Service was kind, but we walked in around 5:00 and it looked like they were closing up shop even though posted hours say 7:00pm. The place is ADORABLE and the treats and sweets are as buttery and delicious as they can be. The boule a beurre is for me, a throwback to a childhood treat, as buttery and decadent as can be. The staff is super nice and friendly, they are dog-friendly too - at this point my dog loves coming here as much as I do, as he always gets some of their amazing dog treats. The chocolatine (or pain au chocolat for French native speakers) is by far, and hands down the best I had in my 4 years in Montreal.

They offer a variety of heavenly treats such as brownies, cookies, macarons and mostly known for their boule a beurre (butter balls) which is a quite unique concept. The place is absolutely adorable and so inviting from the entrance, with the flowers hanging from the ceiling, to the store layout and the bathroom. Every detail is well thought out and so satisfying to the eyes. Let's not think about calories for a moment ;-) I ordered 3 boules aux beurre: Red Velvet, Hazelnut/ Nutella & Celebration. All were tasty and quite rich so if you are ordering more than 1 make sure to share the joy. Staff was really friendly and helpful. If you're in the area, check them out.

After a…read morelovely morning of sightseeing in old Montreal, we made our way to Bar a Beurre, a charming and cosy bakery in the heart of the Old Port. The interior is gorgeous, plant and floral motifs everywhere. The seating upstairs is small and a bit of a squeeze but the decor with its bookshelves, greenery and brick wall, makes it feel very cosy and elegant. The girl serving us was very friendly and hospitable. She gave us a tea menu where we each chose our teas and were shortly presented with a big teapot each of the tea, gorgeous floral china cups and a mouth-watering two-tier display of fresh sandwich bites, scones, crossaints, lemon macaroons, chocolate bites and buttercream cupcakes! We devoured every single bite and were truly impressed with the quality of the delicacies and the service. Everything was superb and so delicious - a wonderful and memorable experience overall :) Highly recommend!

That's where our parents' proverb "Don't judge a book by its cover" comes into play. The inside of the establishment is clean, well-lit, spacious and welcoming. Cleanness and efficiency have obviously been the priority when setting up the seating spaces. I'd like to congratulate this establishment for having such excellent, friendly and efficient service. I've never waited more than 2 minutes for my order. I've never had such friendly conversations with cashiers either. This is the first time in my life that the friendliness and warmth of baristas is sufficient enough to make me want to go back to a coffee shop. Laughs and smiles, joyful attitude, etc. By now, I'm sure everyone's thinking: "Alright we get it, you want to marry the cashiers. But what about the food man? Get to it." Well, the thing is, I despise coffee. This is one of the very few establishments where I'll drink coffee. The cupcakes are heaven and the cakes are mouthwateringly good. Seriously my dear readers, forget Starbucks, Cafe Depot, Second Cup, etc. This place is amazing. They even have specials such as 1 cup of coffee and 1 chocolatine for 3$. 3$ guys. That's insane... 2.50$ if you want a croissants instead of the chocolatine. [Insert spam of heart emojis] In my white girl friends' words: "I can't even... like O-M-G, I JUST CAN'T EVEN. I can't. Oooooh my god." I'm a University student that was born in a ghetto of Eastern Europe. That means I'll keep searching for the best bang-for-my-buck until I give out my last breath. This here, is an amazing place. They don't have the variety other coffee shops do but they excel at what they do. P.S. This review is to describes Desserts ETC and not "Don Taco", a Mexican food establishment with whom they physically share the space. I have a separate review for them. P.P.S. There is WiFi.
