I visit Ferguson Brewing Co just about every time I'm in town. I love the atmosphere and they always have new seasonal beers to try. Can't decide? Pick a flight and try 4 of them. My favorites are the Pilsner, Irish Red, and they had a coffee seasonal in November which was phenomenal! As for food, you have to get the house chips and French onion dip. I've tried several other items on the menu and haven't really ever been disappointed, except for with the chicken fingers.. To start I ordered a sampler of beers. Pilsner, Irish red, California common and the black lager. All ok. The best was the pilsner. Spinach artichoke dip was great. Served with bread and not chips. Ordered the fish and chips. The fish was golden brown and crisp. Fries are fries nothing special. Then I ordered a second sampler of beers. Belgian Wit, St. Louis pale ale. West coast ale, oatmeal stout. All good. The best was Belgian wit. My wife was bummed they didn't have the steak tenderloin sandwich. My entree was a bit closer to mediocre, however. My initial experience at this place was great, so I returned 4 more time. The visits that followed that first one have all been disappointing. The toasted ravioli was burnt 3 consecutive times, the smoked wings are over smoked and quite frankly have been old. 30 -35 minutes is a long time to wait on wings, fries and toasted ravioli which are all off the appetizer menu. They have a medium-sized selection (about 8) of fairly standard beers (a pale ale, an IPA, a hefeweizen, a stout...). I tried their winter saison which had some interesting winter spices and a faint hint of juniper berry to it; it was definitely unique so that alone bumps up my review from 3 to 3.5 stars. If I'm to be completely honest, sentimentality makes me a tad uncomfortable for "only" giving Ferguson Brewing 3 stars. Given all the sociopolitical bs this town has had to suffer through, I fully support and am proud of the good things that are being done by businesses in Ferguson, including this one. But at the end of the day, if I'm to be objective, I'm giving Ferguson Brewing a sold 3.5 stars for their beer - a good, but not great, brewery in STL's craft brew scene. read more

This place was mehhh all around - meh beers, meh food and meh service. I wasn't impressed with the imperial IPA so I didn't finish it. I ordered the fish tacos with a side of fruit for dinner. The sliver of fish (mahi mahi) served in the tacos was dry and overcooked. The avocado was old and browning. I ate one taco and threw the last two tacos away. My fruit was awful. I confused the orange slices for lemon because they were so sour. My strawberries were also half green because they weren't ripe. Our server was monotone and straight faced the entire time. I always enjoy coming here for a good beer and some good food. The humus appetizer is a meal unto itself; be prepared to take some humus home. The Bavarian pretzel bites are another delicious appetizer. The cheese sauce does remind me more of the nacho cheese sauce that comes from a concession stand but the pretzels are good sized and the mustard is not to be missed. On this trip I tried the shrimp and spinach salad for my main course. The flavors are good but get the dressing on the side; the salad was drowning in it. It was a good sized salad and can be a meal for one. But the main reason to come here is for the delicious beer! Make sure you get in this fall for the their take on the pumpkin beer. read more

This place is great! Was in St. Louis for work & this place was recommended by the hotel receptionist. I had the southwest veggie wrap for dinner one day, the southwest salsa the best day for lunch and returned back for dinner. Yup, I went three time during my stay. My coworker went 4x's. Went twice within a two week period while staying near the airport. The food menu is fairly expensive with many dishes that sound quite appetizing. Overall, I wasn't blown away by the food, but it was priced decently and still good. The pot roast sliders sounded much better than they were, but the burgers were decent. More importantly, the beer. All solid offerings. The bourbon barrel aged vanilla Stout was well done. It came in at 8.9% and was perfect for a cold evening. The Red IPA was decent, and the coffee brown ale was okay. Bottom Line: Nostalgic neighborhood setting, excellent range of "bar food" selections served with genuinely helpful service. Overview: For folks that enjoy older architecture, great food and micro-brewed beer, Ferguson Brewing is a destination, to be sure. After living in Saint Louis my entire life, I don't know that I had much of a reason to visit the area due to not knowing anyone in the area or anything about the area. When Ferguson Brewing was announced, I had a reason. Ferguson Brewing is housed in a trademark Saint Louis red brick building that has been well-preserved with a fairly spacious patio situated within the confines of the parking lot. An event space that can seat up to 125 people on the top floor is also available. As a side note, the business did have a fire which started in the kitchen. The business had been open only a month since repairs were made. For context for this review, our visit was on a Saturday around 11am. Atmosphere: The temperatures on my first visit were too low to be dining outside, so we had lunch in a booth near the brew kettles at the rear of the building. Being a fan of older architecture, I admit I was in heaven the entire time. Service: Service was top notch. Compliments go to both Kim S and Anita. They both were helpful and made our visit enjoyable. I felt like they were focused on us, genuine, and had answers to questions we asked. If they didn't have the answer, they made sure we got one. Food: Here are the selections we chose: Smoked Chicken Wings - Buffalo and Honey Teriyaki: These wings' meat fell off the bone. Smoked and not fried. Flavors were just right and not swimming in sauce. Blue cheese and ranch dips were offered. I cannot vouch for the ranch, but the blue cheese dip was excellent. Personally, I preferred the Buffalo, but Honey Teriyaki was nice, as well. Beer Cheese Soup: I am a big fan of this soup and was elated to find that they offered it. Wow! Something I have not encountered in beer cheese soup is chopped carrot and celery. It was a nice surprise. There were two pieces of toasted crostini floating in the soup with cheese melted on it. For the health conscious, I might suggest asking to leave the shredded cheese off. It is already unhealthy enough, I suspect. Along with chopped green onion, I experimented and grabbed some of my eating partner's in-house made potato chips off their plate. It served as a nice dipping sauce for the potato chips, and I also liked the extra crunch in the soup. Brisket Tacos: The menu description indicates BBQ brisket. The brisket served on our tacos was without sauce. Regardless, once we requested some sauce on the side, it made the tacos that much more enjoyable. I will say that we probably would not get these tacos again. The soft flour tortilla really did not work for us. Parking/Surrounding Area: Since we were here around the time they opened, we had no problem getting a parking spot. Parking is situated on their own lot. My memory is a bit cloudy on the size of the parking lot, but I believe that parking could be a problem as business picks up. As far as the surrounding area, I really encourage you to consider walking around to some of the nearby shops. There is a bicycle shop and what appears to be a tourist shop nearby. With Ferguson getting national attention, I imagine they get an influx of out of town guests. Summary: Both Ferguson and Ferguson Brewing are worthy of a visit, if you enjoy historic architecture, for sure. If you are just a fan of microbrews and good food, then you would still be well served to visit Ferguson Brewing. They are strong in both departments. The helpful staff really was icing on the cake for our visit. Bonus Tip: For root beer aficionados, they make their own called "Slick's", I believe. STL Brew Tour 2011 - second stop. What a pleasant surprise! Sidling up to the bar at 3:30 p.m. yesterday, the bartender Kim was uber friendly and helpful as we decided on the four beers (out of 15 they make at Hill/Ferguson Brewing Co) that we wanted to try in our sampler order. I opted for the Chocolate Stout (smooth and very drinkable), the Imperial Vanilla Bean Bourbon Porter (do I even need to describe out utterly decadent this one is?), The Belgian Wit (surprisingly refreshing), and finally the Pecan Brown Ale (my least fave - I just didn't get the nutty flavor, so it was a bit bland for me). Their dip trio is also a most excellent alcohol absorbent - though the hummus is SUPER spicy. I'm fairly certain there are some hot peppers hidden in there - so be forewarned. After ordering my beer sampler, I lamented the fact that I didn't get a chance to try the Pumpkin Ale, so Kim was nice enough to give me a small taste. And I'm so glad I did - five minutes later, I left with a half gallon growler of it (only $12.99, with $9.00 refills!). Even though I live in Chicago, I may have to ensure my next trip to STL includes a stop to fill up here at this Ferguson gem. read more

All hell is breaking loose outside, but inside you can't tell that anything is wrong. A friend of mine and I headed to Ferguson to gain first-hand knowledge on the issues that are going on there. But first we had to loosen up with some food & drink. We sat at the bar. There were 3 different people helping us. We tried one of their beer flights. Not all of the beers were good... one of them was way too thin... but I remember the chestnut beer being really good. We had wings too. They say they were smoked but they had the texture they were baked. Overall we had a fine experience here. I'd easily come back. I'm surprised how poised and focused the employees were in creating an upbeat restaurant experience while the apocalypse was taking place outside. FYI... Super disappointing. My boyfriend and I both got sick afterwards. I had the chicken tenders, mashed potatoes, and onion rings. The mashed potatoes were so over salted that I couldn't eat them at all. Onion rings were burnt. The only thing I ate was chicken tenders, which were good, but, again, I felt super sick later. My boyfriend had the brisket and pulled pork. Pulled pork was dry, brisket was just all right. He felt even worse than I did and ended up throwing away his leftovers because he was too scared to eat them and get sick again. read more

Let me just say, it's great to have an awesome, authentic brewery like this in North County. Having recently moved back to the Florissant area, I was a bit saddened that some of my favorite places (4 Hands, iTap, etc) are now 30-40 minutes away. However, now that I've discovered Ferguson Brewing, in the words of everyone's favorite Terminator and Jingle All the Way star, "I'LL BE BACK!" When I sat down at the bar, I felt right at home. My bartender was friendly and described to me some of the many different beers they have on tap. He gave me recommendations and even told me what subtle tastes to notice, such as the caramel and apple I had in my first IPA. The atmosphere was very relaxing inside, and I was notified of the night's specials right off the bat (buy one draft, get one free on Tuesday nights after 9!). If you enjoy dark beers, they also brew a great chocolate stout, which I enjoyed. You'll definitely want to check this place out. I didn't get to try much in terms of their food, as I only ordered a basket of oven baked chips, but I saw some piping hot pizzas pass me by on several occasions during my visit, along with some nice looking Bavarian pretzels. I work down the street from this brewery and visit quite frequently for lunch and happy hour. They always have a large selection of brews and about 3 seasonal/rotating beers all the time. They offer typical pub fare which is always great. If you become a fan of their brews and need to replenish the keg-erator back home, you can pickup most any beer the next day in a variety of sizes. Their keg stock varies so if you require a specific size barrel be sure to request it. The upstairs room is great for larger groups with private bar and bathrooms. I am a fan of the resurgence of local craft brewers in St. Louis. As a city we are beginning to provide competition for other craft beer cities like Portland Oregon. That said, I recently finally made the pilgrimage to Ferguson Brewing. I say Pilgrimage because I am a West County boy. First things first, parking was a premium at 5:30 on a Thursday. Id say this is generally a good sign of regular patronage. Luckily there is a free parking lot behind the restaurant's lot. Ferguson has a number of beers on tap. I was surprised by the number of standard beers on tap, nine, and the number of seasonal beers (6?). That is a lot of variety for a beer lover like me. I am used to the usual six beers on tap. Most of the beers I tried were legit and very flavorful. I did notice, and give props to Ferguson, that the bar uses spirits distilled in town by Square One Brewery and Distillery. There is also a chalk Board in house promoting other local businesses and establishments. I plan to return to Ferguson in the near future. read more
