It was busy, so you could tell that it is a popular spot. It is set on the river that runs through the village so you can enjoy your breakfast while the water slowly flows by you. This area and the cafe are beautiful. The staff were very nice, friendly and helpful. Even though they were very busy, they showed no signs of being annoyed or overwhelmed. They seemed genuinely happy you were there and eager to make sure you were happy with your stay. We ordered the sausage rolls and a Cornish pastry and they were very good. I'm sure there are a lot of amazing restaurants in the place, but you would not go wrong stoping by here to grab a coffee and a bite to eat.

Breakfast Review:…read more Today was a treat. I was recommended this place by a business colleague and thought it was worth trying out. I didn't realise it was a Greek restaurant and a cafe, but it appears that it is. The interior is clean and spaced out well, with a counter at the front and a spotlessly clean open kitchen at the rear. First off was ordering drinks, Orange juice 'carton or fresh squeezed sir?' The perfect question. I went for fresh squeezed, a rare treat. Coffee was excellent too. Then came the breakfast: as near to perfection as you could get. One juicy plump sausage, 2 griddled pieces of bacon, mushrooms, perfectly cooked tomato, black pudding to die for, beans were served in a ramekin, (its a personal thing, I HATE beans on my breakfast plate), 2 eggs that personified the perfect egg. Proper toast made it even better. The service was superb too, from the lovely lady taking the orders, through to the chefs cooking and the serving staff too. Freshly squeezed orange juice, large coffee and Full English for just £10.40. Superb. I think I have a new favourite :0) 9/10 (another round of toast would have made it perfect!)

Often when cafés call themselves a 'lounge' you don't feel comfortable enough to lounge, however here was the opposite. The atmosphere is laid back and the staff are friendly and efficient. The menu is really well thought out and I love that they have classics alongside slightly jazzed up versions of things. Certain things with a twist caught my eye like the mezze lunch (but I'll eat anything with halloumi in), the spiced hot chocolate and the salsa chicken hot wrap. They all sound delicious and not the same old thing you'd usually find in a café. My toasted tea cake and cuppa really did the trick and it was inexpensive.

I find a lot of coffee places just don't really want you stay and they have hard, uncomfy furniture to reflect that. But not here! This place often has events that extend its opening hours, too. My favourite is the 'big comfy folk club' which are folk and acoustic sessions hosted on the 1st and 3rd Friday of the month. Next one is on 4th March and tickets are only a fiver! Brilliant intimate venue, and the performers usually stick around for a while afterwards which is nice (: OH ALSO, WINE! The big comfy book shop serves alcohol! The owner spent over a year compiling books to open his shop, and ever since has kept a good variety of books that are unique to customers, or a popular search result of a used book. There is always fresh coffee, tea options, beer and wine, and some sort of snacks like crisps or cake for sale. Seating is available to hang out with friends for a little while or to start tucking into your future purchase. Also I noticed that live folk music nights and game nights regularly occur here too! The clientele is pretty much exclusively workmen, (I didn't see any women), all of which are looking for a huge, fried breakfast. I had cycled for about 20 miles and was starving so I went for the jumbo breakfast. It cost me £5.00 which included a mug of coffee or toast. After paying the lady that seemed to be the cook too, just about 5 minutes later, she came over to my table with a huge plate, a mug of coffee and a side plate of 2 rounds of thick toast. The plate had 2 sausages, 2 bacon an egg, a round of fried bread, black pudding, mushrooms, about half a can of beans AND tinned tomatoes with the toast. I was starving but gave up. It was then that i was told that after the 'Jumbo' breakfast, they had the 'Mega', which cost £10.00 and was double of what I ordered! The ingredients were all cheap, but still very tasty.

We wanted to have lunch but hadn't really seen anything and so we decided to head to Bakewell (about 20 minutes drive) when I noticed a classy, inviting, purple sign by the road "The Orangery". We quickly turned around and are so glad that we did! We had a really GREAT lunch and have already booked again for Christmas Eve when our daughter and new husband visit. It may sound odd but it used to be part of a very prestigious school for over a century - the most famous "Old Girl" was Richmal Crompton who wrote all the "William" books that I devoured as a kid. Now the whole complex is basically a old peoples home (Man are they lucky!!). So the lunchgoers were, on average, grey haired (but I am going that way too) - but it was fairly quiet in terms of lunchgoers and music (just the right volume - Christmas songs, Wham and many many more of the favorites. The restaurant drips class, the bistro also (full bar). A wide selection of offerings _ I seriously wanted the prawn curry but got lured into a Christmas special. Breakfast Review:…read more Its a wonderful venue - but its not open on a Monday (as I found out to my cost, when I cycled there on a Monday!). Its Packington farm, where the fields are full of the free range pigs, where the incredible sausages come from. The bacon is pretty good too. You eat in a modern cafe on the farm that has the cafe at one end and the farm shop at the other. Be warned the farm shop will take all the money from your wallet - there is some incredible produce to buy. Breakfast was good but small for the price (£7.25). It has to be with sausages that are probably the best I have eaten. Bacon was pretty impressive too. The only things that left this breakfast down, was meager amount served up and the toast. At a farm shop, I expect really good bread and that bread to make really good toast. What we got here was supermarket sliced break. I think they have really let themselves down. Had they got the toast right and slapped another sausage and slice of bacon on it, could have been a contender for one of the Midlands best. One final thing: they don't serve baked beans with the breakfast. Weird?
