I was a faithful customer for 6 years until last year. My AC stopped working ,of course it was during summer. They replaced my compressor with an after market part but it still didn't work. He then said maybe it was another problem. I already spent over $1k and wanted a 2nd opinion before spending more money. I brought my car to the dealer and they replaced the same part and my AC worked. The part Fat Joe's installed was useless and I lost $1k! Thank goodness I didn't allow them to continue to explore-change parts and charge me more. I will no longer go there! It's very difficult to find honest mechanics! FYI- It didn't cost much more to go to the dealer! Late review bc my husband said he was going to take my car there today! I said no way! I won't even go there for an inspection. read more

went to Firestone initially for state inspection and was told it would be an hour wait with the inspection taking 30 minutes, even though it now requires less to be done (they said due to the amount of paperwork?). Instead went to fat joes and got right in for a 10 minute inspection! And got to see their cute dog while I waited. Seems like a great, honest business. read more

The other 1 star reviews are completely right about this place. I took in my SUV for a check engine light. Got a code that the throttle body may be failing so took it in for confirmation. They called and said that was indeed the problem. Now I do my own work on changing parts but these guys gave me a ridiculous quote. The part itself is 240$ and they wanted to charge 1,105!! Then they lied by saying that it needed to be programmed. Stay away from here at all cost. You'll be overcharged 4x for simple jobs. Went home and did the job for 300 bucks. read more

My experience with this shop wasn't the best, the parts were priced at 3x the actual value. I ended up paying hoping my vehicle could just run well but it sadly didn't. Took it back several times and the problem wasn't ever fixed after several visits. read more

June 23, 2020 - I came here for a state mandated auto inspection during COVID-19 social distancing, and the inspection was quick, courteous, and the lobby area was comfortable. They gave me some good info about how to register my car in Texas and introduced their canine mascot, Prince, a furry pal who happens to be from my home state of Mississippi. They seem to be the highest rated auto shop in Irving, so I look forward to giving them my business in the future. read more

I'm flying back at 11:20 pm and need to pick it up late I said. Can you put the key under the passenger floor mat and leave it unlocked? Ok no problem hector said. Under the mat? Yes. On the passenger side. Yes, no problem. Be sure to leave it unlocked. Of course. Hector. I'm here. It's midnight. Car is locked. Now I have a $60 cab ride home, will pay another $60 cab ride back to the shop in the morning and will blow up two morning appointments. And I'm wondering what you forgot to do or did wrong on my transmission rebuild. Sad thing is you were recommended highly by Auto Electric Systems. So now they look bad too. Joe, remember when I dropped the car and we ha a specific conversation about you leaving the key for me? Sure you said, no problem you said. Now you have my payment and I'm pretty dam sure you will also have a glib excuse about not risking theft, damage to car, looking out for me, etc. etc. You lose my respect, my trust, my referrals, all future business when make a promise and break it like this. I am disappointed to say, I would NOT recommend Fat Joe's Auto & Transmission Repair. CAUTION: They (1) overcharge and (2) will recommend work that doesn't actually fix the vehicle. My family and I have attempted to use them three times to fix three different vehicles. We like to support local businesses and they are close to our home. Unfortunately, we now know, all three times, we were overcharged and recommended work that did not fix the problem. If you do decide to use them, I would recommend searching the actual price of the part before blindly agreeing to the cost. An employee admitted to me this afternoon that they upcharge on the parts to generate revenue. They get their inventory from a company called NAPA. Most recently, I came to Fat Joe's because my check engine light came on. They determined my upstream and downstream O2 sensors needed to be replaced. Even though they recommend both, they only repaired my upstream sensor. The total cost to repair only the upstream sensor was $443, $69 in labor and $335.29 for the part. When I searched the part on NAPA, the cost ranged from $70-110. Charging over 3 times the cost of the part is excessive. If this would have fixed the problem, I would most likely not even be writing this review. However, two days later, my check engine light came on again. When I went back to Fat Joe's, they ran another test and determined that there was an additional problem(s) which they "kindly" offered to diagnose and fixed for more money! I am unsure why they did not rerun the test to confirm my vehicle was actually fixed before returning it to me the first time. read more

This car shop has the best techs that provide answers right away while giving you the best customer service. I was kept updated Without calling and they are really on top of their game. This spot is A1. I just recently moved to Texas and went in for my state inspection. Was instantly greeted by both the receptionist & i believe the person who did my inspections name was Joe. I felt very welcomed. The waiting area was clean and very comfortable. I just happened to mention that i may have blew a fuse for my cigarette lighter and Joe said he'll take a look at for me . I already had one bad experience with a another auto shop and i was referred here and I'm happy that i was. I was in and out in about 15 minutes and my cigarette lighter was fixed as well.I'll definitely be coming here for all my service needs. read more

I had a good experience with this place. The front differential went out on my truck recently. A very expensive repair. I had done some research to get a sense of how much I would have to pay for it to be replaced. Most places were between $1700 and $1900 bucks. I took it to Fat Joe's and they charged me a few hundred less. It was still an expensive repair at $1550, but cheaper than other places would have charged. I brought my Saturn Ion to Fat Joe's to have my front end looked at for a clunking sound. After paying $39.00 to have it evaluated I was told my transmission needed to be rebuilt at the cost of $2500.00. I declined and took my car to another shop. They found out that my sway bar bushings were bad and there was nothing wrong with my transmission. What a bunch of con artist. Do not take your car here !!! read more

Man, I try not write negative reviews about places, but i just had a crazy experience here. My niece claims these guys are great, so we decided to give them a try. Took my car in as it was leaking water. Fat Joe's tells me I need a radiator and hoses for the whopping good deal of $1800. Jesus, I know it s a Saab, but I could take it to the dealer for less than that! No way Jose (I mean Joe). So I go pay them $40 for the "diagnosis" and take it down the street to Lopez. $365 and a NEW WATER PUMP later, (yes, no radiator) and I'm back on the road again. WTF? read more

I park in the same parking spot every day at work and for some reason I decided to pull up over the concrete curb and yep you guessed it, loosened the front bumper guard. I took my mercedes to fat joes for an ac repair. Not only was it done in a timely matter, but the ac blows colder now then when I originally bought the vehicle. I took my truck in for a transmission rebuild because the price was good, and they offered free towing to get my vehicle to the shop. After picking up the truck, there were bolts sticking out of the transfer case (not fully tightened), the bell housing had apparently been dropped because one place where the inspection cover housing bolts to it had been broken off, and they used some kind of epoxy as a fix. Not only that, but when they reassembled my transfer case (4x4), the gasket was pinched and it was dripping fluid. I took the truck back and explained the problems directly to Joe. He seemed distant, slightly upset, and unbelievably didn't apologize for the issues. He did, however, fix the issues (save for the epoxied bell housing which couldn't be repaired properly) which is why I'm giving him two stars instead of one, but I really wonder if his staff truly know what they are doing. It's been 3.5 years, and I've put approx 20,000 miles on the transmission. It seems to shift hard sometimes, but otherwise has been reliable. read more

When I got there they were in the middle of a download and he communicated perfectly with me to let me know it may take longer than I could wait since I was on lunch. We love Fat Joes. We moved here from California and for the first while we were bringing out vehicles to the nearest firestone. We kept having problems with our newer truck one thing after the other at firestone so we brought it here to joes. Turned out we didn't need what firestone was telling us and it was just something that was loose so they fixed it no charge, they are the nicest people ever!! Family owned shop, very helpful. They have looked over my cetera a few times and it's always fair and they're always helpful with suggestions. We will never take our vehicles anywhere else. The whole shop especially Joey were fabulous. We had car trouble while visiting Dallas over the weekend. I searched for the closest shop near our hotel open on a Sat. They got me in that day and after a couple hours we had our full diagnostics and the car road worthy to return to Austin area. They gave me a complete list with diagnostic codes to get repairs done when we returned home, but the peace mind knowing we would not have engine problems returning home - priceless! Took my vehicle into this place for some major repairs. They screwed up my vehicle. I took it back and told them something was wrong, and they said "It's fine, nothing is wrong". Got to the point I couldn't even drive my vehicle anymore!!! I spent over $2,000 to get my vehicle fixed at this place, and all they did was screw it up and screw me over! Had to end up taking my vehicle to a specialist to get everything fixed that they screwed up and kept telling me "nothing is wrong". RIPPED OFF AND LIED TO. I have had sub-par customer service in my time but straight up lying to my face in order to take my money is a whole different ball game. I took my car in because it was stuttering and then dying when idling, also the check engine light was on. I dropped my car off and when I came to pick it up they told me nothing was wrong with it, except that the gas cap was a little loose. They said the check engine light was not on and they drove it around and around and could not get it to stutter. I was skeptical but if there really was nothing wrong with my car then ultimately thats all I cared about. As I was pulling out of the lot, the check engine light immediately came back on and the car died at the first stop light I stopped at. Also, the mileage was the exact same it was when I dropped the car off so they could not have driven it all over the place as they claimed. They couldnt have driven it around at all because if they had they would have experienced the problem with the car. They clearly just ran their standard diagnostics and when it wasnt an easy, routine fix, they just disregarded the car and then lied to me in order to get my money. They refused to give a refund saying there is nothing they can do. Of course there is something they can do, they just won't. Also the employees were very rude. There were several of them standing in front of the door and they wouldnt move aside to let me leave, I had to squeeze by them, while pushing a stroller with my son in it.
