Based on the atmosphere and quality of wine, I love this little spot. It is so cosy. We were the only customers in the store and received superb service. The owner runs this location and a few other shops, plus hosts food tents at festivals during Christmas. She came over to our table and made some wine recommendations and gave us a bowl of crisps on the house. My partner, Seth S., and I both ordered the Pinot Noir from Romania. It was delightfully full-bodied and smooth. The lighting is dimmed just enough to encourage good conversation and a comfortable atmosphere. There are two main rooms for seating, each with groupings of chairs or booths around bistro style tables. The art and decor feel like a brasserie. I would highly recommend The Deli for a delicious glass of wine (or 3) and great conversation with friends.

Breakfast Review:…read more One of the best Full English breakfasts in the Midlands! Its a wonderful deli, on the High Street in Boldmere, with outdoor seating - which is superb when the sun comes out! The breakfasts are awesome. Superb sausages, great bacon, exceptional bread, (the deli sells some of the best bread in Birmingham). 2 succulent sausage, 2 bacon, fried egg, 2 half tomatoes, mushrooms. toast, quality butter. Its one of the best in Birmingham, (I rate it joint 2nd). The staff are great, headed by Pip the owner and her team of assistants, (including sons). The only real problem with this place is that I always spend a fortune on their amazing cheeses, breads, cakes and pate's. Try it. You will thank me!

We got here early and were just looking for a traditional brekkie and a cup of tea. Granny's team were only happy to oblige. I had a sausage sandwich with a cup of tea and my husband had a bacon buttie with a coffee. As we had Frecks with us, we took advantage of the outdoor seating. Although the dog-less amongst you will be able to sit inside. Browsing the menu, we were astounded at the range of freshly prepared sandwiches, baguettes, toasties, salads and jackets on offer. Granny's Pantry are just so devoted to what they do they are willing to go that extra mile in order to make sandwiches an art form. In actual fact, they're willing to go that extra three miles as they even do deliveries! One more thing to remember... Granny employs her own personal baker, Floss! Floss is on hand to make a cake for any occasion and if Floss' cakes taste as stunning as Granny's sarnies, you'll be in for a real treat. Thanks Gran!

Three wee tables (and a couple more outside) are all there is to help you take the load off your feet, but you shouldn't struggle for space due to the popular takeaway service yielding more coming and going than sitting. And what is it people are taking away? It's soup, spuds and sarnies really; hot versions of the latter doing brisk morning trade. It's your butty buddy, then, but as the name suggests, this is no greasy spoon. The pantry - and possibly even Granny - side of things amounts to a large counter showcasing plenty of cakes, including individual French Fancies for 25p. And yet for all that, scones and a sponge almost seem like an after thought. Overall, there's a curious old-fashioned feel. Not retro, not affectation, just something that you can't quite put your finger on. It seems half-remembered from childhood, just maybe not your own. Have the pink Fancy, it might be 1983. Vintage Coke ads and posters from Casablance adorn one of the walls.... Here's looking at you Granny, I think this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Sixteen Kitchen and Bakery - Sixteen Bakery

So I've spend a lot of time (and too much £) at Sixteen's neighbour/sister Faculty and yet never…read moremanaged to make it here for a meal. I decided to remedy that after drinking a Faculty coffee here, using the cafe as overflow seating during a particularly busy time. I was entranced by the variety and looks of the food, and have eaten lunch there three times this week to ensure that their awesomeness is consistent. I'm happy to report that Sixteen Kitchen & Bakery is one of the most delicious and affordable sandwich shops in the city centre. Sixteen is the brainchild of the owners of Faculty, and supplies the coffee shop with their delectable desserts. The shop is joined with Faculty by an open wall, so you can easily order something from one or both and sit in either location. Whereas Faculty uses a bar and two seater table arrangement, Sixteen's seating is entirely on two long tables. This is perfect for large groups or office team lunches (I've seen a lot of work being done here) but can get cramped otherwise. In addition to making desserts for Faculty, the kitchen & bakery serves breakfast and lunch until the late afternoon. I haven't made it to Piccadilly Arcade early enough for breakfast (stops at 11AM), but lunch is good enough to make it a regular mid-day stop. I've ordered the kimchi and cheddar toastie, as well as the basil, pesto, tomato, and mozzarella ciabatta, and most recently the vegemite and avocado sandwich. The kimchi is homemade of course and has a nice balance between heat and actually enjoying the flavours of it. Good luck finding kimchi that tastes this good elsewhere in Birmingham! The ciabatta was done up right and while not blowing away my tastebuds, hit all the right notes. The vegemite and avocado with tomato and mature cheddar was pretty much what you would expect. Like marmite, you either love it or hate it! All of the sandwiches are made fresh daily and packaged on the counter for hygiene. Upon selection, they are placed in a press for finishing. The menu is not set, changing every few days depending on bread (from Peel & Stone) and produce (from the Bullring Open Market). Sandwiches hover around the £4 mark and are a great value especially for the larger ones. For an extra £1 you can add salad to your meal as a side. My only complaint at this point is the lack of beverages. Sixteen makes fresh pressed juices for £3.50 and that's it. If you want anything else, you'll have to head next door to Faculty (although tap water is free). They could do with adding some flavoured/sparkling waters or other canned/bottled drinks. Overall Sixteen is a wonderful addition to the independent businesses of Piccadilly Arcade and contender for best sandwich shop in Brum.

The store does have limited seating due to its small confines. The menus changes every day and are put up on the wall behind the counter using a sharpie and ripped up sheets of paper. They generally specialise in sandwiches and soups but also sell cakes or pastry to compliment. If you wanted a coffee to match their is a door leading through to faculty from the store side. On this occasion is purchased a toasted sandwich which was halloumi, pesto and basil on sour dough. It tasted absolutely great, the sandwich was toasted perfectly. The correct portioning meant flavours were great and not overpowering. It cost £4 which I think is very reasonable considering quality. If your waiting for a train or just need a quick lunch sandwich I would recommend sixteen kitchen!

The place is quite hidden away, and you might miss it if you're only walking up the Coleshill High Street. But if you park in Church Hill car park, you have to walk past L'Maiz to get to the main road. And it's definitely worth stopping by. Inside, you'll be immediately greeted by the Italian owner, who'll seat you in one of three tables. Yes, the cafe only has limited space, but I think this provides a great intimacy to the whole experience. Browsing at the menu, I was absolutely astonished by the wide range of food available. From hot roasts to toasties to breakfast to pasta, everything was freshly made by the owner himself. The pizzas (all of them!) particularly looked tempting, and I loved that you could get three size choices, and even just purchase once slice for £1 if you wanted! I did exactly this because I had eaten not long before. But if had I known how delicious the margarita was going to be beforehand, I'd have definitely bought a 9" (or maybe even a 14" for £9.50 if I was feeling particularly greedy). Next time I go in, I'm definitely trying the Hot Mexican Madness. It looks, sounds and smells amazing. Surprisingly for June, it was exceptionally cold outside; so I opted for a hot chocolate to accompany the pizza. The hot drink tasted exceptional, and beats any run-of-the-mill coffee shop version that I've tried in the past. No matter what time of the day, L'Maiz can cater for you. Personally, I must return for breakfast to sample the Full English (£3.50). It was also lovely to learn that the shop was named after the owner's daughter, which explained the homely, warm feel to the cafe.

My favourite has to be what became my ultimate hangover cure! The full English breakfast baguette. Proper sausages (not the cheap ones you often get in cafes), bacon, runny egg and even a few baked beans. Delicious and only £3.50. If you're really in need of a hangover cure, they also sell a range of soft drinks (I'd recommend the lucozade!) and cakes such as flapjacks and chocolate sponge. The lads who work there provide a great service, you can even call up to place your order in advance so you don't have to wait around if you're in a rush.

It had diversified as was, with breakfasts - all too rare in town - and jacket spuds becoming complemented by a business lunch service and also a basic catering set-up which afforded sandwich platters and buffets. And then... fanfare please ..... a delivery service - free to homes within a two-mile radius (customers not making the geographical cut must make a minimum order of about seven quid). It's a curious quirk of the world of hangovers that the one thing that will fix you - a brekkie sarnie - is the one thing you cannot face making. Let someone else now take the strain as you mumble 'sausages' from under your duvet. Call them back for lunch: can you say daily roast? That's right, pork, apple sauce and stuffing on a baguette... you can be having Christmas in June for less than a fiver. Salads are available if you want to look silly.

An old Victorian pub which has been updated through the years, The Boot is probably one of the better bets out of the four other nearby pubs (The Anvil, The Reddicap and The White Horse) if you're after a quiet night out. There's a pull-down screen which shows the football and a small garden out the back. It's the sort of pub where, if you've lived in Sutton for a while, you're bound to bump into someone you at least vaguely know. If you don't have the benefit of being a local, then it still has an easy-going vibe about it and you're not going to get stared at for being a stranger. Also, as The Boot is right next to Good Hope Hospital, parking at this pub can leave you feeling sick. The Boot Inn has a very decent beer garden situated at the front of the establishment - making it ideal to catch the sun and watch the world go by. Inside, The Boot is pretty roomy with plenty of tables and chairs. You'll never be stuck for a seat here even when it gets pretty busy, usually of a weekend. There is also a digital juke box, which can't be a bad thing, can it?
