Starter: grilled provolone with chimichurri sauce, sweet potato and grilled asparagus
    JM H.

Traditional Brazilian BBQ with friendly staff and easy cocktail menu plus more. The restaurant offers 14 different meat cuts. Our favorite was the grilled pineapple. Atmosphere: lively Food: well portioned Brazilian BBQ cuts and many starters Bar: decent selection of traditional bar fare. Small cocktail offerings.

Wow what a major disappointment! I have never given a bad review of a Brazilian rodizio style steak…read morehouse. Viva is a mess the minute you walk in. Playing their music really loud and I'm deaf as hell so when I say loud I mean loud. Or 20 min wait ended up being 45 min even though there were lots of empty tables that needed to be cleaned. Once we were sat it was 18 mins before any server came over to ask about drinks. The salad bar area was in disarray. Options looked like bad cafeteria food. Now the meats. Can you say over cooked! , rubbery, dry and no flavor! The picana was almost un eatable. Seriously don't know how this place stays open. It's a far cry from a real churrascaria Thumbs down!

In a word: meh. I…read morehad been looking forward to visiting Viva Brazil for ages after hearing so many good things about it, yet I have to say I was pretty underwhelmed. We had a table booked for 7:30, and we arrived about 10 minutes early. The staff asked us to take a seat in the bar area and we would be escorted to our table shortly. We then waited 15 minutes for someone to take our drinks orders, and another 5 for us to be taken to our table so we weren't actually seated until 7:40. Not a great start. A member of staff came over and explained the procedure: staff would come round with the different cuts of meat for us to try, it was all you can eat and when you can't eat any more, you flip a sign so they know to stop bringing you food. I headed over to the 'salad' bar to grab some sides, but most of the sides were stews, risottos and quite heavy dishes. I tried some of the pork stew, which was lovely, and grabbed some traditional Brazilian cheese rolls which were so moreish. There are 15 different meats to try, and we were determined to sample every one. We had been told that the meat was served medium rare, but I found that most of the beef either came totally rare, or very well done. There was no inbetween. The roast gammon was probably my favourite - it was salty, smokey and delicious. I wasn't really wowed by any of the other meats, although I didn't sample the Chicken Hearts - that was a bit much for me! For the full rodizio, which includes the salad bar and all the meat, it cost £24.95 per person. It's fair that by the end of it, you are ridiculously full and there is a novelty element to the meat being carved right at your table, but it seemed a bit much to me. The staff were very chatty and friendly, and often checked which meats you hadn't tried yet so they could get them over to you, I just found it all a bit lack-lustre. I don't think I would go rushing back, but I'm glad I experienced it.

The bar staff were fast serving and the drinks were reasonably priced too. The club area opens at 11pm and by this time the bar area was very busy! We weren't as impressed with the basement club area which was mostly concrete walls which were spray painted with pictures. Because of the concrete, the walls and ceiling were "sweaty" and literally dripping on you. The music and atmosphere were great but we just couldn't get comfortable as it was a long walk through the crowd to the bar. Also to get to the smoking area you need to fight through the crowded club, then all the way through the bar upstairs also, despite there being another staircase leading directly outside (this was only used for people entering the club). Would go here again but we still prefer El Barrio!

There's also a £1 cloakroom charge, so that's £6 out of your pocket before any drinks. The place is fun though. It's a nice crowd creating a good atmosphere, and a lot of excellent latin beats to dance to. Boteco also serves as a restaurant and bar during the day, with good lunch specials, and cheaper drinks during the week. Well worth a visit.

I came here with friends, after attending a film screening at GMAC (Glasgow Media Access Centre), across the road. Fortunately my friend had reserved a table for fifteen. We had three tables pushed together but it was high stools. It was quite tight and some folk couldn't use the stools, but we managed to get a normal chairs and table and we made it work. I unfortunately was driving. Boo!!! I know, right?! So I stuck with the soft drinks. Unfortunately their draft Pepsi was a bit watery but they had cans available. The cocktails looked amazing and some of my friends were really enjoying them. Definitely, next time!!! The band got themselves ready and then they had the place jumping. It already is quite a lively place, so don't come here looking for a quiet date night. The band played pop classics with a Brazilian twist. There was a small area for dancing. So this time, rather dodging it on the way out, I was one of those flang, flung persons, flinging themselves about the place. Remember, I was completely sober. Haha!! It was so much fun. Later on we had a male and a female dancer come out in full traditional Brazilian bling and feathers. It was brilliant to watch and we just joined in, dancing along with them. Overall it was a brilliant atmosphere, lively and a guaranteed fun night out. I do hope I get the chance to try the menu the next time.

The restaurant itself was quite nice. It's right in the heart of Glasgow just down the streets from all the shops and bars. Staffs were all welcoming which is a major priorities at restaurants. Drink wise, it was a full bar so anything you would like they had. Started off with 2 margaritas which was quite nice. And for starters, chicken katsu which you would never see on the menu at a traditional Mexican restaurant. It was quite nice, good crunch and nicely battered. For entrees, still odd but the katsu dinner served with rice in a sauce with scallions garnish. It was quite tasty to say. Also, the fajitas platter which was ok. Nothing major to rave about but it was good. It wasn't sizzling on a skillet how the states serves it. The way it was presented was meat on one tray, another tray had the sides of sauce of sour cream, salsa and guacamole. And the last was the tortillas. Portions of meat and grilled veggies were very skimpy. Other dishes that were ordered from our group was a taco platter which came as a build your own tacos. Three different meats, tortillas and the condiments. Even some of the starters had nothing to do with Mexican food. I guess you have to add traditional items at different restaurants to please everyone. Not saying I'm a connoisseur of Mexican food but having loads throughout Mexico and the states, it was just ok. I can say I finally tried it.

I ordered the sirloin medium rare, and the steak came out a rare, almost raw. it was also under seasoned. my husband ordered the prawns with ribeye, and while his steak was cooked well, it was not seasoned well. both steaks were very bland. the bernaise sauce that came with his meal was more the consistency of a compound butter, rather than a sauce. to top it all off, we noticed a mouse Crawling through the dining room. we did notify our server, and it seemed like the staff did not do much if anything in regards to removing the mouse from the restaurant, and blamed it on the renovations to the hotel. First impressions walking in, is that I'm expecting a fine dining experience with front of house ushering us to our table like VIPs (nice!). Considering the online booking was showing full until the end of December, I was really quite surprised that there were only 4 other tables dining during the evening. Was not busy in the slightest. Maybe folk are still yet to hear about Marco coming to town? Relatively decent selection of mains, but felt the starters were limited in terms of lightness and variety. Opted for fishcakes and calamari and a chateaubriand for mains, that came with two portions of chunky chips, onion rings and two sides for £75. Not a bad price given the sides included. New Zealand Pinot Noir for the poison and it was spot on! Our server was lovely and friendly (or servers should I say over the course of the evening!). Didn't wait long for anything & the timing was good between courses. The starters however, were nothing special and for £7/8 each, I would have wanted to be wowed. Calamari was bog standard and average, whilst the fish cakes I could have mistaken for good quality frozen ones. Chateaubriand though, was DELICIOUS. Having had The Butchershop and various others over the years, this is the finest one yet. So much meat, that I took some back for a piece the following day! Deliberately kept room for dessert & opted for the £11.95 sharing plate of fresh strawberries, rice pudding, chocolate brownie, sticky toffee, vanilla ice cream and fruit tartlets. (PHEW!). All miniature sizes and great value to try out all the desserts. Clear winner though was the sticky toffee, hands down. You could say we went a little all out here on the most expensive things on the menu and you'd be correct at an eye whopping £145 bill (service charge is already included). You could however, easily eat here for £20-40 per head. Why no 4 or 5 stars you ask? Well... Pictures of Marco himself adorned every square inch of the walls as part of his 'branding'. Frankly, I don't want to see the ego of a chef emblazoned everywhere I look sitting down. The food should always do the talking. Lastly, the Chateaubriand was the only stand out dish we had. Out of three courses, I can't give it more based on that. Service though, was lovely & we didn't feel rushed. Great banter and warm friendly staff, can't ask for more than that. You Gotta Eat Here (after payday!) - For Sure!! :-D
