The food here is literally like living at a restaurant. Chef Tommy is one of the best in the business and the quality of food he makes for us is nothing short of amazing. This food isn't your typical dorm food, it's some of the best food I've ever had. My favorite meals include: Chicken Teriyaki and Yakisoba Noodles, Eggs Benedict, Cinnamon French Toast, Loaded Bacon Potato Soup and Grilled Cheese, Pancakes with Banana Fosters, and the Bacon-Wrapped Pork Tenderloin just to name a few.
Living here has allowed me to really eat healthy! Every meal always has fresh cut fruit and a full-fledged salad bar available. Think bacon, hardboiled egg, multiple types of lettuce, dressings etc. It's easy to get a well-balanced diet because they always provide healthy options. For lunch and dinner they also make the tastiest cooked veggies. I didn't like cooked carrots or zucchini before here, but they season and cook the veggies so well that everything tastes so good!
You also might think that the food would get old after a while, but trust me, I've lived here for two years and they do an incredible job of mixing up the meals so you always get to try new things while still getting to enjoy your favorites because each week is different. No cookie-cutter weekly meals here. Chef Tommy is a master chef and is able to constantly create new dishes, for example, he made these crazy good carmelized bacon-wrapped jalapeños just for our Super Bowl watch party at the Collegian.
Finally, if you have a sweet-tooth but don't like to go out and buy dessert each day this is the place for you. The chefs here freshly bake dessert everyday for us! There's always at least two options for dessert ranging from cupcakes, to a wide variety of cookies, pudding, banana cream pie, strawberry shortcakes, etc. Again, these desserts are the real-deal and it's really hard to only just take one each meal.
Having food provided does make living here cost more than living at other locations around campus, however the connivence and ease of just walking downstairs and eating a restaurant quality meal 3 times a day (twice on weekends) makes it extremely worth it! I'm always on the go balancing work and school, so knowing I can always come home to delicious, already-prepared meal makes living here at the Collegian an extremely great fit for me. Another added benefit is that I don't go out to eat nearly as often as I did when I lived at the dorms. Every meal is such high quality that you have to try it - and I'm honestly rarely ever disappointed. Another way the Collegian helps me out is that they will make me a late-plate of dinner so when I get home late from a group project, I still can enjoy that day's dinner and don't need to go out to eat.
The Collegian's food is top-notch. 10/10. Two years ago, the food wasn't even the reason why I came to live here in the first place, but I can assure you is THE reason I am coming back next year. read more
