This is the "pub club" my boyfriend and his friends planned to go to for his goodbye dinner. Luckily I was excited to be go here because it's one hell of a walk from any place of interest at Warwick Uni. Somehow, others made the trek as well, and on a Friday night there was a decent sized crowd both in the pub and the garden. Our group was rather huge (20 people showed up for Mr Popular!) and we were all in good spirits and ready to order food, then drink and dance the night away. Only our plans were nipped in the bud at dinner.
Upon standing in line, we were told that the kitchen was 1 hour behind in delivering the food, so it'd be 1 hour before they would take any more food orders. Uhh...come again? How can they tell me this and expect me to actually wait? It's Friday night and you're understaffed? Grossly incompetent? A bit of both?? Judging from the fancy placard behind the counter that allows the staff to chalk in how far behind the kitchen is, this is just how life goes for people looking for food and a good time at Varsity. And in one hour's time, they stop serving food altogether, so in an indirect way she just told me they were planning to close the kitchen for the night. Disenchanted, we accepted our destiny to wander the nightlife wasteland of the West Midlands once more, in search of the promised land of drinks and dances. read more
