Bay Ridge continues its steep decline in the food scene with this cheesesteak wannabe restaurant…read more I have been to Philadelphia and had my fair share of cheesesteaks there. Some really good, some not so good, most somewhere in between. This one falls closer to the second option, and not just because this cash only joint (boo...) charges $13 for one, and it is pretty small. For an extra $9, you get fries and a drink. I took the deal, not realizing the fries are your traditional "bowling alley fries". I took one bite and threw the rest away. $9 extra wasted away. As for the steak itself, it is quite hit or miss. They also try to jazz it up to the point where it can be completely unrecognizable if you wish. No thanks. A good steak is just ribeye steak and a choice of three cheeses, Cheez Whiz, White American, or Provolone. Stop the nonsense with Yellow American. Also, the roll should be strictly Amoroso. I did not see that here. I already deduct two stars for lack of authenticity. The final star deduction comes in the form of an inconsistent steak. Throughout the experience, I was getting different bites each time I took a bite. Some bites were really good, others were flat. The steak is also cooked with far too much salt for my liking. I also felt the customer service was flat too. There was no knowledge of the menu items except for the sesame roll. The roll is also too chewy for this kind of sandwich. They also serve pizza, but it does not make any sense to me why. Honestly, it did not look good in the display case when I saw it. I am taking it off my favorites and will not be returning. Not every cheesesteak has to be a John's Roast Pork or a Tony Luke's, but a little more effort could put this little hole in the wall joint in Bay Ridge closer to them.

I'm in NYC for business and for some reason craving a cheesesteak. I searched best cheesesteaks in…read moreNYC and Olde City was one of three places that came up. Their reputation was well earned. I got the authentic cheesesteaks with cooper sharp American and cooper sharp pepper American along with onions and sweet peppers and a side of Old Bay fries at the bartender's recommendation. The roll was fresh baked with a crispy out shell and soft and fluffy center, which held all the flavors. All of the ingredients were fresh, with meat pouring out of the sandwich and served piping hot. I ate every last bite despite being too full to do so. The bartender was awesome to everyone!! I requested a soda water with a lime. He took the time to add fresh lime juice to the drink, knowing that last the taste I ultimately wanted. Club soda with lime is my go to drink and I've never had someone even offer to do that. The decor is Philly sports bar themed as one would expect a cheesesteak restaurant to be but it wasn't over the top. This is best cheesesteak I've ever had that wasn't served under a bridge in Philly.

I ordered delivery via UberEats, so I cannot comment on what the place is like to dine inside of,…read morebut I have walked past it a few times and mistaken it as a typical bar because all you can see from the front windows is a long bar and high chairs. My order arrived accurate and hot. The cheesesteak was double-wrapped in foil and came inside of a brown paper bag with a sticker of the logo on the outside. I got the steak with garlic aioli, provolone, tomatoes & sweet peppers, and no onions. I don't have any complaints except about the texture of the meat. While the bread was a perfectly serviceable soft hero, the meat looked and had a texture more akin to ground meat than sliced ribeye which was odd to me. I enjoyed the cheesesteak and ultimately ate the entire sandwich over two sittings because it's so large and filling, which makes it a great value. Unfortunately the texture of the meat was just off putting, I will likely skip returning here and try someplace else when I'm in the mood for another cheesesteak.

What the heck did I just eat?…read more A taco? A quesadilla? A hamburger? Some moments of reflection in my Lyft ride back home had me thinking many things about what I just ate here. Allow me to put it in perspective, this is gas station food on steroids. Located in Red Hook (and all it takes is to go outside and see you are in Red Hook), this nondescript bodega serves up one heck of a sandwich that will have you thinking, did I just eat that? This is not your ordinary New York bodega, this is the shop of General Ock, who sells various sandwiches in his renowned Ocky Way. So what is the Ocky Way? The Ocky Way is not just a sandwich with lettuce, tomato, and onions, it is also about presentation and style. The sandwich is made loudly with a flair for the dramatic, from the time your food hits the flat top to when it is center cut and put in a clamshell container. What about the food? It really is pretty good! I got the Chopped Cheese the Ocky Way and it was something I really enjoyed. I recommend you get it with the Jamaican Patty as that is what makes the flavors work best. You can also do it with a waffle or pancake or whatever bread you like. All you have to do is scarf it down. You can also put your own toppings on your sandwich if you want for an extra premium à la Farmer in the Deli style. Farmer in the Deli is another well known bodega in Fort Greene, known for finely chopping their meat into a sandwich, one I highly recommend as well. Even after writing this review, I still cannot believe what I ate here. Before I finish this review, I have to say one more thing. Neva neva neva forget to get a drink with your order!

I've eaten MANY Italian heroes all over northern NY & NYC and this has to be the best Ive ever had. This place is well established in the local community and I am sure someone has done a video or segment on TV about this place. The amount of food on a sandwich and the quality of their food is impeccable. No heroes loaded up with tomato and lettuce. Just plenty of the "good stuff". Don't give the prices a 2nd glance as these sandwiches have to weight 4-5 lbs each and a full ( 10"?) hero is plenty for 2 very hungry people. They have over 150 Signature sandwiches named after ( mostly) Italian celebrities. ( Fran Sinatra, Yogi Berra, Sophia Loren, etc) I was very satisfied with these 2: ---#119 EDDIE ARCARDO "Try This Thoroughbred"-- Chicken cutlet, salami, ham, olive oil, basil mix, LIONI FRESH MOZZARELLA, Sun-dried tomatoes, and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar ----#P1 THE ROSANNA SCOTTO "You'll Have A Good Day With This One" Ham, Salami, Pepperoni, Soppressata, Fresh Mozzarella, Roasted Peppers OMG! so loaded, so fresh, amazing bread. Home made roasted peppers, sundried tomatoes, AMAZING mozzarella! Be hungry & GO! Top notch!

The shop has so much character and tons of signs and things to look at while you wait. The menu can feel a little overwhelming at first because they have over 150 hero variations, but that's also part of the fun. I went with a prosciutto and fresh mozzarella hero with all the works. The sandwich was HUGE--I could only finish half--but absolutely delicious and worth the wait. Very old-school, unpretentious Brooklyn spot that clearly knows what it's doing. I'd love to come back and try another sandwich. If you're in the area, definitely stop in, but honestly, even if you're just visiting Brooklyn, it's worth making the trip!
