Really like this spot! I wouldn't call them authentic crepes, they are definitely thicker than a proper crepe, but then is any crepe you get on the street in the 5ème authentic? Nope. These are filling and tasty. I usually opt for the sauteed spinach savory and something with bananas for the sweet. Kids love this place too! Bring the whole family. I am head over heals in love. I didn't realize that the neighborhood was missing a crepe shop until today. I stopped here with some neighbors after a trip to the farmer's market. The savory crepe #2, turkey, cheese, avocado, and an egg served on field greens, was awesome. My friends ordered different varieties of fruit and nutella crepes and ended up in a sugar coma. We decided that next time we'd order two savory and one sweet and share. The place is tiny. Luckily a nice guy sitting at a four top invited the three of us to sit with him (after I asked). I'm actually apprehensive to write this because the place can't handle more business than it had for lunch today. They still have a few kinks to work out. My friends and I were looking for a late breakfast place with gluten and vegetarian friendly options. We were all thrilled to see the prices and pleased that we could all find something to eat there. I'm writing this review because of Fenton Cafe's false advertising - I don't want anyone else to make the same mistake we did. The awning sign that says "All Organic and Gluten Free Crepes" is false. When I attempted to verify with the cashier what menu items were gluten-free she said NONE. We selected this restaurant because of their supposed gluten-free options, but there are none. I'm not sure why the sign advertises "Gluten Free Crepes". I was very disappointed to have no options other than beverages. Wish we chose another restaurant for our Saturday breakfast excursion. The service was sub-par, it took them 4 times to get our entire order (for 4 people, drinks and food) correct. read more

I went to this place for the first time yesterday, after driving past it many times and telling myself that one day I'd check it out. When I arrived I saw it was pretty small inside, but it had a nice local, cosy vibe. I was informed their credit card machine was down so I'd have to pay in cash--strike one. Luckily it was a rare occasion where I had cash so I decided I'd still give it a try. I ordered a grilled chicken savory wrap, only to be told that they were out of the grilled chicken--I was getting pretty annoyed at this point! But I was hungry and I decided to still give it a try; I ordered a cheese, tomato, and avocado savory wrap and a butter and sugar sweet wrap. I didn't expect to like it. I expected to be annoyed again, since the first two inconveniences. But I had an AMAZING time here because the food I did get was SO. DAMN. TASTY. I couldn't believe how delicious it was! Soft, moist crepes, fresh tomatoes and avocado, yummy cheese. It was exactly what I wanted; maybe I wouldn't have liked the grilled chicken as much and this was Providence, who knows? But I had no regrets. The staff waited until I was mostly through with my savory wrap until they made and brought out the sweet one. I was almost annoyed thinking they'd forgotten, but they hadn't: they were being considerate!! I was SOOO happy! And that butter and sugar crepe--MMM! I ordered it thinking it would have a butter pat and a dash of powdered sugar, but these folks aren't messing around. I have to admit something to you, yelp. I have had a strange fascination with crepes, since I was 12. I've been saving for years to take a trip to France, just so I can hit the streets and enjoy the many crepes they have to offer. In the 10th grade, I practiced for hours, trying to make the perfect crepe just to devour it. I have gone to this establishment several times, and I'm never really sure about what to say. The people who make the crepes are really nice, but when business picks up, it can really slow. I wondered how a restaurant that specializes in crepes would work with 2 machines. (That's how many street vendors have). When I go there when they are super busy, the crepes are great, but suuuuper slow. I ordered 2 crepes an waited about 30 minutes. Way too long! Whoa baby! I am a loyalist to Market Crepes, the stand set up at the E. Market on Weekends and had low expectations coming here. They were blown away! The reason mainly was the crepe itself. It was extremely doughy and delicious unlike Market Crepes (sorry, Creper). I got the #6: Egg, Cheese & Spinach. I'd get it again, and again. Only thing I wasn't a big fan of was their coffee. Fenton Cafe is a small neighborhood crepe shop with very limited indoor AND outdoor seating. This was our second visit, and the first time was in the summer, and we did sit outside even though it's not exactly a great al fresco dining with cars going by constantly. We had three different crepes this time: tomato, mushroom, and cheese crepe; ham, egg, and cheese; and the nutella and banana crepe. I did not like the mushroom crepe because the mushrooms were cold, and came from the can. It was not like my expectations were that high as I did not expect shittake mushrooms, but at the very least the fresh white ones. The cheese in this crepe was so insignificant that I kept checking to see if they had forgotten to include cheese in my crepe. The other savory crepe was much better than mine. At the very least, the crepe was warm. The sweet crepe was much better! In a nutshell, this was an average crepe place. The ambiance is not particularly nice, and do skip the restroom! The staff is friendly enough and the price is decent. If you have a strong craving for crepes, this will do. I do prefer the Point Chaud in downtown DC, or even the Crepes A-Go-Go in Gaithersburg. I always find the crepes to be so tasty and delicious but the customer service is just weird. This time I asked for them to add scrambled egg to my crepe and they said they only had fried egg...... not sure about that response. I can just chop an egg myself... i ordered to go. Another customer ordered my same crepe and they forgot to put the tomatoes and caramelized onion. There's only 4 ingredients in the crepe... at that point they just added it in like saying there, happy now? And they proceeded to laugh and speak in their language. My order took over 40 min. Delicious. The food is definitely 5 star all the way. In fact, if it weren't for reading the reviews here, I would not have given this place a chance. The Chicken Tomato Pesto and Cheese Crepe is what I INHALED on Thursday, January 26. (It was my birthday lunch. No, I didn't tell anyone there b/c I didn't want special treatment!!) Light and filling all at once. In fact, I ate at around 1:30 PM and was full for the rest of the day. Amazing, since I have a huge appetite!! I heard about this place through word of mouth and couldn't wait to try it. I love going to cute, locally owned breakfast spots on the weekends, but they are usually packed and I hate waiting for breakfast. Surprisingly, this place only had a few patrons around 10 am on a Sunday morning. Good thing too, because it's super small! Anyway, on to the food! I got the turkey, swiss, and spinach crepe and the nutella and banana crepe for "dessert". Both were so delicious. I'm no crepe expert, but they were slightly crispy, slightly doughy, and slightly sweet. Loved them both! The women who were working there were also very friendly. At first glance this place does not nearly appear to be the gem it really is. Its small, and name isn't catchy, but this place is probably my favorite crepe place of ALL TIME. I have probably now tried over half of the menu, both the sweet and savory side, and everything is delicious. The woman who makes the crepes deserves an award. Sometimes i can be a picky eater, but whatever she throws in a crepe is like gold. I took off one star only because the seating is not the greatest, and i tend to like to sit and eat and maybe read. Also, because no matter what time of year i was there (from 90 degree summer to 20 degree winter) it was also a pretty hot in there. Came here with my boyfriend to enjoy some salees. The place is a bit cramped but we found a pair of stools by the window, browsed through some magazines, and waited for our salees to be prepared. I tried the spinach, feta, onions with chicken -- it was pretty good. My boyfriend tried the pesto chicken which was also good. The service is a bit slow but that's because the kitchen is small. It's also not a big deal since it seems to be designed like a cafe for people to talk, read, etc. Would suggest putting more tables outside for less cramped seating arrangements. I've been here three times in the past two weeks.... that should tell you something.... it's great! I've tried the Blueberry and Sour Cream, the Brunch Crepe (#2 on the savory list --tomato, mushroom, turkey, cheese, avocado), and Tomato, Cheese, and Avocado crepe. I've also snagged a piece of the Princess Crepe (almond powder, bananas, and nutella, with whipped cream garnish). All flavors were spectacular, but the best part is the actual crepe itself. It's so soft, sweet, and delicious. I've had other crepes in the DC area, and some are thicker and crispier... but I really like the light, fluffy, sweet flavor of Fenton Cafe's. The staff are so nice, friendly, and welcoming. The space is small, but we've always found a seat, and it's just a nice place to go to when you're not don't have a ton of time for a full sit-down meal, but want something substantial to eat. The atmosphere - especially outside seating - is quaint and the staff is great. I really believe it important to support small independent businesses like Fenton Cafe. That said, this morning I walked into their shop to simply get a cup of coffee to go. It was 8:10 am, ten minutes after they opened. I REALLY needed my morning coffee because I knew I would not have time to get it in Penn Quarter in DC before my 9:00 am staff meeting. No coffee. They had not even started to brew it yet. "Ten minutes!" the owner says. My response, "I don't have ten minutes!" and out the door I went. Perfect crepes! Everything I've had has been extraordinary. As with most crepe places there are tons of options, sweet or savory, so go nuts. The sweet ones are not overwhelmingly so, and the savory ones have lots of filling but again not too much. My favorite is the cheese, tomato, and avocado, which I am convinced also has magic as an ingredient. The hot chocolate is also excellent. I thought the coffee was merely okay, but I haven't had an espresso based drink yet, which may be better. The prices are mostly right on target, but watch out for the berry ones, which can get pricey. They don't skimp so it's not exactly a bad deal but beware that it can raise the price by several dollars per crepe. For the sweet ones, I think adding cinnamon (+50 cents) makes for inexpensive yet interesting variety. The space is a little cramped but don't let that dissuade you. I've only been on Sunday mornings but it has never been too busy nor empty. The staff is super nice and very quick. I've seen people utilize the carry out option and are in and out in just a few minutes. I'm not sure people realize just how many gems like this Silver Spring has. This is a fantastic place that does not get nearly enough attention, perhaps because it's slightly off the main drag. But it is very close to the usual downtown parking garage and has a knockout product for a great price from friendly folks. Take THAT, Bethesda! read more

I met a few girlfriends for brunch and ended up trying out Fenton Cafe. This place definitely has a hole in the wall vibe given it's a pretty small space and not the most aesthetically pleasing on the outside, but I was pleasantly surprised with how good these crepes were! When you first walk in, the menu is on the wall and there is a counter where you order. They brought our food to our table relatively quickly which was nice because I was starving! I got the chicken, pesto and tomato crepe as well as the ham egg and cheese crepe. One of my friends got the raspberry jam crepe which was AMAZING. I thoroughly enjoyed both savory crepes, although they were bigger than I expected and probably should've only ordered one. The service was quick and the food was delicious, but the actual customer service was mediocre at best. Overall, I had a pretty good experience and will definitely be returning. read more

I first noticed this little joint a couple of weeks after it opened up. I stepped in to get a menu to take back to my roommate (who's a crepe fiend and has been lamenting this town's lack of creperies) and was immediately charmed by the mother and daughter team at the register. They only had one menu but they very kindly allowed me to take it home, and so a weekly crepe ritual was born. The crepes I've had so far were delicious. The #1 with chicken, tomato, and feta was a very nice balance of flavors tucked into an airy fold of crepe. The stars of the show, though, were the Nutella and strawberry crepes I got each time I've been. I like the presentation on each plate as well, which I was not expecting out of such a tiny crepe joint. The savory dishes come with a smattering of greens tossed with feta and some oil based dressing (balsamic?). And the sweet dishes come with a generous dollop of whipped cream and powdered sugar. The space is light, cheery, and made for either a quick downing of coffee or a lengthier savoring of crepe. It's great for either getting some work done, chatting with friends, or people-watching. My only problem at all with the entire setup is the lack of space. There are only three tables, and while I truly enjoy the eating space next to the window, I feel like if I were there to try to get some work done, I'd want a little more space between me and the chatty college kids at the table behind me. Overall, though, loved this place, and recommend it thoroughly to everyone in the area, or even in DC and MD who've been (like my roommate) dying for a charming little creperie to fulfill their Parisian dreams. read more

On Yelp! advice, I tried Fenton Cafe. Seriously. As everyone else has mentioned, the name of the cafe doesn't showcase their fare at all. Cafe? This is a crepery. And I cannot believe we have one! I wish I'd known. A friend and I went there for breakfast one weekend morning. She got the Nutella, strawberry, and banana crepe, and she loved it. I tried their feta, artichoke, spinach crepe, and it was fantastic. The portion was definitely large enough for breakfast or lunch, and the staff was lovely. What a great little unassuming little spot. A simple creperie that provides a lot of options for both savory and sweet choices on the crepe palate, plenty of Nutella to go around in this joint. There is some espresso here as well, that comes out a bit fruity and acidic no doubt to using perhaps Ethiopian coffee? It's delish! That being said the dough on the crepes is real nice. It's not oily, thin, or greasy. It's thick, cakey, not sweet (at least for the savory crepe I had) and just a great texture. I went for a simple ham, cheese and egg, with added mushrooms. The fillings are substantially portioned while sometimes a little too cool particularly for the avocado and tomato version. There's a real nice touch though for the egg, it has some nice simple black pepper in it which gives a subtle kick to go with your ham and cheese. The place is small, and it's also a little cramped, but the staff who are quite busy really don't seem upset or overwhelmed by the eager customers. Service is presented with a smile and patience. 2 griddles fire up and never stop, while always looking spotless. They actually forgot to add the mushrooms, and when I mentioned, brought me a side of them for me to stick in my crepe. The Nutella and strawberry crepe was $6 well spent. I prefer my crepes a bit thinner but they didn't skimp on the fillings. A minor complaint is that the drinks in the cooler aren't cold. I bought a San Pellegrino Limonata and when the lady handed it to me fresh from the cooler, it was barely cooler than room temperature. Good thing I'd ordered to go, where I could put it in the fridge at work and save it for another time. As mentioned in other reviews, the service is slow but the crepes are worth it. I'm not typically a huge fan of crepes so I'm not much of a crepe connoisseur, but I really enjoyed the savory brunch crepe (#16). The crepe itself had a light sweet taste which paired well with the savory filling (turkey, swiss, egg, avocado, tomato, mushroom). The only downside to my crepe was that the mushrooms were canned, not fresh. Regardless, the crepe was satisfying and yummy. The bf opted for a sweet crepe filled with raspberries. I didn't try it but the raspberries looked very fresh and there was a substantial amount of them. The bf said they were perfectly ripe and tart. Food & drink: Tried the savory crepe #13 and added some turkey. It was delish!!! Crepe was craftily created in plain sight which was neat. It was the right thickness and flavor. The stuffing's flavor was delicately balanced too. I couldn't quite taste or see the caramelized onions but that didn't stop me from savoring it. Paired that with a true macchiato in a small itty bitty cup with fluffy froth. Add in that brown sugar and my eyes close and a slow motion "yum" escapes my curved lips. It could easily replace my Starbucks and Caribou. :-) Aesthetics: the place is a small whole in the wall but clean and friendly. Looks like the folks there are return patrons. This place is around the block from my boyfriend's apartment and a little gem! I personally love sweet crepes and would recommend coming here! The crepes are very large and quite tasty. I would recommend sharing one crepe if you are just looking for a quick snack. They remind me a lot of the crepes made by street vendors in Paris. In Paris/France, however, savory crepes are made from a different batter than sweet crepes but in the US, most savory and sweet crepes are made from the same exact batter with different ingredients inside. Great find! Tucked along Fenton St. near the corner of Bonifant is this wonderful little crepe place. It's very small, with an unassuming storefront and inside, but the crepes are on point. They offer lots of variety from sweet to savory, all at a reasonable price point. My only gripe (which is why I didn't give 4 stars) is the coffee. It's okay, but tastes a little burnt. Granted, I prefer medium roast, as I like to taste the coffee bean, so take that with a grain of salt. The bigger problem, however, is the lack of half/half or cream. Instead, they have coffeemate creamers...GROSS. They do have milk, you just have to ask for it. Still worth a visit for the crepes alone. And the staff are super nice. read more

Escaped from work today to find crepes and was happy to find this cafe. Ordered a sweet and savory crepe since it's the last day of the year and figured I can do one more crazy thing before ringing in the new year. The presentation for the savory crepe was simple. It was extremely delicious and satisfying and was my favorite out of the two. The sweet crepe was also delicious but a smidge too sweet and by this time I was already full. If you can't decide and you're with a friend, it would probably be best to share a sweet crepe together. Because there were only two women working, the crepes seemed to take some time to make. It's fun watching them make the crepes and the cafe is just cozy enough for you to do some work or read a good book. If you're in a rush, I wouldn't recommend this place but if you're looking for a hole in the wall cafe with amazing crepes, stop by! read more
