We decided to do the tasting menu at Le Pigeon, and this ended up being one of my favorite meals…read moreI've had in Portland! Definitely worth a stop if you can budget for it! The service was fantastic. Friendly, informative, and personable. The whole experience felt intentional from the presentation and plate choices to changing out the dishes between each course, even how the utensils were placed. The tiny BLT amuse-bouche was such a fun start. Somehow they packed the entire BLT experience into one bite...smoky bacon, bright tomato, and a perfectly crisp puff pastry. The crab and corn was one of my favorites. The shrimp oil somehow tasted like pure shrimp in the best way, while the poblano sauce was bright and tangy and the sugar melon added the perfect sweetness. I was practically licking the bowl. My one callout, more crab please. Even the bread and tomato-chive butter was memorable. The tomato had a slight tang, the chive was subtle, and little bursts of salt made the flavor pop. The rabbit pie was another standout. The pastry was buttery, flaky, and SO light, while the smoked rabbit was tender and delicious. The mustard seed added a great acidic contrast. The rabbit heart was probably the one component I could've done without, just felt unnecessary? Didn't really add much? I also loved the seared foie gras and crispy duck confit taquito. The foie was incredibly tender, rich, smoky, and delicious. The taquito was a thin thin wrapper packed full of tender duck with great smokey flavor. The sturgeon pastrami genuinely tasted like pastrami despite being fish, which was wild! The rest of that course wasn't really for me, but I loved the citrus and pickled radish that helped brighten it up. The lamb was beautifully cooked and charred with rosemary, and the demi-glace was sooo good. The risotto wasn't my favorite, but honestly I think I might just not be a risotto person. Dessert was a great finish. The blackberry mousse was fresh, light, fruity, and nutty with a delicious cardamom flavor. The foie gras profiterole was also surprisingly good. You couldn't even taste the foie gras, and the slight saltiness worked so well.

Best meal of our lives…read more My husband and I decided to try our first "Chef's Tasting Menu" experience here at Le Pigeon for our Wedding Anniversary. There are 5 courses, with a 6th extra dessert, and a 7th course for $30 more. We asked for all 7 because everything on the menu sounded good and I was worried I would still be hungry afterwards. We opted for the selected wine pairing and took a 20 minute walk around the block before driving. The wine was amazing, so we're glad we chose that option. We definitely want to try the non-alcoholic pairing next time, now that we know we can trust their expertly curated selections to be exceptional. We were surprised: 1) that in addition to the 7 items we were also served an amuse-bouche, Ken's Artisan bread with garlic confit, and a chocolate truffle made in house with the check (so many additions!) 2) that the staff gave us new, clean silverware with every dish (fancy!) 3) that each staff member was knowledgeable about every item served. We were really impressed with the attention to detail, knowledge, care, pride, and service. I was speechless when tasting the seared foie gras with the hint of salt on top. My husband could taste the glaze that had been brushed onto the duck tornado. The profiterole was mind blowing. 11/ 10 would recommend for anyone that can afford this experience.

Changing seasonal menus means it's never the same thing twice (except the steam burgers, which are a beloved institution of their own, and I hope they stay on the menu forever). The best thing about Canard, besides the food and service, is how accessible it is. You don't have to be well educated about wine to benefit from their excellent collection. Those who might find finer-dining items intimidating will also find familiar favorites on the menu. Even my teenager, who can be wary of trying new things, was persuaded by beautiful presentation to give every dish a chance (spoiler: she liked everything she ate!). Just the best place, worth every penny.

I did a walk in around 6pm on a weekday and there were plenty of seats at the counter where you can watch them cook. The foie gras is delicious but not a must do for the pancakes. I think it works better with the duck frites. I think the duck was good but I just had one bite so can't remember. The fries were good though. Foie gras dumplings were also memorable but I don't necessarily need to get it again. The arugula salad was refreshing although I'd ask to have it accompany the duck stacks next time to have a refreshing side. I love fish so I expected to love the chicken fried trout but it was just alright compared to the other dishes. The Paris brest was excellent. Personally, a little too much passionfruit tartness for me but loved the milk crumbles. Heartless Rita mocktail tasted too much like juice for me.

The French-Scandinavian influence makes the food feel completely different from your typical Portland restaurant. Everything we had was beautifully prepared, creative, and clearly made with a tremendous amount of care. The flavors were incredible, the presentation was gorgeous, and the whole experience felt more like visiting a little European café than having lunch in Portland. Exceptional service and attention to detail. The quiche and the chicken pate were my favourite.

Fun textures and I'd never had non fried razor clams before. The highlight though was the jiggly quiche that reminded me of an extra rich chawanmushi but with a nice crust. We also got the cheese plate and some sweets. Service was perfect for catching up friends and enjoying a slow morning, but you might be annoyed if you're in a hurry. It's a small spot and things take time because they're made with care. I would come back again, especially for the quiche. Our server was great and the ambiance was so cute. Loved the different dishes and variety of cutlery. It was like eating in someone's farm cottage while the sun poured in through the window.
