So many things we would love the purchase including prayer style candles with pop stars or celebrities on them which we loved. Came here because it was the closest bakery shop to where we stayed with a decent rating! The decor was lovely - definitely gave off a boho chic vibe! Adorable bakery in our beautiful old Montreal. The entrance is nicely decorated with summer vibe. Plants, and little light bulbs illuminating lightly the porch. There is a bench on the side of the door; and the writing"J'aime beurre" on it. It was simply adorable. Inside, the counter with all the sweet goodies in a glass display. On the wall, few goodies placed on the shelves like cookies in jar, tote bag and many more things. Even on the stairs, the writing"J'aime beurre" are on it. The service is very amiable. We ordered our foods and drinks; and our server told her that she will bring our drinks to us. We went to second floor, where the sitting are. It was nice and cozy. I had macaroons (pistachio, raspberry and Mango). Our macaroons aren't regular size than usual ; they are actually petite. For my drink, my choice was matcha latte. Everything tasted so good. This is a perfect desert place to indulge in diverse sorts of treats. I picked up a bag of shortbread cookies and six macarons which are great as gifts. The butter balls have a cookie like texture and taste amazing. The only reason I gave them one less star was because a cake I ordered for a special occasion was made by an apprentice and it was so bad I had to return it. During my sister's visit in the summer, I decided to surprise her with a high tea package. After a lovely morning of sightseeing in old Montreal, we made our way to Bar a Beurre, a charming and cosy bakery in the heart of the Old Port. The interior is gorgeous, plant and floral motifs everywhere. The seating upstairs is small and a bit of a squeeze but the decor with its bookshelves, greenery and brick wall, makes it feel very cosy and elegant. The girl serving us was very friendly and hospitable. She gave us a tea menu where we each chose our teas and were shortly presented with a big teapot each of the tea, gorgeous floral china cups and a mouth-watering two-tier display of fresh sandwich bites, scones, crossaints, lemon macaroons, chocolate bites and buttercream cupcakes! We devoured every single bite and were truly impressed with the quality of the delicacies and the service. About a 2-2.5: Bar a Beurre is a small little dessert and coffee shop, located off of Notre Dame. I specifically wanted to come here as I was curious about their 'boule au beurre' (an Italian butter 'ball' cookie). Behind the glass casing, they had a variety of different 'flavors,' such as apricot, confetti, pomegranate with orange, etc. I tried the pomegranate one, as that looked quite pretty with the tint of red and orange. The boule au beurre itself wasn't that exciting, as the butter cookie itself was a bit too dry and chalky; the jam in the middle was thick and quite sugary and overly sweet - it also tasted grainy from the sugar, as it seemed to not have dissolved all the way. The bakery itself is really cute - whimsical, with even bookcases featuring mugs and other gift items. Bar à Burre is a very nice and cozy pastry shop in the less busy part of old port. I was lucky to stumble upon it in March. I really enjoy the interior. The ceiling is high. All the seating is upstairs. There is an area with a bench and a couple of chairs as you enter upstairs. The shelves, little bookcase and the rest of the decoration give this a feeling of a living room. There are a few regular tables and high chairs along the "mezzanine". A couple of nice plants are located by the windows upstairs - I think that's the best spot in the house. The have a good selection of cookies and pastries. The almond croissant that I tried was deliciously crunchy and the sweetness was not overwhelming. Definitely recommend. The coffee was good too. The staff were very friendly and helpful in making decisions (though I imagine it would be very difficult to make a wrong choice). I thought the prices were reasonable. Such a cute cafe! We had made a reservation for a Saturday afternoon and there was a mix up and when we got there they had cancelled our reservations. It is always recommended to make reservations for high tea because they make the food based on the # of people who attend. We were 6 in total but the waitress was so accommodating that she was able to find us a spot upstairs. Because we were a larger group, she allowed us to move furniture around so that we could sit together. Once we were seated and ordered the tea, I was surprised at the size of the tea pot. We were able to get at least 6 cups of tea out of a pot and we all got to try each others teas which was really tasty and fruity. I was disappointed though because they were out of my 2 first choices. The food came out on those cute trays and we had 2 pieces of sandwiches each as well as a macaron, some pistachio cookies a second. The price was about $25 for each of us. Don't expect to get full from this type of meal. It's all about the experience! read more

I have been here for the high tea experience. Recently my husband and I were craving for some buttery croissant. He found this place again for us. Surprisingly they moved their location two windows away. After they moved, there are more seating and the place looks brighter. The food are high quality and delicacy. We both enjoyed our croissant. I'd rank this a below average tea spot. Days of research and planning with my friend went down the drain the minute I tasted their panini. Bar à Beurre requires reservation well in advance for the high tea, and I was rather put off by the misinformed staff who kept giving us wrong information. The tea was delightful but the macrons, cupcakes, panini and cookies were rather disappointing. I ordered a fried chicken panini which was not fresh, and a side salad with a rather questionable dressing. The frosting on the cupcake was lumpy and the cookies were hard. The only appealing factor would be the decor, but two thumbs down for the service and the food. I wouldn't recommend this spot to anyone read more

We were wandering around Old Montreal without a real plan and we happened upon this little gem of a bakery/cafe/coffee shop. What caught my attention was their adorable window display and the inside decor didn't disappoint either. It was so pretty, like the inside of a doll's house. There were a few tables and a counter to people watch outside the window. The delights behind the counter tasted as good as they looked. There were cookies, pastries, croissants and so much more and something for everyone. I had a hot chocolate that was so yummy! Since we stayed there, we were served in delightful tea cups. We were beyond happy in every way. The staff was so pleasant and they immediately helped us to feel at home. The service was great too, and everyone I encountered working there was really nice, fast, and yet still patient with my family. Wow what a cute little place, when I entered I thought I was back in Europe or maybe more like Prague. I just loved the decor. And the reason of my visit was that I heard they had those famous Macarons from France. I was treated a latte but not being a coffee drinker cannot tell weather it was good or not. I am a Tea guy!!! I had high tea here with two friends, and it cost us 21$ each. For that we each got a teapot (standard), 2 mini extremely tiny pieces of bread with garnish, 2 coin size sugar cookies, a mini macaroon, a mini cupcake, and a regular size scone with jam. For a combined price of 63$, the entire thing was probably worth more like 30$, we were still so hungry we had to get sandwiches on the side. I'm sure they have far better pastries than what they offer in their high tea as the macaron was average and the cupcake wasn't good at all, no flavour in the cake and the icing tasted like butter. In love with this place!! What a lovely high tea experience! It is situated near the Old Port and easily accessible by metro ( Champ de Mars). It takes 5 min to walk over there. This place is quite small. It only has one seating table on the 2nd floor and many individual seats. We booked our place at 10:30am on a Sunday and there weren't many people. We have purchased coupons through Groupon. 40$ for 4 people, 10$ each which is really reasonable for what we have and for the experience as well. We had a platter of assorted cookies and little sandwich (baguette). There's a great selection of teas. I had a coconut with agrumes which was not in the menu but the lady recommended it. Everyone had their own tea pot and they were big ! Enough to share for everyone! The lady who served us was courteous and polite. We kept saying "thank you" atleast five times everytime she comes by to serve us. Would definitely come back, but dont forget that you need to book beforehand because it can be crowded. read more

Man, everything looked so delicious. For a tiny little shop they sure had a large selection. It was a difficult decision, but my heart was set on the strawberry rhubarb bar. They had insanely big cookie sandwiches that looked too pretty to eat. Their specialty is the mini donuts sandwich which they call, "butter balls!" Two mini donuts held together by what I can only imagine is a variety of luscious buttercream. These butter balls come in all kinds of different colors and flavors. My problem is that I would want a dozen of these. They are seriously cute. Oh and don't let your sweet tooth fool you. They serve lunch, too! I didn't know so I grabbed lunch somewhere else so cannot vouch for the lunch. As for the strawberry rhubarb bar, the flavor was very good but it kinda just fell apart. You couldn't really hold it in your hand like a brownie which what I had in mind. We went to Bar à Beurre for their high tea experience. Au menu: a platter of sweet and salty scones, sandwiches, cookies, macarons and cupcakes, served with jam and fresh cream. Everything was delicious! The only downside: their French macarons were very thick and dense, not really what you'd expect. They had a varied selection of tea (we took matcha, which unfortunately wasn't whisked, so it formed some clumps...) The seating is actually upstairs, in a mezzanine that overlooks the rest of the store. It's bright and cosy. Unfortunately, I wasn't hungry anymore after tea time...
