Letter Four totally dropped the ball on my project! Almost got to the final approval stage just to find out that it was not worth doing due to section 8. After spending $200,000, the project was scrapped! THE DID NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND I LOST ALL MY INVESTMENT IN THE PLANS! $200,000 DOWN THE DRAIN! They didn't offer any reimbursement at all for their mistake!!! Good luck if you use them, and I hope they don't mess it up like my plans if you use them. But I wouldn'trecommend them after what happened to me!!!! BeWare read more

Found Letter Four online and read glowing reviews like the ones here... I should have looked closer. Having worked with them for 2 years, I now realize most of these reviews are either (1) 5+ years old or (2) from people who work there - Alex S, J M, etc. I spent about $120k and the last 2 years on a 4-bedroom remodel with Letter Four. I have *nothing* to show for it. No plans, no permits, nothing. Just a home that I cannot live in with some holes in the walls and ceilings (they just enough minor demo that I can't live there and then they disappeared - fun!) What I do have are shady invoices (they pad their invoices, double-charge you, refuse to send you receipts even after you ask 5x, charge you for everything they can with a 20% markup - Ubers, printing fees, software fees, etc). What really bothered me is that they pay their Project Managers almost nothing and then they charge you $200/hr for those PMs work. When I tried to do calls with them to understand the invoicing, instead of listening and admitting their mistakes when they very clearly double-charged me for the same things - they yelled at me. The owner Jeremy talked over me the entire call. (To his credit, he did apologize for not letting me get a single word in - he said something like "I've been told I do this to women"). If you want to work with two really arrogant people who want to talk a lot about how great they are and how right they are but won't listen - by all means, sign up to work with these folks. The work itself isn't just subpar and sloppy - it's actually unusable. They were constantly making mistakes - you'd send them measurements and then get the plans and everything would be the wrong size. I never got a window schedule that had windows that matched the plans. They never got approval for a permit for the plans they created. They made so many mistakes, it's laughable. I hired a new Engineer and Contractor who both can't stop cracking up about Letter Four's work. "This isn't even to scale! Look, they have the downspouts at the highest points of the roof! Look at this - that part must be a joke, right?!" For the prices they charge and how arrogant they are about their experience, they deliver really sub-optimal work. They claim their high hourly fees and high-end rates will make your remodel easy for you - but I found that working with them is 5x more work than with my new contractor. (Message me if you want his info - he's *amazing*). Finally, their design aesthetic is really cheesy. It doesn't match any of the photos in their portfolio. All their design proposals felt something you'd see in a cheap flip. It was a total waste of money to pay for a "design + build" firm because I ended up designing every inch of it myself. Another reviewer called them "awkward" and I 100% found that to be the case. Their online portfolio is great, but actually working with them is a total nightmare on every level. Most people don't love their contractors - but you will LOATHE these people. I guess if you want some cool horror stories about your remodel, this is the company for you! read more

top notch design. my husband and i agonized over who would handle our renovations, and we're so glad we went with this team!

I would highly recommend Letter Four! I contracted with Letter Four to build one of our stores in Larchmont Village in LA. This was store #13 for us, so we've had several different experiences. They were not only top notch on the quality and craftsmanship of the build, but their team is a dream to work with. I'd be thrilled to use Letter Four again. Jeremy, Lauren and Nicole make it smooth and stress free - the best!!!! read more

Jeremy is super dreamy & knows his craft! I just wanted what I called a simple addition to my home, clearly not so simple when it all got laid out. You always hear the horror stories of construction, deadlines, money getting paid out, etc & I experienced none of it! True professionalism at its finest with this company. They kept me in the loop constantly on what was going to happen, happening & how out timeline was shaping up. Start to finish was painless & a huge relief. They made my home way more efficient & pretty. Very thankful to have been recommended to them from another one of their clients. 5 stars read more

We hired Letter Four back in 2014 to turn our small 2 bedroom house into a 4 bedroom/2 stories house. We had never done any house construction previously, so we were looking for a design-build firm to help us concept, design plans, construction and project management. When we met Lauren & Jeremy, the co-owners of Letter Four, we felt confident that they would accomplish the job in the best way and stay on budget. Before diving in we heard from other people that we should plan for 50% overages of the original budget. I don't think many people have that much money in reserve, so we were VERY nervous. We had a clear budget going in and the overages we ran into we're either from our choices to do things differently (windows), or city ordinances that were created after we began construction (rain barrels). I'm the end I think we were over budget by roughly 7% of the original plan. Jeremy and Lauren were great at giving us options, walking us through the process and providing therapy from time to time!!! The simplest thing I would say is that, if we ever built a house again, we would do it with Letter Four. read more

The summary of this long overdue review is that we would highly recommend Letter Four for all aspects of the design/build process. We hired Letter Four to do a complete re-build of our house (taking it from a 1300sf single story house to a 3,000sf two story house and completely redesigning the entire facade). This was a major project, particularly for a couple with very little experience in construction or renovations. Admittedly, as is the case with all construction projects, there were some unanticipated delays throughout the process. But, the large majority of these were at no fault of Letter Four's and, if ever they did make a mistake, they did everything in their power to rectify the problem as quickly and painlessly as possible. In my book, the responses and reactions to issues are more important than the issues themselves and whenever an unexpected issue did arise, Letter Four was exceedingly fair, reasonable, and responsive. This was of vital importance to me, and I commend them for their integrity. In addition to their customer service, I could not be happier with the end result. Lauren and Jeremy are truly masters of their respective trades. Running a business is hard, but it brought us great comfort to know that they were there, behind the scenes, to assist with both the architectural and construction related aspects of the project. I also have to give a major shout-out to their Project Manager, Emmet, who could not have been more helpful, kind, responsive, friendly, knowledgeable, or easy to work with. One of the hardest parts of running a small business is hiring employees who will properly represent the company and maintain the same level of customer service you, as an owner, would provide. Lauren and Jeremy have certainly excelled in this realm, as Emmet was truly a rockstar. If you hire Letter Four for your design/build needs, you will not be disappointed! read more

This company was super weird to deal with. My husband and I found them on Yelp, really liked the work on their website and contacted them to get a quote on a renovation of a new home we just purchased. On our first call I let Lauren know what a time crunch we had and asked if they would be able to meet on a weekend to see this house because we wanted to get started right away and she agreed. When I tried to schedule this meeting with her assistant I was told "if we do take something on the weekends it would need to be planned out several weeks in advance". So after much back and forth the current owner offered us a 30 minute window to open the house on a weekday to accommodate. At the end of this meeting Lauren & Jeremy told me they would follow up to set a time for us to come in and discuss next steps. A few hours later their assistant wrote to say they couldn't take on a new project at this time. I'm glad to know now rather than later but I found that extremely unprofessional. They should have just declined from the start. Complete waste of many people's time. read more

I hired Letter Four to remodel my house and convert my garage into a screening room. I checked out many contractors and design firms prior to hiring them and none of them can hold a candle to these guys in terms of raw talent, honesty, and price point. Jeremy is an absolute pleasure to deal with - he's smart, honest, and forthright with his customers. More importantly, he actually cares about your project. He took the time to get a feel from me about what my "dream room" would be like and then proceeded to make those dreams come true. The process of working with him was fantastic from the get go - he understands design from both an artistic and practical standpoint. This means he knows how to get the best possible results out of your budget while not afraid to think outside the box and make creative suggestions. The screening room that he created is so amazing, so full of incredible design elements (especially the lighting) that I regularly take credit to anyone who comes over for Jeremy's creativity. There are a ton of contractors out there who will give you a low ball quote and then by the time they are deeply entrenched in your project they will start putting in change orders and raising prices. I had terrible experiences with a few such firms and it nearly soured me on the entire process. Jeremy gave me a fair, honest quote and it never ballooned up like the others. I could honestly go on for days about how good these guys are but the best endorsement I can give you about them is just to say this: I have subsequently hired Letter Four on three other projects and I have been more than happy with the results each and every time. I would hire them again in a heartbeat. I am a real, satisfied customer. Give these guys a chance - you won't regret it. read more

My experience working with Letter Four was great! I needed a logo for my company with limited time available. They created an amazing logo with just some basic information from me. The level of creativity was priceless, yet they understood my customer and the "feeling" I wanted my logo to portray. They were very timely in providing me with proofs to approve and were considerate of when I needed the final logo. All emails were professional and were answered timely. I would recommend Letter Four to anyone needing their design/development services and will go back to them when I need their services again. read more

We hired Letter Four to design and rebuild our late 1940's house in West LA. We basically replaced everything: plumbing, electrical, and the entire interior. We moved the kitchen from the front to the rear of the house, changed the roof line, enclosed a deck area and turned it into a master bathroom, and extended the back half. Lauren and Jeremy were very patient and open to our ideas and ever growing wish list. Everything was organized, itemized and well communicated, and our project manager was top notch. The build team is impeccable with excellent attention to detail. Despite only being a residential client in the midst of a lot of their larger commercial projects, they never made me feel like a small fish, and my questions and requests were always quickly addressed. We loved the result, and a few years later got multiple bids well over asking price the first week that we put the house on the market. read more

AMAZING company!!! It's hard to find responsive people in any business, let along the construction business, so we thanked our lucky stars when we started working with Letter Four. Lauren and Jeremy, the owners, were two of the most responsive and friendly people I've ever met and their passion and vision for our project was impressive from the start. You'll immediately feel at ease with your design/build needs in the hands of these two and their amazing team!! Their level of professionalism and communication is unmatched, which is of the upmost importance when embarking on a big housing project! Thank you for being so wonderful, Letter Four! read more

These people know how to get their job done. Hard workers.

We hired Letter Four to do a ton of work over the whole of our house while we were out of town for a few weeks (painting all walls and woodwork, complete kitchen face lift, new floors to name a few things). They got the job done immaculately, on schedule and on budget, and left the house clean, tidy and in good order for our return. I can't speak highly enough of their reliability, efficiency and the high quality of their work. I'd hire them again in a heart beat! read more

We hired Letter Four to do a pretty substantial remodel of our mid-century modern home, which had not been updated since the 1950s. This involved a complete redo of the kitchen and bathrooms, as well as some structural changes. As new homeowners with no experience in renovation or design, we were very nervous about such a huge undertaking! However, we were immediately put at ease when we started working with Letter Four. They were very thorough and allowed us to be as hands-on or removed as we wanted to be. They handled all the permitting, vendors, subcontracts, and ordering and worked through numerous obstacles on our behalf! Lauren's eye for design is spot-on and we basically went with almost all of her choices, without a second thought! Overall a great experience and we would definitely work with them again! read more

We worked with Jeremy and Lauren on a major kitchen and bath renovation. We can't say enough good things about them. They truly created a dream kitchen for us. They came back to us with great options, listened to our input and really thought about cost efficient solutions that made sense. Lauren's designs were amazing and kept with the style of the house perfectly (1930's Spanish). Jeremy went out of his way to break down costs and outline schedules for us. Their team was courteous and always did a great job of cleaning up, which was really important for us, as we have 2 small kids. I would definitely recommend Letter Four! read more

We hired Lauren and Jeremy to help us with our remodel back in 2013 to turn our 1930's Spanish style house into something that would work for a family of four, with a budget. The end result is amazing; we turned a choppy 2 bed 1.75 bath house into a beautiful open concept, 3 bed 2 and a half bath home with all the modern conveniences but keeping with the traditional style of the original house. We have gotten nothing but good comments about our home and I am as pleased with the outcome as I am with the service that LetterFour provided to us. read more

Letter Four rock - they helped us with two bathroom re-models in our new house. Loved working with Jeremy and Lauren. They gave us a lot of great advice outside the work they did, which was a really awesome resource, and helped us keep within budget while delivering a great design. read more

Jeremy and Lauren led the renovation of our home in Santa Monica Canyon. The original house was a tribute to 1991 Miami Vice, a big modern white thing with polished black granite floors and shag carpet. Every single room needed to be fixed. They opened up the rooms to let light into every corner, worked with us to make it both kid-friendly and beautiful and were comfortable integrating some of our preferences for specific ceramic tiles, art and metalwork with their design vision. Along the way we discovered ways that the original builder had cut costs and/or parts of the house were simply giving out (old thin plumbing, a structural issue supporting the staircase, etc). These things will happen in any major renovation and it is important how your contractor handles them when they do. Jeremy was great in communicating exactly what the issue was and how we could solve it in a way that was best for our budget and timeline. Wonderful. read more
