    Lamb spare ribs! Delicious!!!
    Jurgen D.

Rodi to me feels like what I would expect to find if I was given a really good Turkish home cooked meal. There certainly no pretence to the food here its good honest and very tasty. For my starter I went for the Sucuk - a heavily spiced beef sausage that was served with salad. One thing you notice in this place is the intoxicating wafts coming from the grill - having been hungry on arrival by the time my starter arrived I was pretty much drooling. The sausage was delicious, served on a small salad and with some bread on the table it didn't need anything else. This was a sausage celebration. Huzzah to the humble banger! For my main I opted for the lamb spare ribs, served with rice and pida ( a really nice flatbread) as well as the various salads they brought to the table. Of the salads I really liked the charred onions with pomegranate - as Blythe.R said they are intense....I like intense. The ribs were meaty, flavoursome and plentiful....basically my ideal kind of plate. A few extra napkins would have been handy but I demolished the ribs in records time with a big smile on my face. Always a good sign. All in all this is a surprising gem of a place! Rodi comes highly JD Recommended!

I recently visited Rodi with my Yelp friends for a relaxing evening dinner. Rodi is located within a 5 min walk from Haymarket Railway Station, up Morrison Street.. The interior is decorated with bright colours and there is one room with plenty of space for larger parties. They have a BYOB theme. As a starter I ordered the Hummus with was served with a few slices of cucumber and an olive and not to mention the tasty bread. Personally I found the Humus a bit bland, but if you want to spice it up you can add some salt and pepper or other....... Then came the main with plenty of salad (carrots, leaves, reddish..) and Turkish bread served on the side. I went for a vegetarian Guvec topped with Feta cheese. The food comes slightly burned, which intenses the flavour. Very tasty. I heard that this is their trademark. Even our dessert, rice pudding, had a burned surface. The restaurant is kept clean and the staff was very polite. Prices for the meals are affordable.

My bedroom when I was a young teen was blue and orange - walls, ceiling and carpet all deep royal blue; all furniture, skirting boards and door and window frames were the brightest bright orange. So in a way, walking into the orangey warmth of Rodi and enjoying its shots of deep blue felt a little bit like coming home. The effect was enhanced by the friendly welcome of the staff, and of course of the lovely Yelpers gathered around the table. It felt like a family dinner in somebody's vibrant, exotic home. Ahhh and what a dinner. The sucuk starter was blissful - chunks of spicy sausage on fresh crispy lettuce - I could eat that any day of the week and be completely happy. My main, a beautiful chicken affair, was tender, succulent, flavoursome and seriously bountiful. My mighty appetite faltered and failed me in the face of such plenty... But not so much as to eschew the offer of rice pudding for dessert. You all know about compartments, right? How the stomach totally has a savoury compartment and a pudding compartment? Well that's what was going on here. I was completely full in my main compartment but plenty of room for a bit of pudding. The rice pudding surprised me as it was cold - but I liked it a lot; rich and creamy, it was a lovely new way for me to try it. The top was burnt - I think it was meant to be that way and I could see how it was supposed to work, to give a sharper kick to the sweet pudding, but it didn't quite go, for me. I ended up scooping out from underneath. Aside from the front door, which had a tendency to stick open and let in the cold when someone entered or exited and meant that the staff frequently had to scoot over and close it (something they were always very prompt in doing) the restaurant is a lovely place. I imagine its location opposite the EICC will mean it's rarely short of business, especially in August. And if that means that Rodi continues for a long time to come, that can only be a good thing, because I definitely want to come back. Lots of times.

I love this style of food anyway but this was an unexpected find. The restaurant doesn't look much from outside bit the staff were really welcoming and friendly. The waiter was able to recommend which dish would be best for me and was right and remembered to follow up at the end which was nice. We ordered a selection of starters between 5 of us and they threw in an extra one for free which was really nice. The bread that came with them was really fresh and tasty as well. For the mains we had a selection of skewers and casserole and all the food was really tasty. The portions were also a good size so no one (and there were some big guys) were left hungry. Nice decor as well and all reasonably priced. I will definitely be going back.

We went to Rodi based off TripAdvisor recommendations, we were in the mood for some tasty Turkish cuisine and decided to try it out. The place is cosy and decorated with pretty lanterns, it was a little packed when we arrived but nothing out of the ordinary for Edinburgh on a Saturday evening. We had starters of grilled halloumi and tzatki sauce, they were delicious we practically inhaled it. I had the tavuk sis and the PIC had kuzu guvec. Perfect portions as we didn't feel overly stuffed, our waiter was very kind and offered us some tips about the city for our visit. Definitely enjoyed our meals down to the last bite, we would like to return to try more dishes one day. PS. Everyone around us ordered by the bottle not the glass for wine...it's cheaper that way.

In case you're skeptical, they often have samples--after which, resistance is futile. I've now visited just twice and wish I could go more often. Not only does the barbecue smell alluring, look great, and taste wonderful, but Toby also said what any great pit-master should: "We're still experimenting." Oh, to be a test subject for all those experiments. Food (4.5): Excellent applewood-smoked pulled pork sandwiches (£4) made with local ingredients. Personally, I'd suggest skipping the (tasty) chili jam, which I think over-powers the smoke and pork. The ribs (a new experiment) were great--moist and tender with a good bark (no mean feat)--though I personally would've liked a little more of a smoke ring and a tad more of the delicious barbecue sauce. If Toby starts making oak- or mesquite-smoked brisket, I'll have to initiate a weekly pilgrimage to Edinburgh. People (5): Great people; great service. They know barbecue and will sell you a smoker (or maybe a pit). They're also happy to talk shop... though maybe not to divulge secret ingredients. Side note: I grew up in Texas and have a high bar for barbecue. If you're an aficionado, this probably won't be the best you've ever had, but it's very good and it's certainly the best we've had in Britain. Also, they seem to be aiming to master a range of barbecues. (Right now, it seems mostly NC-style.) It's absolutely worth a visit now, and I'd really love to see what they'll have after a couple more years of experimentation. P.S. I can't believe they keep it up through the Scottish winter. That's dedication.

We had found this place after asking an unsuspecting passerby on the street on recommendations for dinner, perhaps thinking that the local patrons will take us to stories untold. Or perhaps my fingers would have froze if I had taken them out to Yelp. Upon waddling up to the second floor of the building where Shebeen is located, the strong savory smells of hearty slabs of meat enveloped and ensnared us. My dad was dead set upon eating here. The only problem was that the restaurant was entirely booked! (Go make reservations if you don't want to wait!) The waitress told us that we would have to wait about 30 minutes for a table to clear. And so we waited. Thank goodness the locals showed us mercy and a table cleared up a bit earlier than expected. I was starving at this point. But nothing could have prepared me for the onslaught that would come ahead. I didn't particularly feel like digging into a piece of steak, so I ended up ordering a burger. My parents got steak, although they were disappointed that the place didn't serve cheetah and lion meat. (Those were the names of the different sizes of the steaks.) Then came more waiting. It felt like almost an eternity as we watched everyone else vigorously tear into their entrees like a pride of lions feasting on a kill. My burger was enormous! And so were their steaks. The smallest size would definitely be enough for any normal person's appetite. I could end up only consuming half of my burger in the end, not that it wasn't absolutely delicious. The sheer amount of pulled pork on top of the patty seemed excessive, but hey I guess this place is a meat lover's haven. It also came with some potato wedges and a giant portobello mushroom! The mushroom was the perfect texture. However, it was smothered with a mountain of garlic. Good thing I wasn't on a date.

The staff were friendly enough though and we went on with picking our mains and sides. I had a burger and shared poutine & Mac n cheese. The food was slightly disappointing to be honest. The portions on everything were very small in size and I don't feel like we got value for money at all. The poutine was under cooked and the sauce was to runny for my taste. The Mac was ok, but it was very very plain. The burger was average, but gone in two bites. (OK Maybe three) All in the food was pretty meehhhh and a bit disappointing. As a meat eater I approve of this notion (until we have too many of them by which point the next craze will be upon us anyway). And so to Smoak, once of Pivo Pivo, now with it's own location on Royal Exchange Square. It's a small space, and we were sitting in the back where room is a little on the tight side. We had pre-ordered to avoid the lunchtime rush and so I already knew that I would be having the Dirty Harry. After being shown to our table, drinks were ordered and delivered and the food arrived promptly after that. I hadn't ordered any chips or sides with mine (in a vague effort to be healthy) so when it was placed in front of me it did look a little on the small side as it was on a plate clearly made to hold some fries (which most of my colleagues had). An odd thing to note, perhaps, but presentation is everything right? Well of course it's not. Taste is everything! The Dirty Harry - a venison hot dog, topped with BBQ pulled pork, cheese and fried onions, all served in a brioche style hot dog bun - looked pretty average when it arrived and did little to prove me wrong. The fried onions scattered on the top were more charred and crispy than fried and so small all the flavour was gone, so that was a bit of a disappointment. The first bite of the hot dog proved promising, the flavour of the venison hot dog was there, the cheese wasn't overpowering, and the little kick of sweetness from the pulled pork helped, although I'm not sure the brioche bun was the best idea, making the entire thing a little on the sweet side. However by the last few bites I was pretty underwhelmed and left with just a bun that was pretty dry, and a some of the venison hot dog, I ended up adding some ketchup just to make it easier to eat. Price wise paying just short of £10 for a pretty average hotdog and a ginger beer didn't feel like value for money. My whelmed remains undered and I don't see me hurrying back to Smoak any time soon. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't all that special
