisine. The service was impeccable as well.

Nestled in an unassuming network of cobble stone lined alley ways are hidden gems worth discovering. We came looking for tapas, paella, sangria; and we found just that. Location: Plaza de España is within a 5 min walk, blocks away from shopping, and 30 minutes from the airport by way of shuttle. Used Google Maps with several sharp turns to find this local favorite. Service: the owner employs his pet Pomeranian, that follows the wait staff unconditionally. This is a no frills restaurant; grab a seat anywhere you like, and order off the menu. What we ate: Table service - pitted olives; briny and herbaceous. So delicious as an appetizer. Crisp Potatoes - served with aioli and red pepper sauce; so simple yet so comforting. Fried Calamari - can't go wrong with crispy calamari. Pork & Mushroom Paella - I know we're used to seeing seafood, but pork and mushroom with crispy rice is different, bold, and worth each bite. Sangria Blanco - I won't lie, it was heaven with the first sip, and it left me wanting more. Unlike its red cousin; white sangria is lighter and more fruit forward. So refreshing! After 18 hours of transiting; this was a delectable experience.

Ziryab seemed to fit the bill, so we made plans to stop here during our first night in the city. Ziryab is located close to the Gothic Quarter, on side street. It's kind of inconspicuous from the outside, but the interior gives way to a really welcoming space. The restaurant is separated into two main areas, with an earth-tone color scheme that has a rustic, almost cave-like aesthetic. The high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows keep the dining room open and spacious. The tapas menu had a good selection, and we decided on several items: pan con tomate, sweet potato rolls, chicken cannelloni, bacon-wrapped figs, croquettes, falafel, and a charcuterie board. All the tapas were great - my favorites were the chicken cannelloni, pan con tomate, and the charcuterie board. The cannelloni especially was a standout - definitely a unique dish, and the chicken was super flavorful. We opted for dessert, and got the feta whip cheesecake - this was great as well. The combination of tang and sweet was a good finisher to our meal. Service was great - everyone was friendly and our dishes were served at a good pace. Overall, I'm glad I tried out Ziryab - the tapas were delicious and atypical of ones you find elsewhere in Barcelona. I would have no qualms returning here for another meal.

The service was very attentive, and our waiter, a fellow Ecuadorian...was very professional and friendly. We ordered staple tapas and dessert, and the food was very delicious. I had no idea how huge and elegant the restaurant was until I went inside to use the bathroom before leaving. We were there just after 7 pm so it wasn't as busy as I imagine it will get later, because in Barcelona, people don't have dinner until 9 or 10 PM. We ordered fresh salmon with dill, coroquetas de jamón iberico, a cod fritter, and chicken cannelloni with foie gras and black truffle sauce. We also ordered the pan with tomate, of course to soak up the truffle sauce. The cannelloni was amazing! I mean it melted in your mouth amazing!! After our snacks... We ordered dessert. We ordered their homemade Belgian chocolate ice cream, which is hands-down, the best chocolate ice cream I've ever eaten. And we also ordered their version of a crème brûlée called crema Catalonya! Both desserts were amazing, however, I highly recommend the Belgian chocolate ice cream. Overall, the experience was amazing and I hope to pop in again before we leave. Enjoy!

Both my son and I are very picky about Lebanese food having been spoiled by the excellent Lebanese in our home town Los Angeles, so we ordered with trepidation. The very first must-try dish immediately set our minds at ease: please, do yourselves a favor and order their Fatoush salad. It's done so right, juicy tangy, bursting with flavors and the pita in the salad is made into a curly flower and gives a delicious crunch. We liked the dish of garbanzo and yogurt a bit less, as it was quite heavy and lacked flavor. My son was very pleased with shish tavouk with chicken, and I loved my halloumi dish.
