Before heading to Mont Royal for a hike, my friends and I were looking for a cafe to start the day. We came across Farine et Vanille which had a lovely ambiance and great customer service. I ordered an iced chai latte and asked the barista for his recommendation, he recommended me this unique multigrain twist which had different kinds of seeds and honey. He accidentally made me a hot chai latte and so I ended up with two drinks ! The hot chai latte definitely worked better as the cold one tasted a bit like milk that had cinnamon toast crunch in it for too long. I really enjoyed the pastry though which was flaky and had swirls of honey throughout, I'd recommend this spot especially since the ambiance in the morning was very relaxing and it wasn't too busy in the area either.

Olive focaccia

As soon as you walk in, the warm, sweet smell of fresh bread, vanilla and cinnamon surrounds you. The place is cozy, with bespoke wooden benches and colorful pillows. Farine et Vanille makes you feel comfortable as soon as you walk in, and for a good reason. One look at their display of baked good should convince you that you're in good hands. I originally came in to check the conchas, but saw the gorgeous olive focaccia displayed on the counter and couldn't look away from them. The thin golden brown crust was speckled with salt flakes, and the inside looked moist and shiny. Each portion was huge! We got two conchas and one olive bread, which they kindly cut in three pieces for me. The conchas had a soft yeasty dough on the inside, and a sweet, crunchy top, generously dotted with vanilla seeds. However the star for me was definitely the olive bread. It was incomparable to any such bread I've had before. The dough had such great texture, so springy and beautifully light. Just the appearance of the air pockets was just to die for. Then the taste!! Gentle and fragrant with olive oil, with the saltiness of olives distributed in each bite. I would eat this forever, no kidding. A jewel of a place, enhanced by touches of Mexican culture and cemented by undeniable craftmanship.

Beautiful place, delicious food, and kind staff. There's really not too much more you could ask. From the breakfast (incredible salmon!) to the coffee, and the bread (family became addicted to conchas), the only struggle can be getting a place to sit during busy weekend brunch times. Fairly understandable. Short of that, it's easy to see why this bakery is gaining such recognition in a relatively short amount of time. The interesting mix of Quebecois and Mexican cuisine and ambiance is charming, welcoming and cozy. We were super happy to be so close during our latest stay in Montreal.

Kamut Bread

We have decided to encourage this small bakery 500 meters away from our home which reopened recently after being closed because of Covid. We have now become addicted to the Kamut bread freshly made every morning. It's like eating a small cloud; light, fluffy yet tasty! We normally get our baked goods from bakeries all around the city where there are crazy lineups... really there is no need to queue up this way. The very humble and sweet lady who owns this shop does an even better bread than all of those very trendy bakeries in my also humble opinion. Please get the Kamut bread! Game changer!

This place was hands down a highlight of my Montréal food scene experience. The shop itself is very cute and cozy, with just two small tables by the window and a few chairs. The décor is simple, and so are your choices, which honestly works in their favor. When you step inside, you get a direct view of the bakers working their magic, which makes the experience even better. We ordered a hot chocolate, plain croissants, chocolate croissants, and a slice of the Kouign‑Amann. If you like a dark, rich hot chocolate that's not overly sweet, look no further, this is the place. As for the croissants, both the plain and chocolate versions were good but fairly standard. However, the real star was the Kouign‑Amann. It was served warm, perfectly crispy, and had just the right amount of sweetness without being overwhelming. It was so good that when I finished my slice, I went back to the counter hoping for more but they were sold out. To be fair, I arrived around 2pm and they close at 3pm. Despite that, the line moved quickly, and the staff were some of the sweetest people ever. My only regret? I only bought one slice. I'd highly recommend this place, but make sure you get there early if you want to snag a slice of Kouign‑Amann before they sell out.

We both had a "tranche" /slice /portion of the flaky pastry originating from Brittany. While it does not look like the Kouign Amanns I've had before, it definitely tasted fabulous. We were not the only ones who thought so. While we ate our bounty at one of the two open tables, we saw person after person purchase whole galettes, possibly for an upcoming family gathering. The pastry had a sweet and crunchy crust and a buttery interior. Here, it does not resemble a croissant. Instead, the layers of dough were softer than the typical honeycomb structure of a croissant. Speaking of which, my sister also recommends the croissants here, which she used to have regularly when the shop was open more frequently.

I was intrigued, and since I can always go for some carbs I decided to head in and check this place out. Unlike most bakeries I visited, Boulangerie Guillaume has a much more modern look, and is larger than a standard bakery. Walking in, I was immediately greeted by stairs which led up to the main production area. All of the bakes were arranged on the back-wall perimeter of the space separated from the pedestrians by a glass wall. The color scheme was mostly black to contrast the bright yellow of the bags and signage. The arrangement of the bakes, combined with the color scheme and modern aesthetics, resulted in a stunning, visually striking presentation. I wasn't too hungry, but I can always go for some sweets and their date square looked good. I went with that, along with a cappuccino. The square was delicious - the dates were high quality, and the crust underneath was moist while maintaining its integrity. The cappuccino was also good, a great complement to the bake. Service was efficient, and overall I had a great experience at Boulangerie Guillaume. I definitely want to return to explore more of their menu - I noticed they had some savory items so perhaps for some lunch. Definitely one of the best bakeries I visited in Montreal.

I couldn't finish the Egg on Your Face, so I had the rest for lunch (it was almost as good cold!). But it was DELICIOUS. Everything was really tasty and the croissants are so flaky. The restaurant didn't provide a high chair for our baby, which was a bit disappointing. The service was good with our waitress checking with us to order and being prompt and attentive. Here is what we ordered: Grilled Cheese O+G (8/10) - the bread with the grilled cheese and caramelized onions were cooked well. The homemade ketchup had a sweet taste to it and was brought out a little colder than room temperature. I probably would have preferred the ketchup/tomato sauce to be a bit warmer. The Chicken Melt (8/10) - this sandwich was pretty big. It had grilled chicken in a creamy sauce, some Cole slaw (actually a lot of Cole slaw) and some dill pickles. The sandwich was a bit messy to eat and I think it had a little too much Cole slaw, but it was a good sandwich, nonetheless. Overall, I good experience with a few suggestions in my review that I think would have made it really great.

The Long Version: So I had never heard of Rossetti before. They didn't exist when I was living in Montreal (the 2000s) and after I left, my husband (who was still my boyfriend at the beginning) and I would return often (at least a few times a year until 2019) and I'm pretty sure they weren't around then. We took a few years hiatus from visiting Montreal and then when we returned in 2024, boom, Rossetti had 4 different locations in the downtown core! What's their origin story? I have no idea. Their website has no "About Us" section. All I know is they opened sometime between 2020 and 2024, lol. I tried their caramel eclair ($5.50). The caramel icing was really tasty, but I found the choux pastry and the custard filling a bit dry. They have cannoli, amaretti, financiers, croissants and tarts. They also have sandwiches and pizza. I was disappointed that they didn't have sfogliatella, my favourite Italian pastry. Oh, they also have coffees and teas. The interior is nice with seating to dine in. Service was neutral. I may return to try another item. Maybe at one of their other locations. Review #16 (2025)

While in Miami last year, my husband, mother-in-law and I became big fans of the Rosetta on lower Collins Ave and then once they opened the one by Lincoln Center in NYC, we began to visit that one often since it's walking distance. After climbing to the Kondiaronk Belvedere on Mont Royal, we decided we needed sustenance on our way back down and we spied Rosetti as we were walking back to our hotel. Since it looked very similar to Rosetta, we decided to stop in and grab a bite. The sandwiches and pastries were on full display and we knew we made a good choice. I had a Pizza Margherita which was huge...I could have shared it. I also had a caramel tart for a sweet treat afterwards. Others in the group had sandwiches and other sweets which they all enjoyed. There are some stools at a counter downstairs and a little more seating upstairs with a few low tables along with some high tops and counters. The ladies who worked there were very nice. We enjoyed our food and think it's a great place for a quick bite that's a bit elevated from traditional fast food.
