I came here with some friends to enjoy Violet's pop-up bar! Parking is easy to find: there's street parking, or you can park inside Union Station. It was decorated beautifully for Valentine's Day. Service was exceptional, with all employees friendly and helpful. I ordered the Strawberry Short King, and yum! It tasted just like a strawberry milkshake and the garnishes were a cute addition. I also ordered the chicken sandwich and this is not something I would order again. The chicken was juicy and tender, but the balsamic glaze was overpowering. In my opinion, this would fit better as a salad option rather than a sandwich. However, the waffle fries were good! I will come again to visit the future pop-up bars, but I likely will not come here again for a casual meal. read more

A couple of gal pals and I came here tonight for some fun drinks and bites. The train shed is a bar/restaurant inside of the Union station. They have been known for their holiday pop up bar. This time around was their pop up called "violets" which was pretty floral arrangements all throughout the establishment. Our server David was very prompt and all of their wait staff would walk by other tables to make sure things were in order. They weren't playing around. We didn't have a wait, but we do advise to have someone from your party wait there earlier just in case. If you park in the lot connected to the Union station, the train shed can validate your parking tickets. Okay let's get down and dirty with the food and drinks. My first cocktail was prettier in person which had good mix of dark to light rum, ginger beer, açaí berry liquor and other mixes. To eat I ordered their country fried steak, comes with garlic mashed potatoes, and candied carrots ( huge carrot slices) more like halves. The mashed potatoes were my fave . I also started off with fried Mac n cheese. It comes with camp fire sauce for dipping. Those weren't too bad. Someone else ordered the pretzel balls with cheese, so yummy! To end the night I had the daily grinder martini. Nice little night cap. The menu prices are a little steep for my liking. It ranges from $14-30ish on certain items. It's great for dates and large groups! The restrooms are located out in the Union station next to the aquarium. Vs it being located within the restaurant. The Train Shed turned into the CUTEST Valentine's pop-up and I absolutely loved it! It was so girly, fun, and beautifully decorated hearts everywhere, perfect photo ops, and just the sweetest vibe overall. The atmosphere alone makes you want to grab your girls and celebrate love in all forms. It felt festive without being over-the-top, and the setup was clearly thoughtful and well done. And the food? So good! Everything was flavorful and came out fresh. It wasn't just cute for pictures it actually delivered on taste too. The food was great, and the waffle fries with the house-made honey mustard-style sauce are one of my favorite fry combinations. However, my first visit left a poor impression because the meal felt very rushed, and I did not feel fully welcomed to enjoy the experience at my own pace. Our server checked several times to see if we were finished and brought the check shortly after the food arrived. That said, the food runner was very kind and helpful, which improved the visit. This was my first time at the Train shed's Christmas pop-up bar and it was well worth the wait!! The first thing I noticed was, of course, they're beautifully ornate and elegant interior. They definitely nailed it on their Christmas decorations, because I was seriously impressed! I went with a friend on a Friday even and they were packed full and the wait time was about 45 minutes in the evening, but we found out from the barista that that the front tables where our first come first served and we didn't need a reservation for it, So me and my friend kept an eye out on the table and were able to get a good table before our reservation even started. But the only thing about the smaller tables is that it's only four drinks and appetizers, not for the main meals. The Christmas drinks were amazing and very festive! The nachos that I ordered were okay but not the greatest, the toppings were good but the nachos itself were a bit too greasy for my liking. read more

"The Sleigh Shed" - a Christmas holiday pop-up. Incredibly decorated and upon entering immediately filled my heart with all the holiday magic. Greeted by a very friendly host that seated us by the window so we could take in the whole restaurant as well as the outdoor decorations. I ordered the Home Style Dinner and was not disappointed. It was delicious and reminded me of Christmas dinner at my grandma's. It came with two big slices of juicy ham, fluffy and flavorful mashed potatoes, a fresh baked roll and perfectly cooked green beans. Oh - and our server - she was so sweet and filled with joy! This is a great place for an afternoon lunch with friends, a fun date night spot or just a fun place to grab a drink between holiday shopping spots. We checked out the Train Shed after a visit to the Polar Express train since we were hungry. We usually do the Soda Fountain but tried somewhere new and I'm glad we did. The ambiance and decorations were the highlight for sure. It is seasonally decked out as the Sleigh Shed and looks like a holiday pop-up! We had to wait a short amount of time before we were sat. The food was a little pricey and pretty good (but not something to write home to). My kids each ordered a kids chicken strips meal with fries, I ordered pretzel bites and beer cheese, while my husband ordered a turkey club with fries. It all was a little spicy - the fries, the chicken strips, the pretzel sauce which wasn't as great for my kids. My husband said his sandwich was good. The pretzels were okay - a little too spicy and they are kind of like a donut/pretzel instead of straight pretzel. The service was pretty good. We had to wait awhile for our pretzel bites and got them much later, after the rest of my family got their entrees (they were supposed to come out first) and my husband was halfway through his meal. I spent the afternoon at Union Station and decided to get dinner there too before heading back to my hotel. I really liked the ambiance of the Train Shed. It had the sports vibe at the bar, the family vibe at the tables, and the date vibe at the booths. My server, Tanisha, was so nice and so attentive. I ordered a toasted ravioli starter, because everyone kept telling me I needed to try the toasted ravioli in St. Louis, and the turkey club sandwich. The toasted ravioli was well toasted with a flavorful marinara sauce. Even as the dish cooled, the ravioli kept their crunch. I wanted a little more salt in the filling, but together with the marinara, it worked out, flavor wise. The sandwich was also a good pick for me. I was surprised that the bread wasn't toasted, though. Pretty much any club sandwich I have ever had came with a toasted bread, so it may have been my bad for assuming it would be served that way, but if I ever went back, I would ask for the bed to be toasted. I think it would add to the texture of the sammie. My favorite part of the sandwich, though, was the combination of the lemon aioli on the bottom and the avocado on the top. What a palate pleaser! And it was served with seasoned waffle fries. Can't go wrong with that! I also made the rookie mistake of walking out of my hotel without my wallet. After a moment of panic, I remembered that I have Apple Pay set up and asked Tanisha if I could use that. No problem, she said, and was able to charge me that way. The Train Shed, located at Union Station, transformed into The Sleigh Shed for the holidays. You can park in the Aquarium parking lot. My total visit was 2 hours, including a 50-minute waitlist for a table, so parking ended up being $9. I've been celebrating my birthday all month long, so I was looking forward to this experience. ​The hostess brought us to our table, which was literally dead center in the entrance of the restaurant near the front hostess stand. Our waitress was attentive despite the crowds of people there. She took our drink orders. I ordered the Freeze Navidad, which was basically like an elevated margarita with melon and pomegranate liqueur to create the Christmas colors and layers. The melon liqueur arrived in a cute ornament bottle to pour into the drink. ​As soon as I whipped my camera out to take a picture, an older man with heavy booze on his breath came up and asked if it was a real ornament and what kind of drink it was, while pointing very closely to my ornament with his finger dangerously close to the rim of my glass. I told him what drink it was and that it was a bottle of the liquid to pour in. I turned my body away from him, and he eventually slurred some words like, "Oh okay, that's cool," and walked away. ​We got our food order in; I ordered the Smash Burger and my friend ordered the Trio Flatbread. When my burger arrived, it looked good, but it was lacking in campfire sauce. I should have asked for more but sliced my burger in half to consume the other half at home where I could add more sauce. The fries were in abundance, and I took most of them home as well. I ordered a tuxedo cheesecake to go. It looked amazing! I haven't eaten it yet but know it will be good. ​I wanted a holiday picture of me with the restaurant decor behind me. So, I took off my coat that I had on the entire time (sitting by the entrance = breeze) and stood up to pose. Some older lady with a white coat on and red shoes, along with her daughter and probably sister standing at the bar, was staring uncomfortably at me and my friend the entire time. She was inching her way closer to our table despite us not being 100% done with our dining experience. She was staggering, too. ​As soon as we were done with pictures and grabbed our coats to put on, she came to our table and said, "Are you all done now so that we can have your table?" Another woman rushed up and asked the same thing but in a nice manner, saying the hostess said she could have our table after we were done. Now, in my decades of dining out, never has a host at a restaurant where seating required checking in said that it's a free-for-all for the next person once the diner is done and for them to seat themselves. We were SHOWN to our table by a hostess, so there was no good reason these two random women should have been in our face and space trying to sit at our dirty table we were barely done with. ​The lady with the red shoes was extremely unruly, drunk (she was slurring her words), rude, and entitled--especially when she decided to plop down in the chair and tell the other lady she was not moving. I do not understand why the hostess or anyone who worked there did not have any of these diners under control, and for that reason, I do not want to return. If patrons on the waitlist are able to have drinks at the bar, it needs to be made clear to them that they cannot just sit where a current diner just got up from when it is not their turn to be seated. We had been looking for a holiday pop-up for a double date and settled on the Sleigh Shed (at the Train Shed). Luckily we got to Union Station early because the waitlist was already at 2 hours when we got on it around 5 on a Friday (the online waitlist was not available). The place was decorated beautifully, and through the window we had a great view of the rest of Union Station. Our drinks and food came out extremely fast despite how busy they were. The holiday cocktails were a fun treat- if a bit pricey for the size of them. We really loved the Stuffed Tots and the white BBQ sauce that came with them. My bf enjoyed his flatbread- I wasn't blown away by the Smash Burger, it was a bit dry for my taste. Would love to come back for dinner on a less busy night to try out their other options. read more

I went to the Sleigh Shed for the holiday pop up bar and it is decorated so beautifully. Luckily we went on a Wednesday evening and there was no wait in the bar section. We sat at a table for quite some time and then eventually moved to the bar to get quicker service. The bartenders seemed overwhelmed/burnt out but it could just be since we went when the pop up opened for the first time again this year. I visited the Train Shed for their adorable popup bar for Valentines called Violets. I tried the Hot Pink Mess cocktail and enjoyed it immensely. It was a perfect balance of sweet, tart, and floral flavors. I also sampled my friend's cocktails, the Strawberry Short King and the Hollaback Girl. The Strawberry was basically a milkshake while the Hollaback Girl was stronger and richer due to the cognac. They were all delicious! The drinks were expensive, on the higher end than is typical for craft cocktails in the area. While I enjoyed my time at the Train Shed, I probably won't visit again outside of their unique seasonal popup bars. read more

The restaurant was nicely decorated as they were having the Violet's Valentines pop up. Our waitress was very nice and had great recommendations. We ordered the specialty cocktails from their pop up menu. Our waitress recommended the Hot Pink Mess and although I'm not typically a gin drinker, it was really good. I ordered two appetizers, the chicken wings and brussel sprouts. Although it was a very light crowd, service was extremely slow, so it took a while for us to get our food. The chicken wings were good. I couldn't tell they were dressed in honey buffalo sauce at all but I loved the sauce that accompanied it. I did not care for the brussel sprouts and that was surprising because I love crispy brussel sprouts. There was supposed to be a sauce on them. If there was, I couldn't tell. They also had no salt and were very bland. The others ordered the smash burger, roasted chicken, and the mac and cheese. Everyone in the group felt their meal was ok. It's a great family dining experience. I don't know if I'd take a date there. I took my 9-year-old daughter and she loved everything about the area. If you're looking for an intimate quiet location - this isn't it. But for a fun night out...this IS it. We did wait an hour and half to sit but they place you on a waiting list and text you when your table is ready but that's out of their control. There are no reservations taken at this place! In the wait time we played in the surrounding area. Plenty to keep you occupied but be ready to spend $$$. The area is obviously catered to tourist. The service was exceptional. Our server was fantastic. He had sooo many tables but I didn't even notice because he was friendly, hospitable, fast, and funny. The service is absolutely excellent here. We went with my son who's only four years old, and we did not expect the way to be so long right when they opened for lunch. However, we didn't mind waiting. My husband and I grabbed a drink at the bar and they were OK with us taking the drinks outside while we waited. Came to check out the pop up for Christmas sleigh shedd and the vibes are amazing. The rest was lackluster. Not a lot of seating tables are very close together and was an hour or 1.5 hour wait at 4pm on a Saturday. We had 5 so we just went to the bar areas cause it is seat yourself. Everything was 4 tops and there was people with empty seats on both sides, they said we could use a chair but the restaurant wouldn't let us move the seat around to face our table even though it was literally so close we wouldn't have had to do anything but twist it the other way, so instead one of us had to stand the whole time it was fine, we made it work and could understand if it was because they needed to walk in between but the table were so close they couldn't even do that. Just seemed a little silly when it had nothing to do with flow. We ordered the pretzel bites & hummus plate. Not a lot of hummus, hummus was smothered in oil and there was like very little pita breads and the rest was just veggies. The pretzel bites were good but the cheese was not flavorful. 16 dollar cocktails as well. Went to the Sleigh Shed again this year. It never disappoints. I had a really good grilled chicken sandwich and my friend had a flatbread. I drank a First Frost and it looked beautiful. It was really good but the star of our meal was the Peanut Butter and Jolly. That was the best!! The toasted marshmallow was a great touch. This place was so festive.
