I hate to do this, but I have to be honest. This new version of Farm Stores is pretty underwhelming. For starters, I don't know why they were closed for so long. They never really communicated with the customers on why it closed for nearly a year. They just disappeared into thin air. Then all of a sudden it opened back up under ownership. I'll be the first to say that it's not the same at all. They don't have most of the things I used to purchase before the first one closed. For example, I used to always order Oreo vanilla shakes. Now they don't serve them anymore. I used to always stop there to get a few Powerade or Gatorade drinks for the road. They don't sell those anymore. The last time I stopped there for a Powerade, they said the only fruit-type drink available was Calypso. I reluctantly order one of the Calypso drinks and the kid proceeds to hand me a HOT one. It's 120 degrees outside and they give me a hot drink. I asked him why he gave me a hot Calypso and he said sorry and gave me a small cup of ice for my troubles. That's not going to win you any customers. I also forgot to add that I came up one morning to try the new chicken biscuit sandwich. This was around 830 or 845. So I was assuming that they'd have plenty of breakfast ready. Nope. They told me it was going to take 20 minutes to make the sandwich. Luckily I had to stop home and was going to pass by again, so I told them I'd be back. I reluctantly came back to get the sandwich. It was tasty, but it shouldn't have taken 20 minutes to make it. I'm willing to bet it won't take Tim Horton's 20 minutes to make a breakfast sandwich. I'm trying my best to support Farm Stores, but this new regime is clearly cutting corners on supplies and everything else the old regime had. It's not the same place as it was before. This new little store is an absolute gem! Not only do they have most of the basic grocery type items for that moment you don't want to go to a BIG grocery store, but they have a menu and food items that are in the Cuban side!!! Cafe con leche is AMAZING!!! French baguettes are crisp and fresh! You better buy 2 because once you start snacking on the way home it's hard to stop. Their Argentinian Beef Empanadas are my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE! I have tried the broccoli cheddar, chili chicken, loaded potato and clam chowder soups!!!! Yum! Thy have a beef and a guava type crispy pastry that are fresh and delicious. Their large cheese French bread was amazing too. One day I bought a Cuban sandwich called a "media noche " and OMG I haven't had one like that since I visited Little Havana in Miami!!! This place is a must try... If you go here try the orange juice and chicken empanadas!! This is freshest orange juice that you will be able to see being made and probably the sweetest oranges I've ever drank from. It will have you dreaming about orange juice. The chicken empanadas with the green sauce will have you coming back for round 2! They were so good. The lady working the store is incredibly sweet and patient. There was a slight wait, but she was doing her best considering she was the only one working. This is a hidden gem! Three stars is a bit generous given my experience, but I really like the concept of this place and the lady working was very friendly and helpful. I was hoping they had more produce besides eggs, but they don't -- the lady said it's in the works though. I didn't want the trip to go to waste so I ordered a cuban sandwich ($6.75) and a cup of lobster bisque ($5.19). The lobster bisque was okay -- lots of lobster flavor, but super tiny pieces of lobster that I almost thought there weren't any pieces in it. The cuban sandwich was a joke -- I like thinner sandwiches, but this was literally a single layer of thinly sliced deli ham, a scarce smattering of shredded pork butt, a couple thin pickles, I think cheese was on there but I could barely taste it, let alone see it, and the only sauce was a thin layer of mustard on both sides. I had to add meat and mayo to it to make it worth eating! The cuban definitely needs tweaking. Update: Jose, I would like to point out that I am not knocking the fact there wasn't produce besides eggs. I was merely pointing it out for people in case they are heading there thinking the location might have something along those lines, like I did. I asked my husband to pick up a cachito and some tequenos from the Katy Farm Store and was pretty disgusted with half of my meal. This was my very first time to try it. Cachito: when I cut it in half what I saw in side was greenish gray meat and a greyish paste that I think used to be "cheese". The ham was a very off-putting greenish color and it smelled SOUR/RANCID. I knew it had gone bad and was very disappointed and disgusted with what i got. :( Tequenos (mini): delicious! We expected a menu with a handful of items when we first visited the little store, but there were tons of awesome sandwiches, drinks, desserts and so much more. The brownies and blondies were INCREDIBLE, and nothing beats being able to get a glass of actual fresh squeezed OJ. The cheese rolls and massive Cuban sandwiches were fantastic, too. We can't wait to hit up the breakfast menu, too. Last little note - the staff was extremely attentive and very friendly. We will definitely be regulars going forward! read more
