The number of hungover mornings I have spent here getting food into my system is insane, lol! I love this place! It is tiny and cramped, but they have some great crepes! I have had a one off bad experience here with my crepe being full of canned spinach and all, but 95% of the time, this place has delivered! I love their savory and sweet crepes alike. I mean when you slather something with nutella, how can it not be good, really? I am a big fan of their breakfast crepes - anything with eggs, tomato and cheese will make me a happy bits. Service is usually friendly and the coffee is strong. The one thing I dislike about this place is that they are never particular about the order of our food. It would be nice to have our savory crepes before we started on the sweet ones (which is what I always try to make clear to them when I order). But inevitably, my sweet crepe shows up before the savory one! All in all, great local place to support and have brunch at rather frequently, especially if you are nursing a Sunday Morning hangover, lol! read more

However, it was: *unclean-- i had to ask for napkins to cover the dirty table so i could put my plate on something other than someone else's crumbs. (Out of the 5 then-available 2 top tables, all 5 were unclean) My silverware was also unclean. When i went to ask to get clean silverware, the woman taking orders misunderstood me and showed a flash of anger, most likely thinking i had given her silverware that *i* had soiled. Rather, i was trying to get clean silverware to use, but as i tried to explain, it went downhill. (I had not been there for very long, so i would have been inpossible to have already eaten and soiled my silverware). Fortunately, i was able to point and get what i needed. *overpriced for the quantity within the crepe and the quality of the ingredients. ** unfriendly and unwelcoming Here's the thing....if this place wants to have a diner/fast food feel, fine. Once the employee came to the counter I wasn't sure if it was okay to order or not because she didn't say hello. So I said hello, no response. I just went ahead and ordered because I knew I wasn't going to be asked what I would like. I felt as if I interrupted the entire work flow. Not for the faint of heart. * savory--Fenton brunch: fried egg, tomatoes, mushroom, cheese, turkey and (minus avocado that usually comes with it.) a lot more crepe than stuffing, it wasn't evenly distributed. Bland, there wasn't any seasoning added during the cooking process (at least salt and pepper would have done it.) * sweet--bombdotcom. An even spread of Nutella, FRESH hand cut fruit. No complaints! Eat it hot though cause it gets more chewy as it gets cold. The service itself was lackluster. Not very warm and inviting. Please note if you are concerned with cross contamination, this isn't the place for you. The same gloves were worn throughout the ENTIRE process and there wasn't a new spoon to scoop the Nutella. You could see remnants of the previous scooping and they didn't bother to rinse it off the least bit. She even stopped to hold a stool for her coworker getting up on a ledge with the same glove she was cooking with and continued forth. Sanitation isn't really the top priority here. Fenton Cafe is a great place for an easy breakfast, be it savory or sweet! They have a ton of sweet crepe combinations, as well as savory crepe recipes. I ordered the apple crepes, and not being much of a sweet tooth, I was surprised at the mild sweetness. I liked it a lot. The place is small and cozy, with warm lighting. I was really looking forward trying this spot for the first time due to the positive reviews I've seen ... but I was disappointed. To make a long story short communication seems to be an issue as there was a small language barrier while placing my order. I ordered the grilled chicken crepe and added spinach which was an additional $1 (cashier didn't mention this but I saw it on the receipt). Only to receive my crepe with no spinach. Of course I did not see this until I got back to my car to check it by cutting into it. the taste flavor was literally just okay, so I ended up returning it and asking for a refund since I was running late for work and refused to waste $12 for something that wasn't correct. Let me start by saying that I have a gluten allergy. I am allergic to it, and I do not eliminate gluten from my diet by choice. So if you aren't gluten intolerant this review won't pertain to you as much. I came to this place because they have very clearly advertised "gluten free, better than regular" crepes. I was excited and they had a lot of really great looking options. I saw at the bottom of the menu they had displayed that gluten free crepes were $10.00 + toppings. I took this to mean that they cost $10.00 each. The rest of the crepes were around $5.00 to $8.00. Usually gluten free items cost a little more, so I didn't think much of it, other than the fact that it was a little high. When I began to order, the cashier attendant informed me that the price was actually $10.00 in addition to the menu price, plus toppings. I understand that gluten free flours can be a bit pricier than wheat flour. However, being a frequent user and buyer of pre-made gluten free flours, and making my own from scratch, I can honestly say that the price difference here is simply egregious and unnecessary. As I said before, many places will charge anywhere from $1.00-$3.00 extra for gluten free items or modifications to menu items to make them gluten free..... But an extra $10.00?? That's means that I am paying $16.00-$20.00 for a crepe that someone without an allergy would only have to pay $6.00-$9.00. I decided not to purchase a crepe so it may have been delicious, but it wasn't worth it for me at the time. But also, my friend who came with me - who is the opposite of me, he can and will eat anything and everything - ordered a berry smoothie. We left the store and after walking about a block, he expressed that he didn't like the smoothie. So much so, that after walking a few more blocks he was about to throw it away. He decided instead to go back and ask for another one. After the second attendant, who seemed to be in a managerial position, tried to tell him that it was supposed to taste like that because it was "berry" and he stated that it simply was not good, they added some more to it, and more sugar and returned it to him. It was a disappointment. 1) the bakeries (croissant and muffins) were from Costco and they didn't even bother to take them out of the packaging before putting them in the little display refrigerator. 2) I got cafe mocha and it tastes like hot chocolate. Nothing like cafe mocha at all. 3) they only have 2 crepe toasters/makers and it's so slow. Only 1 person cooking. 4) there is this older man who collects the dirty plates from tables and he tends to stack the plates and throw the utensils on the table in front of you which is kind of uncomfortable and loud. 5) their bathrooms are DISGUSTING. seemed like they haven't been cleaned for days. And of course no changing tables. 6) only 3 tables for outside seating which isn't nearly enough for the amount of traffic they attract. 7) service is horrible. I should just say there is no customer service. All the staff is running around trying to catch up with the crowd and they're not experienced with customer service. 8) overall, I wouldn't be coming back here at all. I have never eaten an establishment and felt the need to write a review just a few hours after I have finished the meal..... until now. I went into the Fenton Cafe more as a curiosity motivated visual exploration than to partake in a sampling, but as soon as I grabbed a menu, my daughter asked me if we could eat there, so why not? The first thing that I should mention is that you will not be able to see this place from driving along the road. It is wedged in between a comic book store and other various retail stores that share the same large, red colored building. There is only a tiny sign that reads - Fenton Cafe, that gives a hint of its existence amid the sea of retail red. Even when walking along the sidewalk, it would still be easy to pass by it without notice if one wasn't being diligent in keeping ones awareness fully alert. Then you walk inside the cafe..... and it is diminutive. Ummmm, more like tiny. You wonder how can a place so small even find room to make 47 different kinds of crêpes. That's right. I wrote crêpes, just like a fancy Frenchman and that's how the Fenton Cafe writes crêpes. Needless to say, I think the owners of this establishment take their crêpes very seriously. Judging from all the Europop music playing on the stereo, I am also going to take a guess that the owner is originally from somewhere upon the continent of Western Europe. Back to the crêpes. There are 31 crêpes sucrées (that would be 'sweet' breakfast types of crêpes) from which to choose. In addition to that, there are 16 crêpes salées (that would be 'savory' sandwich types of crêpes) from which to choose. Here is the thing that put this place over the general blandishments in my review. We ordered fresh apples, brown sugar, & cinnamon crêpe sucrée and the grilled chicken with cheese, tomato, & pesto sauce crêpe salée. When the orders first came out the apple crêpe was prepared, but the manager mentioned something about the pesto sauce not being available, so he served me a very fine salad on the house for my order not being ready. Then after a few minutes, he brought me my chicken order and it was delicious. The salad was a nice gesture in and of itself, but then he brought out another crêpe, stating that my daughter's order was too dry and that this one was properly prepared. Upon comparing the two dishes, he was correct, but there was little to no way that I would have ever have known that, if he had not brought out the other crêpe. I don't know if it was because they were very slow this evening or if he really takes that much pride in his crêpes, but I have never received such genuinely warm and generous service from any restaurant in my lifetime. Needless to say, I look forward to coming back and trying the other 45 crêpes the Fenton Cafe has to offer. One last note - they serve Illy coffee exclusively. OMG #Heaven- that was heaven. I got an Iced Tea while I was there. It was good, nothing really special. But the service was amazing - which totally bumped back up my star rating. They were all very nice. There credit card machine was having issues, so I had to run next door to Exxon to pull out money, but they started making my order anyways while I was pulling out money. They didn't want to make me wait until I paid. That's just a small thing that went so far. Especially because I was at a business meeting- and it was already awkward running next door for cash. Half of me was like... does this person think my card was declined... that'd be embarrassing. Does this person think my card was declined and then I just went and robbed the gas station?! The nephew (actually great nephew) of the owner brought our crepes to us outside at the one table they have. They serve their crepes on ceramic plates, not paper, and no plastic utensils either! We ordered the blueberry nutella and got blackberry instead, no biggie - they are close enough :) The crepe is a good portion to share if you are not super hungry and this particular one, the flavors are very good together. The menu is on the wall, with a sweet side and a savory side. After my bf and I NOMed our crepe down, the owner treated us to a chestnut spread and strawberry crepe with a heart shaped strawberry on top - too cute! My bf liked the second one better but I prefer tartness with my sweet mixings in the first one. My personal favorites are the Fenton Brunch Special, Mr. G Special, and anything with Nutella. The crepes themselves are subtly sweet and light and are always made to order, so you know they're fresh! The ingredients used to stuff all the crepes always taste fresh and are given in a generous amount! He's more of a big chain restaurant person than a Mom & Pop person, so he approached the outing with some trepidation. I loved the Nutella and banana crepe I had here! It was filled just right: not stingy neither bursting out of the crepe. At about $6 or so for the crepe, it was worth it! The cappuccino was also decent. Burnt my tongue even after repeated blowing on the top; it was definitely hotter than my usual Starbucks. The place is very small. I went in around 1:30 pm on a Sunday (today) when there were 7-8 other people there and the place felt near full capacity. The servers are sweet, smiling and helpful. I love this place!! We live in SS, eat/shop in the downtown area often and can't believe we didn't discover this place until 3-4 months ago! We just happened to notice it one day as we were walking past and thought we'd give it a shot... Anyway, the crepes are delish!! Ever since we discovered it, we've gone there every week or two! I've tried several of their savory crepes. They're all nice but my fav is the Cheese, Avocado & Tomato (and I typically add chicken to it for an extra charge). My bf LOVES their Grilled Chicken w/o Cheese, Tomato & Pesto Sauce (and he adds avocado for an extra charge). I love it too - but never get it since I can steal from his plate! ;-) And then we typically get one of the sweet crepes and split it as dessert It's a family owned business and the mom & her two daughters are almost always there. They're Ethiopian, I believe. Very nice & friendly. Service is pretty good. My favorite part is their sweet crepes! I've tried several of them but the Nutella ones are delish! And based off the Yelp reviews, went with the spinach and feta one. It was definitely yummy. The crepe itself was perfectly done. And I do mean absolutely perfect. One of the best made crepes I've ever had. The inside stuff was ok, but I wasn't blown away. Tasty, but really nothing exceptional. And the inside stuff was honestly on the skimpy side. But it was tasty enough and the crepe was such perfection that I didn't mind have lots of just crepe and little stuffing to eat. This spot is definitely nothing fancy. But it gets the job done. No wifi - no couches. That's the only bad thing I can say about this place. So so happy to find a coffee shop serving Illy espresso so close to my new home!! Bright, clean atmosphere with vivid yellow walls, a seating bar facing Fenton. They've recently added a respectable table and chairs on the sidewalk in front for the voyeurish-crepe-eater. Very friendly (new establishment) service. Meters right in front. Impressive sweet and savory crepe menu. ...blackberries and nutella?? Mmmmmm. The #12 (spinach, sundried tomato, carmelized onion and herbal feta) is slap-somebody good. All in all, a wonderful addition to Silver Spring!! read more

I had a great experience getting brunch here this morning. I got the Fenton Brunch Special and it was delicious. My friend and I also shared a nutella banana crepe and that was just as great. I think what really topped it off for me was how wonderful the service was. The ladies who served us were quite nice and thoughtful. We had received our savory crepes first and thought that maybe our nutella banana one was forgotten about. But as we finished our savory crepes, our server came by to clear our plates and gave us our nutella banana crepe. My friend and I definitely appreciated that. We had came around noon and waited about 10 minutes until we received our first crepes. The place is small, but cozy and we could watch our crepes being made.
