This place is a must-visit for anyone coming to Pullman, WA. The prices are ridiculously cheap while the taste is amazingly good. This place is run by the WSU food science department so the quality of ice cream is fantastic. Be aware of their hours as the place closes early. read more

Ferdinand's Ice Cream Shoppe - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Pullman, Washington

This is a great stop if you happen to be in the Pullman area during the week or on one if the weekend days that they are open. There are about 14 flavors of ice cream and they also sell 'Grabber' ice cream sandwiches. All of the flavors we have tried are really, really good. There is a certain freshness about the ice cream that you only find in specialty ice cream shops. You can also purchase the whole array of the Cougar cheese products and at a more favorable price than what you will ever see in Spokane. This was a very busy place today and the staff couldn't have been more efficient or friendly. They worked the line quickly while still offering samples of both cheese and ice cream. Since you can't buy the ice cream in Spokane I would think that you may even consider making a day trip to Pullman. It would definitely be worth it. read more

Ferdinand's Ice Cream Shoppe - Huckleberry Ice Cream - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Pullman, Washington

Anyone that goes to WSU or travels to Pullman knows that going to Ferdinand's is a must!!! When I went to school here, during summer I would walk to school and back and Ferdinand's was my stop twice a week. Their ice cream is so creamy and delicious. I've never tasted any ice cream close to theirs. So when I had to come back to Pullman for recruiting I had to stop here. I had the huckleberry ripple on a sugar cone. Just enough sweetness! Oh so good. I also bought two cans of cougar cheese because it's the best cheese ever! Of course I got the staple cougar gold and decided to give cougar fire a try too. A spicy version of cougar gold. Can't wait to make Mac and cheese with the cougar gold and some nice and spicy tuna melt with the fire one. read more

Ferdinand's Ice Cream Shoppe - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Pullman, Washington

Amazing Ice cream! This is some of the best I've cream ever. The biggest scoops and the least expensive.

Ice cream. Cougar Gold cheese and all the other flavors. I haven't tried the drinks but I hear they are also delicious. Can't go wrong here!

The happy staff provide large, inexpensive portions. The menu has a lot of variety, beyond ice cream. As I recall, everything tastes great. If the day is hot and you'll order a cone, then plan to eat outdoors or get a bowl. The extremely large scoops may be difficult for a person to manage in a car, on a cone. The outdoor seating area and park lot are wise alternatives to redecorating an interior. Be smarter than I am, mind the schedule of open hours. I arrive at random intervals and the shoppe is open perhaps half the time. Parking is a puzzle. The CoViD protocols did not inspire confidence. read more

What a great place. Homemade ice cream and cheese! Made on the WSU campus it's a delight. There is always a line but it moves fast. They sell their signature "Cougar Cheese" which comes in a large can oddly enough. The cheese is local only and a well guarded strain that has a pleasant unwieldy taste. The ice cream is smooth and they have about 20 flavors and make excellent shakes. It's a cool place to stop and bring home some cheese. Highly recommended. read more

Fabulous and ohhhh soooo yummy. Big scoops for reasonable price. Highly recommend!!!!!

Really creamy and thick ice cream. Feeling so satisfied after getting a bowl. Their cheese is also famous. Definitely the best local store to shop dairy products: read more

I am a huge fan of Ice cream, and Ferdinand's ice cream is definitely a place for fellow ice cream lovers to visit. My favorite flavor is definitely Apple Cup Crisp, with the sweet caramel, the spice of cinnamon, and sometimes the little bits of apple that are hidden inside every scoop. They also sell official WSU cougar cheese (no it is not from cougar milk) but it might be a little too expensive for some people. They are closed on weekends so it is hard to bring family and friends who are visiting for the weekend to Ferdinand's to try the ice cream. If they opened for certain weekends like during home football game weekends that would be good. This is the place to treat yourself when you have finished a stressful exam after school and just feel happy. read more

It was good ice cream and good cheese... but to be honest , in the years since that cheese was invented, during the last Wold Wars.. other ice cream shops in this century give ya a wooden spoon to try the ice cream out.. when I asked for a sample before my purchase ... it felt like the staff had just been dissed or something.. I thought colleges where about being progressive in the times. Not this ice cream stand. read more

Amazing ice cream and other dairy products! I personally love their hot pepper and original sharp cheddar. Their sharp cheddar is okay too ros famous and rightfully so. Side note, buying their cheese from the main store is tons cheaper than buying it elsewhere! read more

This place has great stuff. Excellent ice cream both in taste and variety. Prices are lower than other ice cream shops like Cold Stone etc. And Ferdinand's is way better. Just don't try and go within 3 hours of a football game. read more

Ferdinand's Ice Cream Shoppe - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Pullman, Washington

Pullman is the original Cougar Town and Ferdinand's Ice Cream Shoppe is WSU's legendary source of Cougar Cheese and Cougar Cream. I'm not sure if you had me at cheese, cream, or cougar, but, I'm proud to say I love you Ferdinand's. ** Cougar Cream ** The milk comes from the University's own dairy farm while the flavors are a blend of old-fashioned favorites and funky custom fun. It may be debatable if this is the best ice cream on the planet, but there's no dispute that this is the best ice cream in Cougar Town. I tried four junior scoops for lunch ... not dessert ... lunch! ... for the best mid-day meal ever ... * Cougar Tracks Vanilla Ice Cream with swirls of Fudge and Peanut Butter Cups * Chocolate Peanut Butter Chocolate Ice cream with swirls of Peanut Butter * Huckleberry Ripple Huckleberry Ice Cream with a Huckleberry Swirl * Award-wining 'Apple Cup' Crisp Vanilla Ice Cream with Apple, Caramel, Oatmeal Cookies and Spices ** Cougar Cheese ** This is an even bigger reason to visit the Ferdinand's Shoppe. Sure, you can buy cans of the award-winning cheese at the bookstore, markets, or online, but it's cheaper here. In fact, the broadest selection and best prices on WSU's award-winning cheese are found here and only here. I bought three cans to lug home. * Cougar Gold ($20) - This is the one that made this all famous * 2-year aged Cougar Gold ($25) - Same as above, but aged twice as long * Crimson Fire - Spicy and lower fat ... a win-win for cheese lovers Did you know that cheese purchases supports student employees of Washington State University and provides educational support for Food Science students? Well, you do now. Keep Calm and Cougar On read more

I was visiting some pals in Clarkston, WA when one of them made a joking comment about some appetizers that were laid out at a social event "The cheese is good, but, I mean, it's no Cougar Gold!" I didn't understand that reference at all, and was then told that Washington State University has been making cheese for 1,000s of years (cite needed) and that in my pal's opinion they had absolutely perfected cheddar cheese in a proprietary recipe they called Cougar Gold. I'm certainly no fromagier but I enjoy nachos the much as the next man, so I was intrigued. Then my pal told me they sell the cheese in wheels, which are aged inside of cans. Unique enough that I decided we needed to make the trek. I think the cheese lives up to the hype. The are a lot of varieties to sample and the shop that sells it is a creamery that also makes their own ice cream. You really can't go wrong. That being said, at $22 for a can of cheese it is on the pricey side. The reason I give this establishment 4 stars instead of 5 is because the layout is bad. There are two separate counters for cheese and ice cream and when there is a bit of a line for ice cream it blocks off the cheese counter. read more

Ferdinand's Ice Cream Shoppe - Strawberry cone and a can of cougar gold. - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Pullman, Washington

As I sit here with the remnants of a small bit of a 1/4 lb of Cougar Gold cheese I regret not buying more to take home. I was at WSU for a work related school. One of the WSU staff really encouraged us to check out the creamery and being a dedicated Yelper I checked it out and saw all of the good reviews. So I had someone drop me off knowing I would walk all the way across campus. This prevented me from overspending on cans of cheese. Yes I said cans of cheese. And no, this is NOT cheese wiz, this is the best cheese. Nice strong flavors and richness. I tried a few different flavors but the Cougar Gold is the best. So I picked up a snack and a quarter then moved to the ice cream phase of the Ferdinand's experience. I really didn't need the sugar so I asked if I could get two junior scoops and they were fine with that. I ordered the cougar tracks and %$&!@!!!. Oh wait...that flavor was $%^&#!! If I was one to cuss this would be where I would drop an F bomb. The Huckleberry ripple was hands down the BEST ice cream I have ever had in my 43 years existence. Nothing even comes close to comparing. It was smooth and perfectly heavy and light at the same time. Not too rich or too light. Perfections in my not so humble opinion. The service was cool. You could tell the students are involved more than your average ice cream scooper. They had a passion that made it pleasant just hearing them talk about the products that they probably make themselves (with the cows help of course). Parking here "sucks" but actually is good because it seemed to be available. Just know it's paid parking meters so bring some change and don't skimp, the lines inside can be long. If you are going to be in Pullman or Moscow, make a special trip to go here. I promise you wont be disappointed. read more

Easy and quick service, simply delectable ice cream made in the same building. Nice selection of ice cream, I personally ordered the chocolate cookie dough. We also purchased some cheese, but have yet to crack it open. It must be delicious though! Thanks Ferdinand's! read more

Located inside Washington State University, the ice cream parlor has a variety of flavors. I ordered pumpkin spice and huckleberry. The ice cream is really cheap! The pumpkin spice was on sale since it was in season. I only spent $3 for two scoops. They gave you ALOT of ice cream per scoop. So much that I wasn't even able to finish it. I think it was also because the huckleberry flavor was a little too sweet for me. Part of my heart died when I had to throw my ice cream away. I highly recommend this place for anyone in the area. But unless you are Pac Man, I would only order one scoop lol. read more

Ferdinand's Ice Cream Shoppe - Pumpkin spice (orange) and huckleberry (purple). Lots of ice cream per scoop. - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Pullman, Washington

This is the place to go for ice cream and Cougar Cheese. Ferdinand's has great ice cream. I have enjoyed all of the flavors I have tried, from the basic ones to the more complicated ones. They sell Cougar Cheeses at the lowest prices. A can of cheese costs $18 here, but costs over $20 elsewhere in the area. The special aged Cougar Gold costs more, and there are underweight cans and cooking cheese that cost less. There are two reasons I'm not giving them five stars: 1. Their operating hours are less than convenient. They close early and are only open on weekends when there is a home football game. 2. Their milkshakes and malts are made with a special milkshake base rather than their regular ice cream. The base is either unflavored or vanilla flavored, I'm not sure. This leads to chocolate milkshakes or malts made with chocolate syrup for flavoring. (I've seen places where they do this and it works. Sadly this is not one of them.) The chocolate malt I ordered tasted so bad I had to throw it out after making a valiant effort to convince myself it tasted ok. It really didn't. Perhaps the fruit flavors are better, but avoid the chocolate flavor. When I asked about it they said the ice cream's butter fat content was too high to blend. I've seen places that can blend ice cream with just as much butter fat as theirs. They need better blenders, better staff training, or both. read more

Really doesn't get any better than this place! If you don't like Ferdinand's then you are not human. The Cougar Gold cheese is a gift from the GODS! And I love just about every flavor of their ice cream. Today the boyfriend and I just got a couple of grabber's. What's that you ask? If you don't know what it is, it's a piece of heaven. It's there own homemade oatmeal cookie with their ice cream inside. I had the seasonal flavor of Pumpkin. I seriously thought about getting some dry ice and bringing them home with me. MAN OH MAN! TIP: a lot of places on campus sell the cougar gold wheels which are pretty big, and average about $20-$28. I am pretty sure they are the cheapest at Ferdinand's BUT you can also just purchase some cheese by a 1/4 wedge which is great if you are thinking....what am I going to do with all that cheese? Well they also have a scrumptious cook book by the check stand BUT we opted to just get 2 wedges and that way we can get different kinds. Also would make great gifts. My favorite Cougar Gold cheese is the Smokey Cheddar for sure! I really can't say enough good things about good old ferdinand's. BEWARE: It gets packed on big weekends! OH don't forget to read the story when you are there too :) read more

I'm very sorry to give such a low rating to this business here is Pullman. The quality is good but the problem is if you buy them milk, they don't measure it well. THE MANAGER says what they give you is actually an estimation not really N gallons that you asked and PAID FOR IT! it's such a bummer and worse than that is how he reacts when you genuinely give him feedback about their inaccurate measuring system. It's absolutely not acceptable! I even hear they got comments from CONOR school at WSU and the manager still don't care. I hope they have a better managing system or change the person in charge. Can do a lot better... read more

love ferdinands! it's a staple of wsu for sure! their ice creams, cheeses, merch, and more are famous on campus! however, the parking is terrible. many students ride the shuttle or the bus to ferdinands, but many people also drive. ferdinands is in a prime area and is surrounded by green lots that require a permit, which is frustrating when my parents want to go while they are in town, or if my friends and i want to stop on our way from moscow, where we drove to. also, the hours are frustrating. they close early and are closed on weekends, which makes it hard to get there and work around classes before they close. it just seems like more student employees would have availability on saturdays and significantly more customers would be able to come in on a saturday, or even past 4 or 5 pm. who am i to say though? i love ferdinands i just wish it was more accessible! read more
