Lovely selection of alcohol, great service, keeping your money local and in the community, not much not to like. It is an affordable alternative to Total Wine carrying your adult beverage essentials, snacks and more! I made a quick stop here after work heading home, in preparation for a Friendsgiving dinner happening tomorrow. Immediately upon entering I was greeted with a hello which I appreciated. Customer service has always been top notch with the Spec's Team I like how they work to create a positive shopping experience each time I've visited a location and this spot is no different. Shout out to them! This Spec's location on Holcombe is a bit smaller than the location nearest my home, and a little "rough around the edges" in regards to its looks inside and outside, but it's ok, they have a good selection of wines, liquors and more and that'sall anyone would ask for. I had in mind to get a bottle of wine and call it a day, but a coworker suggested I get their Pecan Pie made with Crown Royal. Though a little on the pricey side for a pie, at a little over $20, I went ahead and bought it especially with Spec's staff bragging about how good it was! P.S. They ran out of samples to try, so I told them I'd take them at their word. So, the "jury" is out until tomorrow (I'll update then). All in all, Spec's is a great place to shop for any occasion and their prices aren't too bad. It's worth checking out if you've never been! Cheers, and enjoy! Update: The pie was good! Rich! Pecan-y, and yes you do taste the CR (Crown Royal) in it, but is not overpowering. Good flavor. Good balance. Try it!

No location is built the same of course, but this West U / Med Center spot isn't going to win any awards anytime soon. The good news is it's never *too* busy, even during the holidays. Parking is tight but manageable. There are sales happening frequently, which is aided primarily through their app. Otherwise prices are fair. The not so good news is the selection is somewhat limited. The store isn't that big and has a result. Some niche spirits that I might be looking for are never in store. Service isn't much better, but they're often telling me I can find what I want at another store. They're not the warmest bunch, which is why I try to find what I need on my own. Keep the needs basic and one should walk out of here relatively unscathed.

I was hoping for a more personalized experience and maybe some guidance from a knowledgeable staff member on choosing a good bottle. I came in during the middle of a workday and was the only customer in the store, yet the man behind the counter didn't speak to me or offer any assistance the entire time I was there. I was also disappointed to later discover that the bottle I purchased was very heavily marked up. The same wine was available at H-E-B for significantly less. I understand that a specialty wine shop may charge a premium, and I'm happy to pay a little more when that comes with knowledgeable recommendations and personalized service. Unfortunately, that wasn't my experience here, so I won't be returning.

Would I recommend a drink tasting class at Total Wines? Yes…read more Would I recommend a certain local? Absolutely!! 2617 W Holcombe Blvd Houston, TX 77025 Would I recommend an instructor? Most definitely!! Mr. Illick (I hope my spelling is correct) I absolutely love love love going to the Total Wine tasting classes! They're packed with history, food pairings, cocktail making ideas, and so much information. I've discovered new brands, learned things I never knew, and even met some great people. One of the best parts is getting to sample everything from budget friendly bottles to high end selections without breaking the bank. I first stumbled across these classes while shopping at Total Wines for a sweet wine. I had no idea they offered them, and I was pleasantly surprised by how affordable they were. Since then, I've attended eight classes, and I've genuinely enjoyed every one. My favorite has been the Champagne class, and my favorite instructor is Illick he always does an amazing job making the classes both educational and fun. These classes are perfect for date nights, solo outings, girls' nights, coworker outings, or even a fun get together with friends and family. Every class includes a spread of sandwiches, fruit, crackers, cheese, cookies, and bottled water. They have from $20-$40 or free (depending on the class), you get all of those snacks plus 7-8 tastings. For me that's a great value! As an added bonus, they also give you 10% off your purchase after the class. So if you're looking for something fun, different, and budget-friendly to do, I highly recommend downloading the Total Wine app and checking out their tasting classes. You might just find your new favorite wine and a new favorite hobby!

I experienced this side of the business during the early phase of the Covid pandemic back in 2020. At the time, during lockdown, going to a wine bar or wine shop just wasn't top of mind. However, I had researched a Cabernet Franc (red wine) called Nicolas Reau Enlèvement Demandé Anjou [Vintage year: 2017]. Reau is kind of a rebel working in the Loire Valley of France who is interested in producing organic, biodynamic wines that are essentially closer to nature and processed differently--more artisanal, so to speak. I read about this wine and wanted to find a bottle locally, which wasn't an easy task as I recall. This is where Vinology comes in. I'm not much of a wine drinker, but had to have a bottle of this excellent wine. Like many people, I preferred to stay indoors during the early part of the pandemic and was kind of nervous about going out. When I called Vinology, I expressed my dilemma, and the guy on the other end of the phone came up with a great solution. He offered to deliver the bottle of wine I purchased to my address. I actually met him at the edge of the garage entrance to where I live. This was great, exceptional above and beyond service. I will always treasure and remember Vinology and plan to support the business more in the future. Hats off to the folks who own and run this wine establishment.
