"All-day breakfast - served until 2"... That alone was enough to make me love the place. But for those who need a little bit more to get them through the door, there is plenty to enjoy.
Three wee tables (and a couple more outside) are all there is to help you take the load off your feet, but you shouldn't struggle for space due to the popular takeaway service yielding more coming and going than sitting. And what is it people are taking away? It's soup, spuds and sarnies really; hot versions of the latter doing brisk morning trade. It's your butty buddy, then, but as the name suggests, this is no greasy spoon. The pantry - and possibly even Granny - side of things amounts to a large counter showcasing plenty of cakes, including individual French Fancies for 25p. And yet for all that, scones and a sponge almost seem like an after thought.
Overall, there's a curious old-fashioned feel. Not retro, not affectation, just something that you can't quite put your finger on. It seems half-remembered from childhood, just maybe not your own. Have the pink Fancy, it might be 1983.
