My wife had the Smash Burger while I enjoyed the Fender Melt. We both upgraded our side to onion rings. Both which I recommend. The service was good, the food was questionable (potatoes tasted like industrial soap), the ambiance was confusing. I got the tender bender, the chicken was okay but as previously stated, the mashed potatoes tasted like industrial soap with gelatinous cold gravy. The ambiance, ah, that is the question. You walk into a dark bar and turn left and you are in a 1950's style diner but with stylized pictures of 1970's entertainers with some unknown music playing (not music indicative of the 50's). We were promptly seated. They were very busy and only had two servers. My kids who live here a brought us here this was their first visit too! They cannot wait to come back. We ordered the fried deviled eggs, fender melt and smash burger. My kiddo had the chocolate milkshake, old school soda foundation set up. My first time being at Fenders, but my family has been there before. Not busy at all. Food was delicious except, my smash burger was cold and my daughter's fish and chips was burnt. Nobody else complained about their temperature of their food. Maybe just a bad night? read more

We came when they opened - only one other table was occupied. Service was horrendous. We waited 20 minutes to place an order...then another hour to get our food. I'm told others at the table were content with their luke warm food but mine was cold and virtually inedible. I think we were told four times that our food was coming. Would not recommend. My biggest issue with our visit today was lack of cleanliness. My drink was served in a glass that had dried food on the outside. When I brought this to the servers attention, her response was "girl, the overnight dishwasher is falling down on the job". When our food was served, I picked up the ketchup bottle and turned it over and water came gushing out of it all over the table. The windows were very dirty with hand prints all over them. As we left, I checked the health score and it was an 88. Totally made sense considering our experience. Very disappointing and will not be returning any time soon! read more

Really disappointing experience. We were seated and received our drinks fairly quickly, but after that, the service completely stopped. We waited over 30 minutes with no one returning to take our order or check on us. Watching other tables get attention while we were ignored made it even worse. We drove nearly an hour to go here. A friend recommended but hadn't been in a few years and since current ownership. Website and photos online of interior of restaurant are deceiving of this establishment. They are not accurate. Half of the restaurant (the one we were seated in) was very dull looking . It doesn't have any of the nostalgic decor. Drab brown walls and black table tops and chairs. The really cool nostalgic area that resembles the fifties era was not handicap accessible. We came in with had a larger group and called ahead after sitting down waiting quite awhile for menus and drink orders to be taken. We are a pretty laid back group and don't ask for much. The overall vibe we received from front of the house staff was they simply didn't want to be bothered. After placing order it took forever for food. We actually watched them turn away several patrons. There was just one server on the floor, a young girl who had a very lackadaisical demeanor and the manager had about the same . We joked that there might have been only one person in the kitchen. We were correct. After speaking up about the long wait they did indeed tell us there was one cook for the whole restaurant. Eventually food was delivered and cook helped deliver it. I felt bad for him because it wasn't his fault . I blame poor management / ownership . We also had to go get our own silverware because we were never brought any. Food wasn't bad just not worth the wait and lack of customer service. read more

Went in right after opening, greeted promptly by a friendly young lady. We had a dog and had to be seated outside, she was the only one working that morning so we felt bad she would have to be running around. Overall, it was a cute little diner, but the food lacked flavor. We were excited when we found the diner on yelp and read the menu and reviews. It sounded very fun and delicious. We were seated promptly upon our arrival. They were not busy at the time, so we were able to select a great seating location for us. The waitress was very courteous and took our order promptly. The food came out pretty quickly overall. The food looked good, but it didn't seem to have the wow factor we were expecting. My husband had the Reuben sandwich, which had some flavor, but not to the degree you would expect from a Reuben sandwich. The fries were very crispy and flavorful. I had the rip dip sandwich, which came with a small dish of au jus. Both the sandwich and the au jus had very little flavor, which was disappointing. Again, the fries were good. I supposedly had the "Cajun" fries, but all that really means is they give you a small dish of Cajun seasoning to sprinkle on top of your fries. Disappointing to say the least. My mom had the fish and chips, which she said was great. My daughter had a pancake with chocolate chips on top. She's not quite a foodie yet, so the food fit her needs just fine. The kids meal also came with a side dish and ice cream, which made it a great value. The ice cream was actually big enough that the four of us shared it. Overall, the portions were large and made with quality. The only thing really lacking was flavor. The diner was very cute and 50s like. There is a more modern addition to the restaurant that is great from an additional seating perspective. The restaurant is very popular with both teens and older adults. I paid $70 for the beef tips meal (which tasted like canned cat food on top of sour mash potato's) bang bang shrimp tacos which my husband ordered he said they were ok too sweet for his liking....we then placed an order to go of dessert ...let's just say it was even more disappointing . I got the fried Oreos which were suppose to come with chocolate and caramel sauce, powder sugar and ice cream. I got the ice cream but no powder sugar or Carmel and chocolate sauce not to mention the fried Oreos were BURNT AS EVER (they just went straight in the trash) . My husband ordered the French toast and that too was extremely burnt and WELL OVER COOKED. I would definitely not ever recommend this place to anyone . Had to go back since I was in town again. They were busy, so that's good for them! Our service was slower than it has been in the past, slow to check on us, slow for food to come out, but not horrible. At our table, we ordered steak and potato, with side of green beans, sliders with added side of grit cake, and shrimp and grits. It was said that the food exceeded expectations of diner food, and had good prices. The grit cakes are crispy outside, and creamy inside with some kind of cheese. We'd love to know how to make them. We all decided to splurge on dessert. Brownie Tower, Fried Oreos, and Vanilla Milkshake. As a S'mores fan, the Brownie Tower was absolutely decadent. The flavor was amazing, and it just all melted in your mouth. The fried Oreos were battered and fried, and dusted with powdered sugar. The vanilla milkshake didn't have enough flavor to their liking, so the server added some caramel syrup for them. We saw cotton candy, which is delivered on a tall pole to kids. The presentation is so cute, and of course kids' smiles are the best. Fender's is always worth a visit! read more

We're locals and yet we always forget about Fender's. Not sure when the menu changed, maybe it's from all the revitalization hitting downtown Cornelia but everything got a facelift, an elevated twist. Against my instinct, I ordered shrimp & grits. You can always tell a chef by this dish, it was delish! The grit cakes were creamy on the inside, crisp and crunchy on the outside. Pleasantly surprised. Our waitress was kind, fast, and gracious. The food is good depending on the dish. The atmosphere is really nice. The owners have done a great job at giving the community a fun, entertaining semi-affordable place to gather. Only true complaint would fall on the online services and calling the store. Always greeted by an automated message followed by a voicemail. Kids meals are not available through online ordering, so families be sure to take in your kids to be able to get those meals. Otherwise it's a decent restaurant that is limited in its options compared to the past, but a good local joint. read more

We sat outside on a hot Friday August evening with live music playing on the patio. They had several large fans that moved the air around for a good breeze. Super friendly wait staff took our order quickly. We had a few drinks before placing our food order. MIL ordered the chicken sandwich and oh my goodness, it was soooo delicious. I had the assorted sliders. Eh, not my fav that is for sure. The meat had probably been frozen and was very stiff and lacked flavor. Hubs also ordered chicken sandwich but was brought something different. Notified wait staff who quickly corrected the mistake but then charged us for it! Didn't notice until next morning that we paid for a $13 sandwich we didn't order or eat. The flies are major problem on the patio. Unpleasant and uninvited dinner guests!!! Needed something to curb the pests. Maybe some of those small fans on each table that are deterrents for flies! Overall we enjoyed our time and meal and would eat there again, just inside next time. read more

We got here as first timers on a Sunday afternoon and had to wait for a table. The place was hopping and it was all good. My GF and I split a salad and one entree and it was plenty to eat. "It was so good and plentiful, I thought about taking my leftovers, but I couldn't because we are traveling." -- Nicole. "Ditto." - the rest of us in the group! Tiny town but big flavor and great ambience and fair prices. The Brunch Burger really doesn't blend breakfast and lunch (and every other meal) -- with a lightly sweet funnel cake bun and savory burger and egg and so much more. The Big Bird and the Dirty Bird (slaw between the buns) sandwiches are mega-sized with double patties. The Cajun fries are well-seasoned (though not super crispy). And the menu in general has abundant options for snacks and meals and drinks and adult-milkshakes and more. The staff is friendly and attentive and the space is nifty -- with bar areas and seating both inside and outside (includes huge well-lit tv screens!). Bonus - truly accessible wheelchair bathrooms (except the doors are too heavy for independent opening). We hope to have reason to travel through this little town again, and will surely have the Fenders Diner on our itinerary. read more

I regret not getting pics. Presentation of the Shrimp & Grits was underwhelming, both by appearance and in the process of partaking. We sat outside to watch the Georgia game, so by default my meal came in the tin tray with paper lining (apparently it would have been in a normal plate or bowl if we chose to eat inside.) It wasn't exactly the easiest way to enjoy shrimp & grits. Cutting the grits patties with the sauce made the liner soggy and torn. I had to double check my bites to be sure I wasn't going to eat paper. These are details I don't want to worry about when I go somewhere to enjoy a good time with family. I also don't want to feel like a second class citizen just because we chose to be outside. On the other hand, my husband's fried lasagna came in typical dinnerware, so why the exception for his meal while mine was saucier? This was our second time here and we love the atmosphere and concept of Fenders. We plan on returning in the future so I look forward to updating my review with more stars! read more
