The Plough & Harrow is a very old pub situated on an old Roman and London Road. It used to be an…read moreold coaching inn, and still has the old fabulous stables, redone and adding a touch of history to the place. A few years ago it was partially ruined in a flood, but the rebuild has gone a long way to making it one of the best pubs in Tamworth. It has a very large garden, lots of tables, a canopy and outside braziers for nice but chilly spring evenings. The inside has low ceilings, exposed beams and magnolia walls. It's a nice, comfy old English pub feel, but without the tatty standard maroon carpet. There aren't many tables inside, so standing is pretty much a must. The Plough & Harrow gets really busy on weekend nights, and is a haven to the young and trendy Tamworth set (you didn't know they existed, did you?) before they go on to a club. The music is pretty decent, through speakers, and so loud on weekends that talking inside isn't very plausible. The P&H also have a very nice restaurant attached, which I haven't been to, but have heard very positive reviews about -- it's mainly Italianish food with a modern twist. The pub grub here is very good, with some different things (Cajun Chicken Sandwich, YUM), and with excellent chips. I can't rave enough about these chips, which are nearly potato wedges, nicely cooked with delicious seasoning. The main bartender/manager is a really friendly guy, and all the staff are pretty chatty and nice. They often have fun activities, both for adults in the evening and families at the weekends, like an American 4th of July party (yay!), and festivals. They provide accomodation, which some of my friends from the US took advantage of when they came over for my wedding. The rooms are all refurbished and nicely laid out, with comfy beds and decent WCs. Nothing astonishing, exccept when you consider the SUPER CHEAP price. The rooms are all a bit off from the pub, so the noise level also isn't too bad.

We're glad we bothered to go a little bit off the motorway, as it was a lovely place to stop. The food was excellent- a wide variety of pub favourites and more unusual stuff at reasonable prices. The atmosphere was friendly and fairly warm, it was all beautifully clean and quite cosy inside, and it was easily worth spending the 10 minutes driving that it took to get away from Tamworth motorway services. Recommended.

I got their later than everyone else, so I missed out on the food, but everyone else was full and impressed. The cocktails were good- I would probably rank them as "definitely better than Wetherspoons, but not as good as a proper cocktail place" App for ordering worked well, and staff were nice enough.

Both visits were on a Sunday during lunch and the food preparation was perfect. The Big Lounge salad boasts a delightful variety of flavors and textures. I really like the tarragon mustard seed vinaigrette as it brings a level of brightness to the vegetables and blends well with the creamy ripe avocado chunks. This past Sunday, I ordered the Sherbet Lemonade. At 2 quid something a glass, this beverage is spectacular and definitely worth the price tag. Think of it as dessert or nice virgin cocktail. The playful presentation and summery sweetness make it hard not to gulp the whole glass before the meal arrives. I really dig the decor in this place. It feels somewhat like a vintage 70s art lounge, with groovy wallpaper and large framed paintings covering the full length of the main wall. There is ample seating and comfortable chairs. Seating arrangements are nicely spaced to create privacy and patrons are welcomed to stay for an afternoon with board games and a mini-library. The lighting features are custom crafted from salvaged naval lanterns and the wall of windows facing the road provide a not-too-bright sunlit glow. This is a new go-to place for us!

Asparagus, wrapped in Parma ham topped with a golden tolled egg. Delicious. For the main, I went for home made corned beef hash. Brined brisket of beef, slow cooked with beetroot, (mainly to add colour), with a perfect egg on top. 10/10. It's not of the evening menu - apparently it's not good enough - but IF you ask nicely.... Desserts are known to be great here. You won't get a better chocolate brownie. Last night I went for an orange/almond cake with orange coulis/sauce. Brilliant. Please try this place. It's incredible value for money and excellent food.

There were easily three choices for each course which sounded delicious, making it really tough to choose. Most of my family chose to pay a supplement for the belly pork which was well worth it cause it looked delicious. I had roast beef which was also excellent. Additionally a decent choice of real ales and a comfortable bar area for pre/post drinks. For the price I literally can't imagine a better menu, it was excellent. My dad's only gripe was that vegetable sides didn't come with all the meals only the roast, but they happily provided extras when asked.

Stuffy it is not; this is special, yes, but relaxed - perfect for a family celebration needing a finer touch (and heftier bill). As the name suggests, this stand-alone restaurant at four-star Moor Hall Hotel, is decorated with oak panels, yet is not so wooden - in texture and atmosphere - that sweeping views of the grounds aren't afforded. But you'll be quite happy looking at your immediate surroundings without the need to gaze outside. The room really is impeccably presented. Prices start from £27 in the evenings, with hours of opening roughly between 7.30pm and 9.30pm, although variations on traditional lunches are offered during Sunday afternoons. Wine exaggerates the bill, but it's difficult not to order amid the setting. If The Oak Room proves just that bit too stuffy for some among your party, or even yourself, there is a far less formal bar located in the next room which makes for a pre or post-meal rendezvous spot. From there, the attractive outdoor seating is easily accessible so it should not be too long before you relax.

Just waiting for another one to arrive now - and decided to quickly post this review. We have never once been disappointed, the food is exquisite, the portions are good and they are really polite and friendly when they take your phone order. Prices are reasonable - it normally costs us about £25 for a starter, main course and accompanients for two people. Also they normally only take 30-45mins to deliver even on a weekend. Its top notch. The menu is really varied, and they not only deal in traditional indian cuisine but also what they call italian/french/indian fusion. Very contemporary. My personal fave is the duck shaslick - not normally a big fan of duck I find it greasy - but this is just right succulent and melts in the mouth. Will add to this once I have got round to 'eating in' - its on my very long 'must do' list so don't hold your breath this week. The venue actually looks quite promising - maybe a bit on the pretentious side - we will see. Just thought I would add to this as we finally got round to eating in here last night and it was excellent. The decor inside is actually not tacky as I thought it would be its reasonably understated, its kind of a nod to Art Deco but with alot more chrome to modernise. Nice. The waiters were kind of too attentive if anything - but then we were one of only two couples in there at this time. We ate at half seven which was quite early - so I can imagine it would have been alot busier later on. I had crab and weetcorn rolls for starter and Lamb Bhuna for main with all the usual extras and it was all delish. The lamb was succulent and the pilau rice was just right. The bill came to £40 ish for two with 3 drinks each. They even gave us a v.i.p card as we paid which entitles us to 20% off all next year. Bonus !
