Lady Isobel Throckmorton is a treasure, her knowledge and eye going back as far as her time as a wartime runner for Philip Green - one of the most esteemed London Galleries. Call ahead and you'll be treated to a feast for the eyes which is better than many a large London Gallery. Talk to Lady Throckmorton and she will open your eyes to a new World. Most of the pictures in Gallery 3 are either originals or limited edition prints, with a good mix of different media - watercolour, oils etc. There are small alcoves that highlight a particular artist, where you can sit in a comfy seat and peruse some stunning paintings. Next to each artists group of paintings, was a photograph of them, with a piece about their life and inspirations, a nice idea. Art is very subjective, but for me the large oil paintings of a bustling Piccadilly Square and a Parisian street at night were the pick of the bunch. Obviously being mostly originals, the prices were high, but I genuinely thought some of the paintings were worth their price tag. You can even get a limited edition print by none-other than Mr Rolf Harris!

The images are all hand painted and then reproduced as prints or onto a canvass, and the genres cover sectors such as movies, music, cities and even a Volkswagen inspired range. The paintings are of such high quality, you have to look again! They have everything from Bob Marley to Madonna, Oasis to The Wanted, Amy Whinehouse to the Beattles. I liked the large canvass of the Joker. The great exceptional service which they offer includes having your own photo reproduced onto a canvass, from £20 for a 10"x10" upto a large 20"x40". With a fantastic location opposite the entrance to King's College, this is a great place to come in and browse - and for that reason, if you want some buying advice, you may have to wait a while due to the sheer number of people who wander in. However, the staff do really know their stuff and are extremely helpful, even for novices who might feel a little intimidated. I first went in with only a vague idea of the kind of thing I wanted and came away with much useful information. Later, having bought the prints we wanted, we took them to the Lawson Framing Gallery and had them expertly mounted and framed.

It serves a snack and hot food menu but I went in for a few drinks. The bar is a series of rooms with tables and chairs, big comfy sofas and warm lamp lighting. Its like meeting up at a friends house for a bottle of wine but having table service! Excellent service, great choice of wines and not over priced like so many wine bars I have been to. Sometimes there are displays from schools or from competitions. It is well-worth a visit and you can spend some money in the good art shop. I like good jewellery! It has a friendly feel to it.

My favourite bit of the year there is when they put on the exhibition of local art which anyone can submit work to - you get a really interesting variety of work in different media then. Some of the modern stuff isn't very good to my tastes, but at least they give less well known artists a chance to show case their work.

The Evergreen was the first gallery I visited when I originally moved to a village near Daventry…read morefrom London. At the time I was pretty skint, having abandoned London with not a lot to show for 12 years in the capital, and ploughed all I had into buying a house. Walking in the door, it was obvious that this was not a high pressure establishment. The air was soft and warm and the art all looked very relaxed - just my style. My eye was drawn to a painting by local artist Tom Wood, of a deserted beach, viewed from a great distance. I loved it as it reminded me very much of childhood summers, so I had to have it, even in my empty-pocketed condition. Much haggling ensued and it now hangs on the wall in my bedroom, to remind me that if you want something badly enough, it can always be made to happen. Thanks to the Evergreen Gallery for their help in making this particular dream come true!
