Upon arrival from West Chester, Pa on 3/21/2023, I discovered propane furnace at our Lewes location…read morewas not working. Called 302-945-4358, Long Neck Plumbing and Heating, (license # 2006205563) and spoke to the owner Mike DelCampo. He came out and decision was made to replace the furnace for $5000 dollars. The next day 2 employees arrived with a new furnace and replaced the old one. The new one seemed to be working when they left. The new heater was running very little from April until early November because of the summer and fall seasons. Set the thermostat at 45 degrees for the winter. On my next visit on 4/16/24 noticed there was a thin layer of soot throughout the kitchen and the heater was making a noticeable clicking sound. Inspected the flap used to check the flame, and a flame shot out similar to that of a blow torch. Shut the heater down. I tried to call Long Neck Plumbing twice, at the advertised number, got a voice stating this is Mike; leave a message, we will get back to you. I then called our propane provider who sent out a technician who opened the front cover and stated that I needed to call our installer. He pointed out a nozzle taped to the front of the unit that should have been installed to convert the unit from natural gas to propane. He also warned that the omission had created an extreme risk of fire and the prevalence of the soot. My wife did notify a lady who answered the phone at Long Neck of the situation and the risk their installers created. The lady at Long Neck stated that it was no longer their responsibility but would try to reach one the the employees who did the installation who no longer works for the company. As of this date we have heard nothing from Long Neck Plumbing. Currently the heater is unsafe to use, still needs to be converted from natural gas to propane, needs to be cleaned due to soot build up, and the heat exchanger needs to be checked for cracking, which may cause the furnace to need replacement. At this point I have spent $5000 dollars, have no workable heater, and will need a repair company to follow up. Choosing this company is certainly a personal decision, but my decision has been a disaster, and the lack of responsibility that Long Neck Plumbing has assumed is irresponsible at best.
