I have been to the iconic Das Bevo several times for Maifest, Oktoberfest, Sunday brunch, Gin World and a trivia night. It is rich in history and a beautiful spot to visit. During the Fests, they have a lot of seating outdoors and available indoors as well. They have permanent bathrooms indoors and outdoors as well. They have a large parking lot and there is street parking nearby. The food is better than average. I really like their fish and chips plate. It's flavorful and served hot. There's usually live music events going on inside or outside of Das Bevo. The inside is huge and feels like you are hanging inside a castle. I went to the Speakeasy Friday to see Miss Jubilee. Tickets were $10, which you could buy online or at the door, and it was located in the cool, dimly lit basement. 90% of the tables were filled up in this venue. They did a good job with the décor to make it feel like the roaring 20's. They had a limited menu for food and drinks. The music was lovely, but hard to hear at times because people were trying to talk above it. Miss Jubilee was not spotlighted and sang in the shadows. My husband and I have both been to The Bevo Mill for different occasions in the past, however, this was the first time dining as Das Bevo. We absolutely loved it. The menu is so unique with German offerings. The building is so rich in history. With both of having German heritage it just feels good dining here. I ordered the fish and fries being a Friday in Lent. It was good, however, I wish I would have ordered a German dish. The creamy coleslaw was probably the best I've had. My husband ordered the Sauerbraten which is pot roast. It was served with spaetzle, red cabbage and veggie of the day which was green beans. He absolutely loved his meal. You order at the bar and server brings food to your table. They let us wander around the premises while we were waiting for our food. Climbed the stairs to the top (never been up there) and saw all the rooms that must have been private living quarters in the day. Looked out the windows where the mill was spinning by. Went to the basement where there is a bar and large room for entertaining. The outside patio looks amazing. We will be back. We went for $10 Supper Wednesday and this week it was Shnitzel! I hadn't been to Bevo Mill since I was a kid and while it's a lottle different now with ordering at the bar and sitting at community tables, the building is still just so unique and makes it feel like a special night out. The schnitzel was pretty good, not like FANTASTIC but for $10 it it a huge piece and comes with mashed potatoes. Formally Bevo Mill this restaurant is a great night out. Every Wednesday they have ten dollar suppers. We went on schnitzel night. Biggest schnitz I've ever seen. The regulars warned us that meatloaf night gets busy too. They have urban chestnut and four hands beer on tap. You order at the bar they give you a number and you go find a seat. Family style seating in what feels like a medieval tavern. Good food, good drink, and great ambiance. Das Bevo is such a fun venue. Driving down to their location off of Gravois, is such an epic experience. Upon approach, you are greeted by the iconic windmill in motion. My friends and I attended the buy one get one 'Martini Madness' event and had a splendid time. It's a spacious, open concept room when you walk in. Reminiscent of a German Bier Hall, there is plenty of seating, tables and standing room. Cozy couches placed near a roaring fire was a lovely setting for the chilly evening. Families with kids or a couples night out, all are welcome here. The cheap deal on drinks was great but they were tasty too! I tried the espresso martini, which is always a classic and my personal favorite. I also tried the red delicious apple martini which was on the sweeter side but a nice treat to finish out the girl's night. We shared some appetizers; the cheddar biscuits, Brussels sprouts, pretzel and sausage platter with sauerkraut and mustard and the fries with beer cheese. Everything tasted great but the Brussels sprouts were the star of the show with a honey and balsamic glaze which were slightly crispy. The last event I attended here was an adult Easter egg hunt! Das Bevo is such an interesting place with multiple floors to explore. The main entry floor has a very lovely set up and this Friday had a table side magician! Pretty casual establishment overall where you order food from the bar. The lower level, where I sat, is even more relaxed and had a live band playing. Really great way to enjoy dinner! Since my visit to Zaanse Schans a couple summer ago, going up into Bevo Mill has been on my list, and I finally got to it this past week. If you've never done it, add it to your bucket list--there's just something about being inside a windmill that makes the experience special. The building itself is stunning, with beautiful architecture and a cozy atmosphere, especially in the winter when they always have the fire going. The food is about as German as it gets. Beautiful venue in south city with friendly staff. It seems that they've moved more into private events, with limited menus on weeknights. The night I went, their special was a roast chicken dinner with potatoes and green beans for $12. For the price, I can't complain. We went on a Sunday especially bc of a Bloody Mary bar flyer. We live in the neighborhood and often walk here. the Outdoor Beirgarten is exactly what it needs to be and our kids like to play on the old fire truck. The staff are super friendly and kind to our elementary age kids. The ambiance is cozy and has character and you can meander through restored parts of the Mill house. The food is good and reasonably priced. We love the $8 cinnamon roll please dont change it. Thanks for bringing this iconic spot up to the status it deserves. We finally made it out to Das Bevo and we're not disappointed! It's even cuter in person than the pictures show. I had the quiche of the day which was onions, green peppers, and tomatoes. It was amazing! It came with a side salad that was so fresh and tasty. Then I tried a cinnamon roll. It's the absolute best one I've ever had! My friend had the breakfast sandwich with avocado and the cheddar potatoes and said they were both wonderful. The service was great and everyone was friendly. They had a band playing and they were perfect for brunch without being overwhelming or loud. I can't wait to go back when it's warmer and enjoy the patio. But a then young busser came to clear our table and then the owner scolded him while he was still at our table. The owner was very disrespectful to the young man. You shouldn't talk to your employees like that especially in front of customers. He was doing a fine job. And when the busser was confused on what he was doing wrong (we were too) The owner continued to scold him saying "don't look at me like that" It made my table uncomfortable to witness this microaggression. When asked if he was OK, the busser said he was used to it. I'm going to have to really consider if I want to come back to this establishment if that's how their employees are treated. I recently had a chance to visit Das Bevo for a "Breakfast at Tiffany's" movie showing and a themed movie menu of breakfast for dinner. I am glad they offered this because I probably would have never had a chance to try their food! The special menu has chicken and waffles on it so I had to try it! The liege waffles were crispy and sweet, and the fried chicken wings were fried to perfection. I also had a Tiffany cocktail in the beautiful blue shade and it was delicious too. Inside it's a European beer hall, with mahogany wood bar, and event space downstairs. History note: The Anheuser-Busch family commissioned the mosaic tiles in the far end dining room from the 1904 World's Fair. Beers are $6-7 and food is $13-20. Not cheap, but you are really paying for the atmosphere. I tried the German board - two sausages, kraut, spicy mustard, warm pretzel, and cheese sauce. The food of das bevo is amazing. There was a Beatles themed event today and the live performer sang well. The insanity was in the volume of the speaker. I understand you want people to hear your live performer, but it was like being at a night club. It was so loud me and my friends were screaming at each other to be able to hear anything. The waiter was making jokes about not being able to hear us. I eventually actually asked to turn the speaker volume down and that was ignored. My friend had her apple watch warn her there was excessive volume four different times. We would've left but we waited for the table for an hour already and the performer started after we got seated. Our ears were ringing when we left. I enjoy this level of volume at a concert, but at das bevo it was so absurd. I don't know if it's normally that loud when they have live performers, but I can't imagine anyone wants literal hearing damage from brunch.
