Full disclosure, this review will be long & as honest as possible about my personal experience…read moreliving in The Andy, which has been for two months at most and largely positive. I've moved in this September 2020 (during our COVID-19 pandemic) to a 4 bed/3 bath unit on the first floor with three friends I trust and care for deeply (which I'm sure makes living here even better).
A few inconveniences/slight cons for me personally that others might want to note:
一》I sometimes hear people/things through the walls or ceiling, so this might be important to note if you're sensitive to noise. Closing the door according to my friend helps substantially.
一》The washing machine within the unit is fairly loud, but it's honestly nice to have a washing machine in individual units, and said washing machine works great.
一》If you have a car & get parking at The Andy, you will likely share a parking spot with another person. This means that one of the cars in your parking spot will be against the wall, and that car cannot move out without the other car moving out first. If you both need to use the car regularly, you may not want a parking spot here.
一》I'm not sure if The Andy is necessarily the most organized, but I also moved in when The Andy experienced an influx of people moving into their apartments after west-coast wildfires. I received the phone number of the person I shared a parking spot with by chance because I happened to meet the person I was shared a parking spot in passing. This person had already tried to text me, but The Andy did not give them my correct phone number. I assume that if I came forward with these complaints, the Andy would work to resolve them, but because this worked out smoothly enough, I didn't tell management. When I arrived, The Andy said they would give me a bedroom key at some point; I don't yet have one, nor do I need one, so I'm just indifferent on it and hoping that moving out process, whenever it happens, goes smoothly.
一》I awoke due to a fire alarm that went off very loudly one weekday morning, then found there was an email warning us about said alarm sent at 9AM that same morning. A bit more notice, like a day's advance, would be nice since I wake up late usually, but I don't think this happens the most often and this sort of experience might be a one-time sort of thing. It does inform me that their fire alarms are loud, which makes me confident that I'd notice them in an emergency.
一》Lurking to read the lower star yelp reviews makes me nervous because I hope to get my deposit back, and there's nothing reviewers'd gain from dishonesty. I can't tell how much The Andy has grown as an organization in terms of responding to issues; my personal experience here has been good here at least so far.
一》At least in our unit, we had to choose whether we wanted the bathroom fan be on on 24/7 or never at all. This was determinable by each bathroom (one BR does not have the fan on ever, the other 2 have it on 24/7). Needing to make this choice didn't personally bother me much.
Pros/things I appreciate deeply:
一》The Andy was very accommodating when my friends and I looked for our final roommate to live with (we wanted it to be someone we felt familiar with), although the individual leasing means that you don't necessarily need to worry about this. When I thought a friend might need to share the room with me, they were supportive as well (it costs an extra $300 for another person to also live in the room).
一》The microwave and free TV that came with the otherwise unfurnished unit have both been wonderful.
一》I have mostly been in my apartment during COVID, which was clean upon arrival. I think The Andy takes COVID seriously since they want everyone to wear masks when in public spaces.
一》The hallway area floor is very nice hardwood, and my bedroom, which is $630/month before additional fees, is comparatively larger than other places. My room size can fit at least twin beds inside comfortably, and closet size is spacious. Kitchen is smaller; maybe 1-2 people can comfortably cook at the same time, but that hasn't been a problem for my roommates and me personally.
一》Sharing a bathroom has been a great experience for me. Marble countertop around sink reminds me of a hotel, cabinet space is large, water is hot! if I want it to be, a great temperature, and showers are soothing.
一》Staff is kind to my understanding. When something was wrong with one of our stove burners, The Andy gave us a bit of credit money also. Maintenance people incredibly kind as well.
一》Wifi in my unit has been pretty good on the whole; I'm hoping that continues!
一》The Andy is quite close to locations such as food stores and the University of Oregon.
I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend these apartments to people looking for a place, simply because I have only been here a few months. But, I would be happy to see my friends move in here if said friends think this is a good fit for them and within their price range.
