I started planning to build an ADU about a year ago. I extensively researched ADU requirements, design and construction. My first and perhaps my best decision so far was to select Ramy to design my first ADU. My selection was based on comparing other options and reading hundreds of reviews. Other less expensive options were available, but based on multiple reviews, they come with potential risks in terms of plan approval and added construction cost. So far, my choice paid off where my plans were approved by the City in a record time. After my permit application submittal, I received very minor comments from the City. Ramy addressed all comments, and made the required plan revisions in a couple of days. The resubmitted plans were accepted without any additional comments. I found Ramy to be very talented and highly qualified architect. I also found him to be vey patient, very humble and very respectful to my wishes. Even when I suggested the wrong approach, Ramy always listened without being dismissive, and found a gentle way to steer me to the right decision, which at the end both met my needs and yet was more efficient, more practical and much more elegant in design than my original approach. But what impressed me the most was the ease of communication with Ramy throughout the design project, and the permit application. I sent him many texts throughout the day from very early mornings to late evenings, during weekdays and weekends. There was no incident when he didn't respond, most of the time within seconds. I was recommended to get a permit from our city to convert our 1 car garage to a room and that I would need an architect. I was nervous because of the expense it would take and the time it takes for the city to approve my permit. Then I found Ramy through here and was comfortable with his reviews. I called him and he is very prompt with his response, transparent with his fees and services. He will also help you and guide you through the process. It also helps that he is familiar with a lot if the inland empire cities as he has experience with them. Ramy was a life saver for my project. Initially, We have hired designer for my healthcare construction project and it was a big mistake. Designer (drafter - not a licensed architect) took 2 months to draft the plans and then submitted to city and city gave us 33 comments back in return. My designer took another 2 months trying to resolve and finally he gave up and we had to fire him from the job. We then hired another licensed architect and he was even worst than designer. He sat on project for 3 months without doing any work just to tell us oh i did not do anything yet but i can get started on your project. I told him - you are fired. Third time will be a charm, then i found Ramy from google listing and hired him. Ramy promised me to do finish initial architectural work in 3 weeks (he did it on time without any follow up) and then said it will take another 3 to 4 weeks for MEP (he did it on time. MEP stands for Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing Plans including Calcs). When we submitted the plans to city - City only gave us 5 silly comments back in first round.... Second round we got 2 comments back... We just received the building permit issued yesterday 5/29/2024 to start the construction phase. Whenever we have any questions regarding projects or plans or need clarifications, I just text him and he calls me as soon as possible and resolve or help with issue. I reached out to Ramy four months ago with only a dream of expanding our home to fit our growing family. Today, thanks to Ramy, I have drawings fully approved by my HOA and the city, and we are just finalizing our GC contract before we begin construction in the next month. Ramy's proposal was the highest we received, and I can confidently say it was worth every penny for the following reasons: 1. Ramy was able to come up with design solutions we couldn't have come up with ourselves. He helped us find a balance between expanding our indoor living space and preserving our backyard space to maximize functionality as well as our home value. When our HOA came back with frustrating feedback, Ramy found a way to satisfy their requests without compromising on design or square footage. 2. Ramy is extremely knowledgeable and detail oriented. More than one contractor we received bids from commented that these are the best drawings they've seen. I'm certain this is a major reason why we were able to get through the city approval process in just 1 month. 3. Ramy responded to every one of our city's comments within a day. He cares about our plans and never left us hanging, even over the weekends. 4. This is a big one. Ramy used to be a general contractor many years ago, so he designs with the construction cost and process in mind. Several contractors we talked to mentioned that architects often don't know how construction works, but none of them have had an issue with our drawings. 5. Working with our own architect gives us more control over our drawings and gives us the freedom of bidding the job out to multiple contractors (as opposed to having a contractor use their architect for the drawings, and then having no choice but to use that contractor). When we did collect bids, we found that the difference between the highest and lowest bid was astronomical. Ramy offered valuable advice on selecting contractors and has always made himself available to help answer their questions. We were very pleased with the architectural services that Ramy provided for our home remodel. He is very professional, answered all of our questions, and helped us nail down a final design idea. Our remodel consists of a room addition, which basically meant that our master bedroom is to be extended into the backyard. This will give us plenty of space in the interior for a bigger master bathroom, and a bigger kitchen. We will be removing a wall in order to open the space, and the rest is updating cabinets, and flooring. From the time Ramy came to our home to take his measurements and notes, to the time we received the final drawings for submittal to the city, was about 2 months. Once submitted to the city, it took just over 3 weeks to obtain permits. This includes a revision that needed to be made that the city requested. Ramy quickly made the requested revision, and I resubmitted to continue the processed. The city Engineer even commented that the drawings were really good. My wife and I just purchased a beautiful, Mid-Century home and we wanted to remodel the kitchen, bathrooms and turn one of the bedrooms into a walk in closet. We met with a couple contractors who said they could do the work, but we weren't sure about the design ideas they presented. We debated on whether or not we should spend the money to get an architect on the project, then decided we would at least meet with some. We contacted Ramy at Artoo Design S2dio based on all of the 5-Star Reviews. I spoke with Ramy and he quoted me the price for him to do the plans and, frankly, it was more than I was expecting. I told him this and he said no problem, he can just come meet with us and charge us a design consultation fee, which was very reasonable. Let me tell you, within 10 minutes of meeting with Ramy and hearing his ideas on what we should do my wife and I knew right away, he's the man! We had given him our ideas on how to remodel the kitchen, bathrooms and turning a bedroom into a closet and then he gave us his ideas. Boy, did we feel stupid! Lol. Because after hearing his ideas we realized how much BETTER they were than the previous ideas we had been presented with by other contractors and realtors. We were so impressed with his ideas that we quickly decided to also have him do the plans for the remodel. As I mentioned earlier in my review, the price he had quoted us was more than I was expecting. But after more investigation on my part, I realized his pricing was very fair. Actually, much more than fair. After two meetings with Ramy, he quickly got busy working on the plans. He knew we needed to start right away so he got them done MUCH faster than we had even expected. After we received the plans and showed them to the three contractors we were getting bids from, all three of them mentioned how detailed the plans were and they were easily able to give us bids based mainly on Ramy's plans. Oh, and one bonus for us, when we purchased the home we purchased it based on it being 2,000 square feet. However, when Ramy went through the entire house, he found us an EXTRA 400 FEET! That means our home is actually just over 2,400 square feet, not the 2,000 square feet we thought it was. That means he increased our home's value by about $200,000.00!! Now if that's not a bonus, I don't know what is!! We have now begun the remodel process and any time our contractor needs to ask a question of Ramy, Ramy always responds in a timely fashion. This is a review of the services Ramy provided regarding his expertise on possible foundation issues, and load bearing wall. During our remodel project, a decision had to be made regarding a wall, as well as the foundation. There was a crack in the foundation after older tiles were removed. Contractor time, our time, and money was on the line once I had this issue come up. This was right before the holiday weekend, and I sought immediate help. Ramy quickly took the time to answer some of my questions and concerns. After the conversation, we still wanted to make 100% sure we can continue with the project and was hoping we can wait until Ramy was available.
