I've been back maybe 30 times (yes that is not an exaggeration) since the first review and the service, food and overall experience has never been less than 5 stars. There are about only 3 places I eat in Edinburgh. Scran and Scallie (they allow dogs), Imperial Palace (dim sum cravings) and here at Ola Kala. My standard order now is maybe the feta cheese dip, a pita, the potatoes with kefalortiri, main course of gyros and a green greek coke. Oh also you have to try the square baklava. Is made with walnuts and cinnamon. Some of the best I have ever tried. Also they have tables outside for summer. TLDR - Still the best kebab (gyros) in Edinburgh if not Scotland. read more

Very friendly and welcoming staff, along with some great Greek food! The Greek salad was very good, and so was the Greek platter. The platter was very big, enough for 2 people, and the salad was good as well. They've won many awards, and not without reason. read more

Wonderful meals, the Greek salad was fantastic, the tzatziki was the best I've ever had, and the baklava was outstanding!

I have NEVER had Greek food as good as this! The service was amazing. We sat down, ordered, and got our food within minutes. We also ordered two Greek colas and the most delicious baklava ever. The restaurant was clean and had great music playing and employees were so kind and made the experience that much better. So- our last night in Edinburgh, we were flying out the next morning, and we had walked a zillion miles during the day. We wanted a quick but good dinner, and we did not want to walk far to get it; found Ola Kala on Yelp, a couple of blocks from our hotel, and we went for it. So, the place is basically a dive, but in a good way. Formica tables, no AC, the owner seems to be the waiter, host, and whatever else. Lovely, gracious man. We had some drinks (nothing fancy- the wine list was "red" and "white", but the food was great, we shared an app (can't remember what it was, but it was very large and delicious ) and gyro platters. Very good, simple Greek style fare, well prepared. Overall a great experience, the owner is welcoming and definitely hands-on, good food, simple vibe. read more

I stopped in for a quick lunch and got the salmon wrap which was tasty! I'm not sure if there was a language barrier but the owner seemed to not understand what I wanted and had another employee come over to me and I had to explain to him a couple times (even though the item was on the menu). It only took 15 minutes for my food to be ready and it was delicious! The only thing I didn't like was that it came with a lot of tomatoes on it which I don't love (and it didn't say this on the menu or else I would have gotten it without them). Best Greek food I have ever had! We dined here for dinner twice during our vacation and it was the best food we found in Edinburgh. Kind and lighthearted manger/owner and staff who always warmly welcomed us and showed us gracious hospitality. The staff were only outshined by the delicious food, this place is one in a million. Really solid Greek food close to the tourist area of Edinburgh. Wife and I shared a halloumi and feta platter with a few different dips (babaganoush, whipped spicy feta, tzatziki) and pita and it was excellent. We both got gyros for dinner, one pork and one chicken. Both great, but I'd favor the chicken as I think it just stood out more. I only wish they did lamb gyros as well because I think it would come out great in their hands. The owner (I think he was the owner) was super nice and came over to chat a couple times. We had a delightful meal at Ola Kala. We ordered the big plate with the extra grilled veggies and a side salad and it was plenty for the three of us. The food was very tasty, the atmosphere very casual, and the service superb. While in Edinburgh for a conference, we stopped in to Ola Kala, and it was an exceptional experience. There were five of us, which a large group for the small physical space (we called ahead). The food was incredible ... I got the kababs and took the grilled cheese that was offered along with it. The kababs were among the best I have had, if not the best. We also had wine, which was quite good as well. While the owner (I assume) clearly runs the kitchen very effectively while also serving as front of house, it was his engagement with us (and others) that turned a very good meal into an experience to be remembered!! An original Greek souvlaki (pork skewer) and mpifteki (beef mince meat with herbs)? With home-made fries? Tzatziki (garlic yoghurt salad) and other Greek dishes? And some original Greek soft drinks and the famous Greek pitta bread? Oh yes!!! I was looking forward to trying out this place! Things I wasn't impressed with: on the souvlaki portion (three pork skeweres, pitta bread, some chopped tomatoes and onions along with chips) there was no tzatziki! Come on, you guys are all Greek in there and you should now that these things go together. No alcohol served, at least for now. On my 2nd visit the service was good and punctual, around 6-7 people working in it. It's not an actual restaurant, it's closer to a kebab place I would say, but believe me, you need to try it (at least once!). Now about my first visit... Well, it was on the 2nd day they opened, three people only working there, people standing in the queue waiting to order, and giving up after 15 minutes or so. I was lucky enough to find a sit, while my persistent friend was standing right on the cashier to give an order: it took 35 mins to just give the order and another 15 mins to be served!!! We were not happy at all, but we were hungry and wanted badly to try their food. Will I go back? Yes, assuming there's no big queue!! read more

I don't understand how this place has such a high rating. Staff were nice but the food was well below par. We booth has gyros and the main take away was that the chips were frozen (undercooked) and unseasoned - the main flavours were onion and oregano. This is a takeaway with a couple of internal tables, DO NOT visit if you're wanting a Greek restaurant. Fairly priced for what it was. read more

Chicken Souvlaki tasted mediocre with barely any seasoning. Chicken Gyros were just OK. Service and prices were all OK as well.

Their food is still good and authentic, but I have to pay extra for tzatziki (yougurt sauce) in my gyros. Given the prices of the place they should include it like every greek place does or even raise the price of it but not charge us an extra for it, that's a joke (and a bad one). At least they fixed the option to add tzatziki sauce in the gyros ithrough online delivery (via deliveroo), because initially we had to call them each time to add it at the order and the staff was giving us attitude because the charge had already been made online (not our fault though.) read more

For those of you who have tried Greek grill of any kind I'm sure you'll find this at the top side of quality selections! All meat portions are as clean as they can get prepared with extra attention which is made obvious with the first bite. I am Greek and have tried similar grills throughout Greece and Edinburgh and I can tell you right now that Ola Kala is: - one of the top "kebab" shops in the city (if not the top) - pure taste well presented and delicious deserts from northern Greece to follow up. read more

Traveling from Los Angeles. We found this most amazing Greek restaurant. The service was superb. But, the food was even better than that. The Chicken greek salad, the Chicken gyros and the wine were so amazing that we ate there multiple times during our 2 night stay. The owner and his family were so friendly and efficient.
