We just completed a huge remodel of our home (master bath, master bedroom, master closet, guest bath, guest bedroom, open kitchen area) with Wes of Farnsworth Builders. I was very apprehensive about starting the process for this remodel as I almost didn't even know where to start. Everyone has horror stories of hiring a contractor. I did my research and read numerous reviews on Angie's Lists, Yelp, and also took recommendations from friends. Although all of the people I read about and spoke to seemed top-notch, what made Farnsworth Builders different was that Wes (the owner) was very easy to talk to about everything. He brought in his architect to also take a look at the structure of our home and to assess how the project could be completed. We would be tearing out walls, adding large windows, adding a balcony, and a patio door so there needed to be a proper structural assessment of the home. After the architect completed the design, Wes gave me an estimate, and I was ready to go with him. He asked me if I had received any other bids and I told him I wasn't going to bother as I felt most comfortable with him right from the start. He insisted that I get some other bids because he wanted me to be completely comfortable with his process and estimate but it would be good to see how other contractors worked and what their estimates would be. He explained what to look out for and what kind of questions to ask. I ended up interviewing several contractors and architects and all of them were great, but I did not feel the kind of rapport I did with Wes. His architect also explained that one of the bonuses with hiring Wes was that he could also be consult on the interior design, picking out products and items for the house; basically it was a "one-stop shop" with Farnsworth Builders. Wes had even said that after we got the design from the architect, we didn't even have to hire him as our builder. We could take the design and go with someone else. But of course, we told him he was the one we wanted to use. In the months before the start of the remodel, Wes guided us into preparing for the remodel. What I needed to look into, what kind of cabinets, tile, bathroom products, doors, etc. By the time we started, we were in a really good place and had most products delivered and ready to go. Wes insists on having everything ready before he starts so there aren't unreasonable delays and wasted time. His workers were on time every day, on schedule, cleaned up after every work day, and a pleasure to have at our home. They were such a pleasure to have at the house. My husband would even hang out with them after the day and talk shop. We had some major issues that were discovered from the previous owner's "remodel" (using that term very loosely), but Wes not only explained the problems but helped us fix things without breaking the bank. Throughout the remodel, Wes would explain what was going on, what needed to be done, and kept us fully informed on the process. I felt like Wes was building our home as he would his own. There were times that he would redo something if it wasn't exactly to his specification. And other times he would ask our opinion on something and I would just tell him to do it as he would his own home. That's how much we trusted him. When we had our final inspection, our inspector praised his work. He said that he knew Wes's work and completely trusted that everything was done according to code and knew that Wes is not the type of contractor that cuts corners or does anything unsafe. After almost 4 months, our home is complete and we are beyond thrilled. The process from start to finish was the best I can imagine for any remodel. I can't recommend them enough. read more

This is my first review on Yelp, and it's not mere coincidence that I decided to spend some of my very limited free time to share my thoughts about Wes Farnsworth. First and foremost, I am an engineer by trade, so my training has inherently made me very detail-conscious and I am admittedly as difficult a client to please as any--I'm sure Wes can attest to that. I didn't make it easy on him and his team with my demands and constant scrutiny during the process. I moved into a 1-bdroom condo that had extremely strict rules and regulations for remodeling under the HOA guidelines. In true form as an engineer, I spent the first 3 months of ownership carefully interviewing 6 different contractors to assess their competence, background and experience, reliability, and most importantly integrity--knowing these attributes would be needed in order to comply with the strict standards outlined in the HOA remodeling policy. From this screening process, I selected Wes and his team for my remodeling project which entailed installation of recessed can lights throughout the unit, installation of laminate flooring and base molding throughout the unit, complete remodeling of the bathroom (ceramic flooring, ceramic bathtub, ceramic wall-tiles, and toilet and shower fixtures). I pride myself on being a great judge of character, and I am happy to say that that trend continued with selecting Wes. The project itself was undoubtedly one of the biggest stressors I've had to deal with in recent memory, due in large part to many obstacles that the HOA and the City of Los Angeles laid in our path, often providing changing direction or levying very strict requirements. It could have been even more stressful had Wes not shielded me from a lot of the daily back-and-forth discussions. He absorbed a lot of that extra unplanned work without passing on the cost to me. And without his additional due-diligence and expertise to navigate through these requirements and directions, the project could easily have fallen by the wayside with any other contractor. For that, I am greatly appreciative and hence why I took the time to author this review. In the end, despite the challenges and obstacles that we had to overcome, I am extremely happy with the quality and workmanship of the remodeling project that Wes and his team completed. I have also received a lot of compliments and accolades from friends and family who have visited my condo, especially from those who saw my unit prior to remodeling and are absolutely amazed at the dramatic difference. Some have even likened the completed work to a model home or something that came out of an HGTV episode. I do not vouch on behalf of many people very often because their performance reflects upon my own credibility. With that said, I would highly recommend Wes Farnsworth as your remodeling contractor. He honors his commitments relative to schedule and deliverables, and stands by his workmanship. We had waited along time to Re model our 1956 kitchen, if we had known how easy Wes would make the process we would have acted sooner! Wes and his fabulous team gave us our dream kitchen. They also created a lovely front courtyard. I contracted with Wes, of W Farnsworth Builders last month, to do some renovation (mostly painting) on a condo I recently purchased in Tarzana, which I plan to rent out. I've contracted for renovation services several times before, including working with contractors renovating commercial hotels. In my experience, if you don't have 'direct' experience, just by doing your homework and checking some customer references, you can usually avoid the 'problem' contractors. What's left, is a group of mostly proficient professionals that can get the job done satisfactorily. But, no matter who you select, there will be unanticipated issues that will come up, even in the most well thought out projects. I have found, that what often makes the difference between a good contractor and a great contractor, is how they respond to you when these inevitable unknown 'issues' come up... sometimes mid-project. For example, on this project, outlet covers were included, but it wasn't until after the contract was signed and work had begun and we realized some of the registers (vent covers) were not in the best shape. How did Wes respond? He replaced them all at his expense. How about when an outside electrician makes a hole in the wall below the electrical panel to 'fish' wire for an additional breaker after the wall had already been painted? They just took care of it, as if it was their responsibility, (which it wasn't). So, if you are looking for someone that is professional, timely, responsible and reasonably priced (and mentions in almost every subsequent email, "I want you to be 100% satisfied..."), look no further than W Farnsworth Builders. read more

I found Wes when I was desperately trying to find a solution for some awful unpaintable, vinyl french doors that my another contractor had installed. I had been pretty liberal with my instructions just saying that the french doors needed to match the other 7 sets of french doors nearby and needed to be water resistant since I was replacing doors due to water damage. I was shocked at the communication gap. This is a story that started out badly but ended well. It was such a pleasant experience to work with Wes. I ended up with french doors that matched, built up molding around the doors that matched nearby doors, better hardware... Wes communicates well, offers his knowledgeable advice in pros and cons with different options and troubleshooting,is on time, trustworthy and courteous. I was so happy with his work, I had him come back and also get all my small jobs done from mounting flatscreen TVs, moving electrical boxes, fixing broken cabinets, drawers, hanging storage organizers in the garage... and replacing another two doors on my other house. We found Wes Farnsworth Builders through Yelp earlier in 2012 after we bought our first house. It needed a lot of work and I do not think we could have possibly done any better than Wes and his team. There are some basics that set them apart: Wes is polite, courteous, timely, responsive, and, of course skilled and clearly highly qualified for some pretty major work. I really think those things are important to note because for some reason they seem to be lacking in a fair few others we called for the job. We had Wes on site for about a 5-weeks and asked him to demolition our entire downstairs stone flooring, replace it with new hardwood, remove all lighting and replace it with recessed, and rip-out and replace a spare bathroom. The results are excellent. About 80% of the way through the job and as the crew were preparing to move on to finishing work (repainting the entire house, walls, ceilings, replacing all closet doors, etc.), we threw a curve ball - the spare bathroom he did was so good, we had to get the Master Bath done too. Wes worked this in without thinking twice. As we came to the end of the job, the crew discovered a leaky roof in a back corner of the house that required complete removal of a section of roof and skylight. Wes solved this problem quickly and fairly. It was a classic case of us being stuck and Wes got the work done on time and well within estimate. Please note that I am only mentioning the major work here. There are several smaller elements that we're really happy with. We had a lot of interaction with the team both in person, by phone, and email. Whenever anything came up we had great communication immediately. Wes constantly reached out to us with ideas, concerns, sending us web-links and pictures etc. so that we could stay informed and make decisions about fixtures etc. The team were at the house early in the morning and worked several weekends to finish up ahead of our expectations. We really found all the guys very friendly, open and chatty, and proud to show us the progress they were making. Now, if I contrast that experience with about 95% of the usual contractor stories I hear from friends and family, I think we did well. We've stayed in touch with Wes and look forward to inviting him and the team over now that we're settled in! I hope Wes' business flourishes and he should feel free to use me as a reference. so it's coming up on 4 years since Wes remodeled my master bath, and I recently noticed the "floating" counter-top had pulled away from the wall 1/2" ... I assumed it just needed to be reattached more firmly with a couple more screws, but actually the back was still firmly attached to the wall, as it should be, and the sides of the cabinet were pulling away from the back ... the cabinet itself was literally coming apart, not simply detaching from the wall ... (BTW, I was the one who picked out the cabinets, not Wes) ... Wes' guys removed the entire cabinet and countertop, which included disconnecting all the plumbing as well, rebuilt and reinforced the cabinet, and then reinstalled it ... so this was not merely a "repair of previous shoddy work" ... the previous work was perfect, it was all on me and my choice of crappy cabinets ... but Wes wouldn't charge me for the repair ... he stands by his work and takes pride in every detail of what he does ... so if the 5 stars from my previous review plus the 5 stars from this one means he gets a "10 Star Rating", I think he deserves it read more

I'm back where I found W Farnsworth Builders to finally write my review. I so hoped that I would be here giving a good review, and I am. I closed on my house at the beginning of Aug. and it was a dump in need of a complete remodel. Wes and his team got to work the day after I closed and gave it a complete overhaul. New ceiling, new electrical, lighting, installed heat/air, tankless water heater, moved and demo'd walls and windows to reconfigure rooms, finished the floors, complete remodel of the kitchen and 2 bathrooms. (Master with a beautiful freestanding tub and chandelier) Pergola for the backyard and more "little projects" then I can count. Wes rolled with the changes and challenges as the work progressed and absorbed what overages he could in his original bid. I am very happy with my new house. The tile work is beautiful, the custom kitchen has great little features that make me smile everyday and the master bath is what every working mother should have as a reward. As a single, working mom of a toddler this remodel could have been a nightmare on many fronts. These guys went out of their way to do extras for me to make my life and this process easier. Not only was the work done well to the smallest detail but Wes and Nate are true gentleman. read more

I hired W Farnsworth Builders to add approximately 350 square ft. to my home. The main piece of the project was adding a master suite by converting the existing bedroom to a bathroom and walk in closet, and adding additional square footage for the new bedroom. Additionally, a second bedroom was extended, with some of the existing space used for laundry and closet. This was a big project which took about 2 months. The 2 main workers he had on my project were Nate and Anthony. I can't say enough nice things about these 2 guys. They were always working the whole time they were on-site, and the quality of the work was topnotch. The guy he brought in to do the bathroom tile was outstanding. It looks amazing! Wes is a one-stop shop, providing plumbers, floorers, roofers, etc. and taking care of all of the annoying details like dealing with the city for permits and whatnot. As with any big project, there were issues that came up, but nothing compared to other horror stories I've heard. I can honestly think if I had chosen anyone else but Wes for this project I would have regretted it. For the most part the project was on budget and on time. The only real delays were due to the city, not Wes. As far as budget, Wes does not hit you with monetary surprises all through the project the way others do. The only extra money I spent was for wanting more expensive fixtures and doors, and fixing some minor, preexisting plumbing issues. I was always able to get in touch with Wes when I needed to, including weekends. I would definitely hire Wes and his team again, and recommend them to anyone. read more
