In the…read moresummer of 2023, they held three of them at The Oaks in Thousand Oaks (east parking lot, where the Thursday Farmers Market is held). Not sure if they'll do multiple sales in 2024, or just the one. The June 8, 2024 version featured 65 vendors. Many were local to Ventura County and western L.A. County. Others came from further afield, bringing their antique and vintage treasures. I found a couple of things that will add some pops of color and interest to our home, including a "Big Red Cherry" metal pitcher, and a cherry-print accent pillow. It was a fun way to spend a couple of hours, browsing past all of the booths. I enjoy how many of the vendors bring in fresh flowers and plants to layer in color and natural touches to the whole endeavor. Many Americana accents were on hand ahead of 4th of July and other summer events. A lot of the vendors Dear Hubby and I know from other shows, yet it's always an adventure to discover new dealers from out of town sharing their finds. Each dealer handles their own transactions; there isn't a central payment station. Some of them only take cash, a few accept checks. Some are set up with Venmo. Having cash is often the safest bet. Generally, prices were fair. Both my husband and I fell in love with Japanese design and craftsmanship a few years ago on our first trip to Japan. Since then, we've been drawn to various Japanese shops and stores around LA. There are a couple great shops for housewares around southern California - but we never found a shop that carried Japanese made furniture. My husband happened upon Ookkuu's website while looking for lighting - and we were shocked to find that they carried a number of items by famous Japanese architects and industrial designers that we'd never imagined we'd find in the states. We're lucky to have this shop in South Pasadena - I don't think there's a shop like it elsewhere in the states. Their showroom is on the second floor of an office building, don't be fooled - they love walk-ins! The showroom is small - but they carry quite a few of the items from their website. It's amazing what they can fit in there. It's definitely worth a visit to see these pieces in person. They also have a few small items like glassware, incense, plates and paper lanterns. They get new pieces in pretty regularly - so it's nice to go back often. Can't say enough great things - we'll be back when we decide to make our next purchase!

These two truly went above and beyond customer service to help me. Don't be deterred by the "create an account" on their site. It turned into an interesting way for them to know who I was before visiting, plus it let me preview all of the prices. It feels so wonderful to know that people who care so much about quality and functional design are actually within reach. ;)

Yesterday, I went to this location, and the selection of decoration was satisfying. When i went to pay for my items, the employee, Stephanie, was very blunt. I tapped my card, and forgot to put my pin, and she demanded i finish the process so I could receive my receipt. I also noticed that there was a decoration that someone had returned, and I ask Stephanie if she could hand me the decoration, and she made the manager hand me the item. When I declined the decoration, the manager politely took the item back. Shortly after, someone dropped a glass plate, and she, again, demanded they move out of the way so that she could clean up the shattered glass. Clearly, she was very impolite.

I tried to purchase bed sheets from Cabana for my 12th anniversary. I needed the best…read more I decided to purchase local versus the Internet, as I needed a knowledgeable person. Over several days I engaged in 3 conversations with a Cabana salesperson. She recommended their house brand (Matouk) and assured me Matouk was a "best seller" and "Cabana carried nothing but the best". Over subsequent conversations it was clear that the salesperson could not answer basic questions such as "why is Matouk your best seller?" I prompted her to discuss thread counts and cotton types, but she was mostly stumped. She eventually admitted that she never used a Matouk product. I had the impression that she had never used a fine linen product. I eventually found a sell on the Internet with a tremendous amount of knowledge that made me feel safe in my decision. I also felt like I learned something, other than what is the "best seller". I spent 15 minutes on the phone with an expert and made the decision....that was a savings when you consider I got nowhere with Cabana in over an hour of discussions and research. I spent slightly more, approximately $1000, on the Internet than I would have spent at Cabana, but for my 12th anniversary I needed to be 100% certain that I would not be disappointed. I also felt better telling my partner all about the type of cotton, thread count, etc., rather than simply saying "happy anniversary, the Sales person told me it is there best seller".

We worked with Padavo to build this custom cabinetry in our home. We had been considering measuring…read moreourselves and ordering custom cabinets from IKEA but I am so glad I saw the Padavo store in Thousand Oaks and went in see what they had to say, what we ended up with is 100 times better. From the start Zazu was super helpful and knowledgeable. He understood us when we discussed the project and the finished cabinets are exactly what we wanted. The work was done incredibly well and looks very upscale and nice, a big step above other, cheaper furniture we have had in the past. It did take a while for the piece to be constructed, but once it was done the installation was done within a day. The carpenter, Sal, who did the initial measuring and then the installation was kind, neat and did an amazing job. A few months after the installation we damaged the counter top and Sal came and took the piece away, repaired it and reinstalled it like new. The price was fair and the piece is a great addition to our home. I would absolutely recommend Padavo for custom furniture and would use them in the future.
