My Le Pigeon restaurant experience was one for the record books. Not just because I'd been looking forward to eating there for a long time, but also because our dinner was to me, a memorable occasion - my 75th birthday! Three quarters of a century. Birthdays seem to arrive faster every year, and for this one I felt a special restaurant was in order. So I pulled the trigger on Le Pigeon in Portland as the place my wife and I would celebrate. I opted for seats at the Chef's Table, because we have done this twice before at other restaurants and really enjoyed being able to watch the chefs do their thing, and occasionally getting a chance to schmooze with them. It's a lot of fun, and I highly recommend it! The show in the kitchen did not disappoint. If you're expecting to observe Gordon Ramsey kitchen chaos, you need to go somewhere else. At Le Pigeon the chefs worked with meticulous attention to detail. Everything was so organized, each dish had been prepped with the kind of care that could fool you into thinking what they were doing was easy. Ha! It's been said that genius is the ability to make the complex seem plain, and the chefs working in the kitchen did just that! There are two menus offered nightly, a carnivore offering and a vegetarian. My wife and I both chose the meat option. I'll post a copy of the menu so you can see yourself. My wife told me she wasn't going to eat sweetbreads, so I could have them. I eagerly agreed, as I had been wanting to try them for a long time. There was also a menu item you can choose as a "supplement" for an extra $30. My wife again passed, this time due to the foie gras, but hey, I'm only 75 once in life, so I added it to my order. Oh, and I began it all with an Old Fashioned. Man, it was absolutely delicious! The dinners also have an option for wine pairings, which I took them up on, too, and I'm glad I did. I will admit that my first glass of wine tasted a bit light, I thought. But then I tasted it with the food and that was a different experience entirely! Each glass fit each dish perfectly. I'm not a wine connoisseur by any means and I didn't recognize any of the wines they were pouring for me that night - and the pours were very nice - but the way they matched each dish was a bit amazing. My hat is off to the person who paired the wines! The service was great, too. Our waiter was very attentive without being intrusive. The only thing I would suggest for the wait staff is that they should be able to give a somewhat detailed explanation of who chose the wines for the meal. I asked, but the answer was a bit vaggue. I don't want a complete resume, but I'd like to know their name, whether or not they are a sommelier, if not I'd like to know their experience, perhaps a stgory as to how they picked these particular wines, etc. The lack of a good answer didn't detract from the meal, and is really just a nit, but I think it is something Le Pigeon could improve on. All in all, we enjoyed everything we ate! And drank! This, of course is exactly what you want to experience when you are dropping significant dollars for a meal. Yeah, Le Pigeon is definitely $$$$, but for a special occasion like a 75th birthday, it was worth it! I will admit to being slightly disappointed that I didn't get a little something-something for my birthday. You know, maybe a special extra amuse. What I got instead was a candle in my dessert. LOL. Oh, well. Because this was a selfish pleasure I desired, I can't ding the restaurant for it. I still enjoyed myself immensely. Lastly, I just want to lodge a minor protest. Le Pigeon is one of a growing number of restaurants that are now charging a percent of the bill to pay for employee healthcare. I object to this. Call me crazy, but I do not believe customers should be forced to pay extra, above and beyond a tip, for a restaurant's employee's health insurance. Personally, I'd rather see those costs built into the menu prices than added as a separate line item. I know, easy for me to say, but that's the way I feel. Would I book a table at Le Pigeon again? Absolutely! p.s. Street parking was not a problem at all.

Yeah to my first review of 2026 and it is for Le Pigeon which is a French restaurant located in Portland! This place is small, so please make reservations in advance. Dinner is a tasting menu so you don't even need to think about it! The chef has already done all the work and you just have to enjoy and have the delicious food. You can pick from two options one is a meat tasting and the other is catered to vegetarians. We also came here for a birthday and they made it extra special! Thank you for that :) Overall picked the meat one and it was delicious. I really enjoyed the taste of the blackened grouper and the foi gras was packed with flavor and just tasty! Each dish was a spellbound of flavor that blended really well with the others. Loved each plate that came out and would totally recommend coming here for a nice meal.

I went with my girlfriend for my birthday. We each got the vegetarian tasting menu with a few substitutions. Overall I think the flavors, presentation, execution and service were mostly excellent. I was hoping for something "earth shattering" though and didn't quite get that. One issue I had was that the textures in the meal were almost all soft. I noticed myself craving for something more substantial that I could chew. Something that is satiating. For $140/person I think it's a reasonable deal. I'd return if the menu spoke to me.

My boyfriend surprised me with a booking here on our last night in Portland! We don't typically get French cuisine, but we were in the mood for something high end. He booked on OpenTable on the same day at 7:00 pm. When we arrived, we were surprised by how small and intimate the restaurant was. We were seated immediately and the servers introduced themselves to us. Super friendly and welcoming! We opted for the Omnivore 5-course option. We were amazed to find a non-alcoholic pairing for the meals! We both don't drink and we love mocktails. We really appreciated this option. Just keep in mind it was a $45 charge per person! So it was +$90 to our bill. Again, we rarely treat ourselves and rarely find this option, so he decided to get it. I am truly grateful! This was our line up: STEAK TARTARE mussels, apricot, sea beans HOT AND COLD SHRIMP AND GRITS aged gouda, provençal, powdered lobster STEELHEAD GLAÇAGE leeks, passionfruit mustard, potato WINE CAN CHICKEN pork belly, stuffed shell, truffle STRAWBERRY SHERBET chamomile panna cotta, yuzu, oat We didn't know what to expect, but we were floored by each item we tried. Every single dish was crafted with excellence and the drink pairing Was outstanding. My favorite would have to be steelhead glacage and the wine chicken. For the drinks, we definitely loved the two different rumi champagne and rosé. The most unique item we tried was the foie gras coke float! Like whaaat, that's a thing? Our total bill without tip was $380! It was a two-hour event. Thank you for much for this beautiful experience!

I took my partner to Le Pigeon for her birthday recently and it was absolutely delightful, as always. This is our third visit, and it continues to impress and delight. We both lived in NYC and Chicago and she lived in Paris, and we're no stranger to first rate white tablecloth culinary palaces, and can't be more delighted to have discovered this place, in a completely unassuming building off East Burnside, that's on par with the best we've had anywhere. We opted for the omnivore menu, with the optional extra course, plus the wine pairing. We went with the "regular" versus "reserve" pairing as it was more than up to the task, but in general it's worth the slight price premium. There was an un-announced surprise starter, and I really wish I'd taken notes as it was delicious and I don't remember anything other than the shaved white truffle garnish. That was followed by the steak tartare, plated with mussels very lightly poached in white wine and sea beans atop an apricot puree. This was followed by a bread plate while the next course was prepared, with a black truffle butter spread. The hot and cold shrimp and grits was amazing and completely unlike any shrimp and grits I'd ever had - the shrimp were cold, the grits hot, and it was all delicious. Who knew you could garnish with powdered lobster? That took us into the foie gras and duck lumpia. If you don't know, lumpia is sort of a big spring roll and this was delicious. The green strawberries were crip and tart, the duck perfect, and the rest of the fillings complementary. The fish course was a steelhead glaçace - the glaze was a passionfruit and dijon mustard affair, lightly herbed, poured over the steelhead atop a bed of leeks and potatoes, topped with a bit of crispy trout skin. It's hard to single anything out as the highlight but this was close The wine can chicken preparation details are lost at this point but it was flavorful, served with crispy pork belly and a stuffed shell, with truffle garnish. This moved us to the desert portions of the evening starting with the strawberry sherbet which was so amazingly tempting that I managed to not snap a "before" photo, only catching that mid-way through. Absolutely divine. The chaser was a foie gras profiterole, proving once again that creativity knows no bounds here. Beautiful and delicious, and so delicate. As it was a birthday occasion, the house brought out a celebratory chocolate mousse cake, with a single candle and thank goodness, no singing. Perfection. All in, it was an amazing evening. If you're coming, do note that this is a leisurely experience - plan on spending about two hours enjoying your meal, and the exceptional service. The wine pairing provides half pours but six samplings (seven if you take the optional course), so all in between 2 and 3 glasses. Speaking of service - it's first class. Professional, friendly, super knowledgeable about the dishes and the wines, willing and able to discuss at length, and did I say friendly? Best in class for sure. As noted, we've been before. We'll be back again in the future. In a perfect world I'd find an excuse to come in at least once a month. Highest possible recommendation.

    March 2026 Menu

The March 2026 chef's tasting menu delivered a memorable evening. Staff was engaging and knowledgeable. The opening scallop + radish course set the tone beautifully--clean, precise, and layered with flavor. It was easily the standout of the night and showcased the kitchen at its most refined. We opted to add the foie gras terrine supplement, which was clearly well executed. The flavors were rich and thoughtful, especially with the rhubarb and pistachio elements, though the overall dish leaned quite dense and heavy. The kitchen was gracious in accommodating a crustacean allergy, substituting a pasta dish in place of the shellfish components. The pasta was satisfying and well prepared, a thoughtful adjustment that didn't feel like an afterthought. The pork ribeye was nicely cooked and flavorful, though the accompanying Brussels sprouts were slightly overdone, losing some of the texture and balance the dish called for. Dessert courses were strong overall--particularly the strawberry yuzu, which was bright and refreshing. However, the final foie gras profiterole felt overly heavy at the end of an already rich meal and didn't quite land as intended. We chose the standard wine pairing, which was a highlight in its own right. The pours were generous, and each selection complemented the courses thoughtfully, enhancing the progression of the meal without overpowering it. Overall, a very good experience with moments of excellence--especially at the start and in the beverage program--though a slightly lighter touch in the later courses would elevate the menu even further.

Best dining experience in ALL of Portland! Both chef's tasting menus are so well done and I will be returning soon. Price is really not that bad considering the elevation of the dining experience and you will leave plenty full from the courses they put together in the menu.

All in all, it was a great experience dining at Le Pigeon. However, given the price point, I was a bit disappointed with some of the dishes. My favorite dish was the foie gras and duck lumpia. The duck fat combined with the crispy lumpia was PACKED with flavor. I also enjoyed the ube/tamarind drink in the non-alcohol pairing option. The Chilean sea bass and hamachi, however were the most disappointing dishes. The chicken broth in the Chilean sea bass dish was moderately salty. For the price point, I would expect the flavor to be a bit more unique than just the taste of salty chicken broth. The fish, however, was cooked well. The flavor of the hamachi sauce, raita, used in the dish did not shine. So I felt like I was just eating raw hamachi without sauce. Both desserts were way too sweet for my liking. I felt like the sweetness overpowered every flavor of the desserts. Service was good and I enjoyed the atmosphere!

Food was good - interesting ingredients and beautiful presentation. Service was meh, rather lukewarm. Ambiance was left to be desired.

I think of Le Pigeon as the OG of tasting menus in Portland. When I visited the city a long time ago, my sister would recommend Le Pigeon as one of the best places for fine dining. After so many years, I finally decided to give it a try. The ambience is cozy like a tiny French bistro, so not pretentious at all, very Portland. The tasting menu offers 6 courses with a foie gras supplement (which I didn't get). Overall, I enjoyed the experience, friendly is super friendly and since I dined alone, I sat at the counter watching the chef and crew prepping all the dishes. All the dishes were expertly cooked, especially the lamb, which was so tender and mouth-watering. The style did feel a bit stuck in time, like tasting menu plating you maybe saw in the 90s, and one plate (the seafood course of blackened grouper) had muddled flavors. Their signature end dish of foie gras profiterole was nice but not necessarily cutting edge in creation. Still, it's a Portland institution and worth trying.

Took my dad here for his birthday dinner and had a wonderful time. The food is incredible with lots of flavors and complexities. We loved every dish we ordered. Staff had excellent attention to detail and very knowledgeable.

Wow, I had high expectations for this restaurant and it still managed to exceed it. Everything was incredible - both the food and the service. I was fortunate that my friend got the vegetarian menu and I got the omnivore so that we could try all the things - and they were both equally good. We both also each got the supplemental dish which was a great option - the one on the vegetarian menu is to die for. Given that their menu fluctuates I won't detail out every dish and how good they were but out of the 16 dishes I ate or tried - there was only 1 that was lackluster - those are some pretty good odds. If you're worried about being hungry after because the plates look small - trust me that won't be a problem - I was bursting by the end I was so full. The ambiance is also so great - a balance of cozy and intimate yet lively - a great spot for rich conversation. I'll be dreaming of Le Pigeon until I can return.

I had been wanting to go here for a loooong time. Finally dined at Le Pigeon recently and was thoroughly impressed. The food was exceptional--high quality, beautifully prepared, and the menu offered unique dishes that delighted from start to finish. I didn't eat a single thing I didn't love. The service was truly some of the best I've ever experienced; our server was incredibly knowledgeable about both the food and wine pairings, enhancing the entire meal. The intimate setting made it even more special. It is certainly on the pricey side, but absolutely worth it for the experience. Highly recommend.

    Is this a dress-up place?

Will I get full off the tasting menu or is it for the experience?

I'm going to have to say, that all depends on how much you need to eat to get full. On the times I was there it was sufficient, I'm 6'2" and weigh 185.

How much does it cost to eat here? I really prefer to know what I'm signing up for.

I believe it was about $120 each for the tasting menu and if you get the premium wine pairing it's about $200 each (gratuity is automatically included in the price).

Is the $50 service fee used towards the total or is that an additional cost?

When we ate there a month back, there was no service fee. So I'm not sure what you're referring to there. They DO add a 20% gratuity across the board for their course menus (not out of the ordinary for Portland), tacked on to the food total as an… Read more

Do you offer any vegan options?

Their course menu had a "carnivore" and a "vegetarian" option (and both were top-notch!), but there were no vegan options that I was aware of. But we also didn't specifically ask about vegan. Definitely vegetarian-friendly though.

Is the tasting menu different from the menu or selections from the menu?

    Yes, it is different dishes.

I'll be in PDX this week and it looks like all the reservations are taken. Do they have bar spots that are first come first serve?

Yes, the bar is first come first server. I think there are about 8 seats. Get there early and you shouldn't have a problem. Chef's tasting menu is the way to go.

    Do they serve Beef Wellington?

No. It's a rotating menu based on what's available and what the Chef wants to put together. The menu is incredible and I highly recommend the tasting menu.

My family and I grew up eating liver and mousse from our own family recipes and from many different culinary traditions. The chicken liver mousse here was creamy in texture but lacked depth and subtle sweetness, and tasted overly mineralized. It was the first chicken liver mousse I have ever not finished. The crab beignets were acceptable, though they could have used more crab. The accompanying sauce was well executed. The miso deviled eggs were tasty, and the anchovy add-on worked nicely. The Parisienne gnocchi, at $40, was not memorable and leaned heavily salty. Steak frites were standard, a dish that is generally hard to fumble. Unfortunately drinks. The shift in service after we sent back the hamachi was obviously uncomfortable and noticeable. The energy dramatically changed. There was little interest in engaging with our feedback. For a meal that totaled over $200, we left disappointed and still hungry. Portland offers many stronger dining options at this price point that deliver both quality and hospitality. Disappointing feels like an understatement. I am genuinely puzzled by the high rating based on the food quality and service we experienced. We will not be returning, nor would I recommend it based on this visit.
