So there used to be another lumber company in this location but I can't recall the name. Never had…read morean issue with them. So spahn and rose opened up here and a couple years ago, I came in and bought one sheet of wood and they cut it how I needed it. About 6 months ago. I wanted a small chunk of wood to for a project I was doing. The gentlemen who answered the phone said we don't do that here. And hung up the phone. It was an older gentlemen. I didn't really think too much of it and I just went withouy doing the project as it was just for fun. Fast forward to a few months ago and I was redoing my couch, giving some life back into it and I measured the seating area of the couch. I asked my husband to call and he was given the same response "We don't do that here" and my husband was going to ask about custom ordering it but as soon as the guy said we dont do that here he hung up the phone. No goodbye or nothing. So I called and said very calmly and nicely that it was very unprofessional to hang up on someone, and he said if someone gives him attitude, he's going to give it back, my husband said he was very kind about it, and I told the gentlemen that even if a customer has an attitude, it is your job to remain calm and not be unprofessional. At this point, I had had enough of his attitude and I asked for his name because I would be making a complaint, and he said I'm going to do to you what I did to him! And he hung up the phone. I did contact someone from their main office, I believe his name was Ryan. He was very apologetic, and did everything he could to fix the problem. He said that he has had things cut many times before, and that their company is always willing to go out of their way to make a customer happy. Side note: The gentlemen who was rude. I do not believe is a good representation of Spahn and Rose and that he was just a bad seed. Ryan went to the Newton store, and cut it for me personally. Unfortunately because of the verbal abuse, I don't want to conduct any business at that location again. I will have to travel about 30 minutes somewhere else, but I don't mind. I am not sure if I would refer someone there again because I don't know if the problem has been fixed.

The layout of the greenhouse is well-planned and everything is clearly marked, so you always know what section you're in and can visually locate signs for whatever section you seek. If you buy a plant and a pot, they'll pot the plant for you while you wait. (This is a bigger deal than you might think, considering that potting a plant always involves more soil than comes in the original container. If you had to do it yourself and didn't already have a bag of soil at home, you'd need to buy some.) They also have a great selection of all the "little things" you might need, like label sticks to mark what you've planted where, little ceramic worms that test soil dryness, stakes for various climbing plants, and all shapes and sizes of post. Neat selection of garden decor, too. It's a nice big airy space that's a pleasure to explore, and you're bound to find whatever garden-related you might want. Highly recommended.

Some people think it is overpriced, some do not. You can still receive comparative bargains for new items. Today it was two weighted blankets for $20, at least 50% lower than new at Walmart, not sure if that is their norm. I did not buy today. I have not been interested in buying anything there in a while, but I am also finally downsizing and more likely to take items in. Often see used, but retail bedding. I think it is a good place to find items you need for setting up a household. Regardless, twice monthly 50% off days are bargains and the parking lot will be full. Compare to some thrift stores they are higher priced, others lower priced. I believe they have a clothing credit for people in need. It appears there has recently been a turnover in staff and volunteers, and I am not sure what that is about. TBH, there have been many changes with Caring Hands in the last five years. TBH, a lot of the local donors don't have much to give and will donate crappy pieces. Caring Hands has to sort through that. Last I heard they donate the worst to DAV. Facebook Marketplace killed the "lucky find" thrift model for a lot of small towns combined with the current economy. For those struggling to make ends meet, there is often some free bread in the thrift area, and in the summer free produce as well... to supplement anyone. I believe books are still free there, but call ahead if that interests you... you will be lucky if they answer. When the manager from Johnston location called back they accused me of threatening the staff when all I said was if they didn't email my refund receipt then I'm going to come down in person to get it. Again I would avoid the headache, and customer service they offer at this place. People and places like this should not be in business! Bad customer service is one thing, I'm used to it, and you see it everywhere, but wanting to call the cops and accusing me of threatening the staff because I want a refund/receipt is where I draw the line. Service and businesses that have people like this representing them should be reprimanded!
