Previously Cajun Feast and now Feast Cafe, right at the entrance to downtown Davis. New management aka the sweetest Chinese couple ever!! They can speak English and try their best. Everything here is made in-house, super authentic, and at a great price. It's clean and well-lit inside, and I even got a tour of the kitchen/storage which is well-organized and I saw that everything is made from scratch. I had the xiaolongbao, $9 for 8 pcs which is easily the best price in Davis. There's a good amount of meat inside and the meat is really soft. The chili oil was also great imo, not overpowering like other places and perfectly spicy. Unc Wei has made xiaolongbao for 20 years and is looking for feedback as he wants to make sure the filling suits local tastes. Highly recommend and will be coming back often! read more

Service is kind of slow. Place is very clean. An okay place for quick lunches or big groups or takeout. The fried chicken is pretty amazing. The fried rice isn't so. Tho that's to be expected since I did grow up in a family Chinese restaurant. I will try the noodles with fried chicken next time. Gumbo is ok. It's not bad but it's not great either. Is it cheap? It's so so since their combos come with a drink so it won't cost you $20 like the boba place next door for a meal and a drink. Would I go back. I guess so since it's better priced than the over priced taco place nearby. If you want Cajun flavor, this might be it... need to try some of their other more Cajun style food. It always comes freshly made, hot and crispy. As someone who hates left overs, it's just enough food and relatively budget friendly (for what I get, $12!!) compared to other places in davis. And don't get me started on the lemonade. Half the price of boba places ($3!!) and the lycee lemonade is incredible. Ordered through door dash last week, finally getting a chance to finish my review. I got an order of the Cajun popcorn chicken and an order of the gumbo and rice. My order was accepted within the minute and I actually got my order pretty fast. The popcorn chicken was AMAZING. The gumbo was pretty good too, even the rice was nice and soft/sticky. This is by far the worst service and food I've ever experienced in my life....first and foremost I had to order my food on a janky kiosk machine that had the nerve to automatically recommend a 15% tip What exactly am I tipping for?? What was amazing was that they were super Covid friendly. A lot of self serve to avoid contact + I love how they assumed we were tech savvy to do it ourselves. Food was delicious. You can see that I replated it at home with some brown rice to make the picture more yelp worthy haha. The salt & pepper calamari was very good. Surprisingly still crispy even after the drive home. Typically I don't like creamy sauces but the sauce it came with complemented the dish well. The egg tarts were okay.The egg custard was very tasty. The puff pastry was still crispy even though I got them at the end of the day (7pm). Though, the puff pastry did have a hint of fry oil. Maybe they were prepping the puff pastry next to the deep fryer? I guess that's what I get for ordering pastries from a seafood restaurant though. The soy milk is made in house and was very fresh. Past by this place so many times and finally got a chance to come in. Came on a Thursday evening for dinner and it was pretty mellow. Service was order first then sit down, and the place was pretty tidy. The seafood boil price wasn't too bad, but makes me wish boiling crab was still around. The mussel was good, but the shrimp was a bit over boiled. Crawfish is nice, but I've had better. The garlic bread was bomb though - works really well to wrap up the broth at the bottom of the boil. The crawfish were all black and the shrimp tasted overcooked. The restaurant had nobody in there and the ambiance felt very odd. I'd say this is above average popcorn chicken, would be better if they provided a dipping sauce and a lemon wedge. Fujian Fried Rice: A This dish was actually very tasty. It's not conventional fried rice but rather steamed white rice topped with a brown sauce stir fry containing shrimp, chicken, mushroom, and peas. The sauce has a very intense seafood/mushroom umami flavor which tasted great. House Stir Fried Egg Noodles: C Nothing special about this dish, as it was quite bland. Some sauce or additional seasoning is much needed. Portions are alright and fair for the prices. There are a million things on the menu so it's going to be very hit and miss. I feel like you can find some really delicious food here if you know what to order. Most of the poor reviews I've seen complain about the cajun seafood price/portion. I remember seeing this new place pop out of nowhere when I came back from Winter break and for a long time I was curious about the food. The other day, I finally gave in. The inside is pretty nice and spacious. Modern and clean. The menu is interesting, it seems like a sort of Asian fusion? I wanted to get something similar to chow mein so the girl who was helping suggested egg noodles and to stir fry. I got that with the gravy and fried tofu (with Mongolian sauce). It came out and I was surprised it was like separate, side by side. But not a big deal, just mix it up. I added some sriracha and it was yummy. I feel like I got a hefty portion all for $10 (I also bought the soup of the day) One star is docked off because the "soup of the day" was the egg drop with spinach but it was super lukewarm and almost cold :( It cost extra so it was a bummer to not really enjoy it. I got a "build your own" with flat noodles, chicken, and garlic sauce. Interestingly, they only put sauce on half my noodles which ended up being good because the garlic sauce was a tiny bit spicy and it was nice to have some plain noodles as well. For $1, you can update your entree to "a meal" which includes a drink and soup. The soup was odded- it tasted like yummy plain broth, but it was a grey color that was very offputting. I'd like to come back and try some of the more cajun items on their menu. New places are always working out the kinks in terms of service, and Cajun Feast was no exception. This new 'cajun' place in Davis is definitely interesting. If you're looking for lots of amazing cajun style food like from Louisiana - this isn't the place you'd want to go as the name is a bit misleading. Cajun Feast is actually much more an Asian/Chinese restaurant with only a portion of their menu offering cajun cuisine. The cajun part of the menu offers sea food similarly to restaurants that serve up their items in plastic bags. But rather than doing it that way, the food is presented in bowls and dishes for a more classy look. On my visit, I didn't go this route for my food order - but be warned that their smaller combo is truly only meant for one person, and that it is smaller than you may initially think. The other part of the menu lets you customize dishes to your liking. These dishes include things like mapo tofu, Singapore noodles, and other dishes that you'd typically find at Hong Kong style cafes. There is quite a bit of customizability here. You can add a buck to some of their combos to get a drink and soup to go with the meal. I found the service to be nice and friendly - which I appreciated. I overheard a waitress explaining how their menu works as it can be a bit complicated to a table behind us. Besides being a bit confusing, Cajun Feast is an ok option near the campus of UC Davis. I've been here twice within a week and from my experience, I'd come again. Both times we were seated quickly Pro tip: the Cajun $20 combo is not worth your money. Save that $20 for other dishes like the honey walnut prawns or the garlic noodles. As many other people have pointed out, the portion of the Cajun combo is small. You're better off going to a real Cajun place. The meals on the far right side of the laminated menu are WORTH IT! Sure it's not the absolute cheapest but they're pretty close to that AND they are close to campus. The chicken with house sauce was delicious. Okay, they're no longer good quality. Got the typical Seafood combo #1 $45 + $34 snow crab Hell Spicy. I drove an hour to get some fresh seafood and to my disappointment, they're frozen and no longer fresh. I make my seafood boils at home and I know what frozen tastes like. The corn was a mini corn cob compared to last time, but it's frozen and it was still cold when served. Crawfish is frozen, snow crab is frozen, frozen corn, basically everything. They used baby potatoes instead of halves. This place always didn't have alot of people coming in, but I came back because their seafood was fresh. The staff is fluent in english, I think I heard mandarin and Cantonese too. They welcomed us, sat us down and offered hot tea or water. FOOD: Not being super hungry, we ordered 1 fries (garlic) and 1 calamari ( cajun). The fries were good, more of a taiwanese styled fried garlic with French fries - not too thick, not super crispy and not soggy. The calamari had a fluffy coating, but was a little unevenly salted- def not spicy. The portions were decent for people not starving, but it seems the set meals are abundant. We didn't have the issue of a long wait. If you seat inside, you're able to order by the QR code on the stand that's provided with the table. Plenty of outside table seating that were decently clean. There's a daily value meal that's advertised on their chalkboard sign in the front. Don't think price is reflected when ordering online, so would have to order in-person. There's self-serve water stations inside and outside the store. She frequently refilled the outside water station with ice and water, which is much appreciated, given the heat! There's a bin for dirty dishes on the bottom of that water station cart. I ordered a stir-fried flat noodle with BBQ pork and the house special sauce. It was OK. It was quite light and crunchy though so that's a definite plus. For the price, it was ok. The fish fillet in cream corn sauce was decently good. The sauce was thick and had good flavor. The actual fillets were nicely battered and quite crunchy, which is very important in this type of dish. I also appreciated that the fish didn't have a fishy smell or after taste. The rice serving was HUGE. Good thing or bad thing, that's up to you. Overall: For the price, I'd buy again but not often. I think this dish was $12-$14? Now... my nephew's dish: The Cajun Chicken (which was in bold lettering on the menu), was actually pretty horrible. This was the biggest let down of any dish/restaurant we have tried in the last 2 months (and we go to a different place every Wednesday). This dish needs to be revamped ASAP. It was VERY DRY, tough, and most of all, flavorless. There was "Cajun" spices all over the chicken, but it did nothing to help the dish. Served with a huge heaping of rice doused in a dark soy sauce was pretty lazy. For the price (over $12 I believe), there should have been a complete sauce that could compliment the chicken. The whole dish was dry, dry, and dry and the presentation was not very pleasing either. Would NOT try this again...and it actually has turned my nephew off from coming here again. Dessert: We tried the Dan Tat. It looked very very nice. The custard was bright and inviting. For $2.50 each, I was hoping that it would be the saving grace of the visit. Unfortunately, it was average to subpar. The custard had ok texture, but no flavor. The crust was thick, flavorless, kinda oily, and not flaky. It was disappointing. My friend (Who we randomly saw there...says he comes to this restaurant every day and it's his favorite), let us try some of his salted fish. From what I tasted and what my nephew tasted, it was ok. I'll have to try it again next time. Positives: * I did really enjoy that they give you a bowl of soup before your meal. It was pretty good soup as well. * The environment was nice and inviting Overall: 3-3.5 out of 5 Stars Suggestions: Bolder flavors and more spices. Cajun food is all about spices and big flavors. I really appreciate that the owner reached out to fix their mistake. I went and got the real Combo 2 this time! I am pretty satisfied with Combo 2. The Feast Combo #2 includes 1/2 lb of shrimp (we got 7 shrimps), 1/2 lb clam (we got 10 clams), 1/2 lb king crab ( we got 1 leg and 1 king crab claw), 2 pc sausage, 1 pc corn, 2 pc potato for $30. We got it with their Cajun sauce - mild spicy. The flavors were really good. The mild for the cajun was a bit more spicer than I expected for mild. If you're expecting the Vietnamese-Cajun style of Hot N Juicy, Kickin' Crab, and Boiling Crab, this isn't it!! Not even close. If you're expecting Louisiana Cajun, this isn't it either! The HK style is alright, if your expectations are different. I got their House Special, but it's watery, sweet, and nothing in between. I got medium and hell spicy. No flavor. They throw in a lot of garlic, but can't taste it either. Can't taste any other Cajun flavors. Go here if you're local, but BC might be worth the 25 minute drive out. I picked this spot after checking out their menu while in Davis, my teen's college. They are a combo Chinese food and seafood boil place. We got 3 Chinese plates and they were quite good (see photos). The portion size was good. Prices were fair.
