Came to North Carolina to visit my mom and we wanted to spend our Saturday morning browsing the shops on Main street. Came to the Famous Toastery as a party of 4 at around 11am. It was super busy and there was a 20 minute wait. That must mean it's good! When our table was ready we got both a text and phone call which was nice. We were seated and greeted prompty, ordered our food, and then it went downhill from there. First and foremost, it was LOUD in there. Im sure it had very much to do with the time of day, but everyone is screaming over one another just to carry out a conversation. They give you cornbread with apple butter while you wait. It was okay. Everything was kind of cold, and the cornbread was bland, but the apple butter was great. Then our food came out. We ordered the classic benedict with potatoes, the biscuits and gravy with a side of bacon, the 'blah blah blah' omelet w/ sausage, mushrooms and cheese, and then the blueberry and cream cheese stuffed French toast with a side of well done bacon. First, three dishes came out, but the French toast never did. No one came to check on us throughout our entire meal, so we had to stop someone to ask. The kitchen forgot to make it. So three of us ate while one person just sat there. Secondly, all the food was cold. Not even a little warm, barely room temperature, it was cold. Despite the temperature, the benedict was decent, the eggs were poached perfectly. The potatoes were nicely seasoned. The biscuits and gravy probably would've been better if it was nice and hot. The gravy had a film on it cause it looked like it was just sitting in the kitchen for so long. The omelete was good, had a nice amount of all the toppings inside of it, just again, not even warm. Finally, the stuffed French toast came, and I honestly wish I took a picture because it was a joke. Just looked like two pieces of white bread, cut diagonally, smeared with a light amount of cream cheese woth a few blueberries thrown in. Stuffed French toast? No, that was toast with blueberry cream cheese. Also, the bacon that was ordered was not at all well done. Because the kitchen forgot to make the meal, they ended up comping the stuffed French toast and bacon. (Even though the check they brought to us, didn't have it comped and we had to have them correct it. Had we not looked at the check, we would've never known.) And as I mentioned before, no one checked in on us during the duration of the meal, I needed a refill and never got one. One of the food runners dropped my silverware on the ground, said they'd bring me a new one, and it never came. If this were just some shoddy, run-of-the-mill, basic diner, this would have made way more sense to me. But the fact that it was busy, we had to wait, and is really pricey, is mind boggling to me. The whole meal, had we not had a dish comped, and woth three drinks would've been $80! The experience was so bad and so overwhelming I didn't even take photos. And I always take photos! I was irritated the first time I left this review but cooler heads prevail. I was primarily irritated by the $6 Orange Juice (x2) and the service. I still think the OJ is absurd but I have been in here a few times since and the staff is very friendly and efficient. As far as the first visit goes, it was toward end of rush when the place was emptying out and people get tired. It's all good. The vibe here is also pretty cool. The famous toastery is the perfect place to get breakfast. The food is great, with a variety of different foods from cinnamon rolls to pancakes to breakfast burritos. The place itself is great, the town of Davidson is beautiful with a wonderful brick downtown area, and the restaurant represents this, with a casual but pretty environment. It's also a very friendly place where essentially everyone there is very nice. The service is great, all the waiters and waitresses are very kind and make great conversation. It's very popular and fills up if you get there after 9 or 10, but overall just a great place to get breakfast. read more

Five stars for the managment, kitchen staff, and great food that saved my wedding! I was supposed to get married in Asheville on September 28th but Mother Nature had other plans. Due to what can only be described as a series of miracles, we were able to leave the home we were staying in and the western part of the state. Feeling lucky, grateful and very humbled by the devastation witnessed, we decided to continue with our plans to tie the knot. My Dad arrived at opening on Sunday September 29th and shared our story with Brent. Brent immediately jumped into action creating a menu of sandwiches and sides to feed our guests. Today (December 5 2024) my wife and I had breakfast at the Toastery in Davidson NC at approx. 8:30am. We have had breakfast there many times before. Today had to be one of the worst break we ever had anywhere. We both had Eggs Benedict Classic. The eggs were barely cooked. We both had potatoes with our order. Everything on our plates were cold. Even the ham on the english muffin was cold and completely uncooked. The plate just looked awful and thrown together hap hazard. Just an all out terrible dining experience. This is such a gem right downtown across from Davidson Campus. Signage is very good and 2 hour parking is excellent right in front of the business. Staff accommodated our wish to set outside at one of two tables that allowed for a beautiful view of the town and people watching. Of course I think it's a bit safer too with COVID. The dining room is open and they were busy. You can use a QR code to order or they have paper menus. The breakfast/ brunch and lunch menu is available all day. It's large with a variety that can work for everyone. Our male waiter wore a mask and was very friendly to all our needs during the service. Other staff also assisted as it was explained they help each other out. Service was efficient with food hitting the table within 15 minutes after order. My avocado dish with eggs over easy and fried up potatoes was scrumptious! The coffee was great too! My daughters pancakes were huge with crisp bacon. This is easily the best breakfast on Main Street (or anywhere) in Davidson. The menu is so diverse and the ingredients are always flexible so you can customize anything... my go to's are a hot cuppa Joe in a ceramic red mug, The runner's omelette or the burrito, and if I'm feeling wild a single seasonal pancake. I really love the fresh salsa that comes with the burrito and I typically share the breakfast with my partner. Today, I actually tried the classic waffle for the very first time and it was a little bit dry but next time I would probably just order it on the lighter side because it was good! The portions are big and of course I can't go without recommending the most popular omelette which is called the avocado omelette - delicious. The atmosphere is country and laid-back... And the service is usually prompt. It's convenient that you can use a QR code and pay from your phone at the table. They get extremely busy on the weekends but during the week it's much easier to get a table during peak hours. Make sure to stroll down Main Street before or after breakfast and enjoy the charm that Davidson has to offer! During nice weather they have a large patio out back as well for extra outdoor seating that you don't initially see upon approaching the restaurant from the front. 3/31/2025 I ordered a BLT the bacon was over so over cooked and hard the bacon looked old not like it was freshly cooked on this day. So I ended up eating toast with lettuce and tomatoes. I left the waitress know when she came to take out dishes away and she apologized, which is not her fault. Upon receiving the check not even an acknowledgment from the cook not even a few dollars taken off the bill, I mean bacon is expensive and I couldn't even eat mine. This place was very unclear about what we were purchasing. We purchased a cup of orange juice not knowing (or being told) that it was non-refillable. The juice was $6 per cup in a small cup. After we had already been given our ticket to pay we asked for a refilled orange juice... so, she rang us up for ANOTHER $6 orange juice without telling us it would be an up charge. Well let me say they have a huge menu from vegan to healthy to not so healthy but yummy looking options I'm going in for the fall specials pumpkin waffles with a cream cheese drizzle side of bacon, my husband is not much for breakfast items at breakfast so a burger it is (hence the not so healthy option) and both were outstanding. The waffles were clearly made with pumpkin purée and no need for any syrup ! Went to Famous Toastery for the first time today. Food was excellent! Service and experience was exceptional! We will definitely be back. Wait was about 25 minutes for Brunch today which wasn't too bad for noon on a Sunday. They turn tables quickly and the food looked delicious as we were waiting. When she took our food order she offered some suggestions which we appreciated and then she brought us some fresh cornbread with yummy homemade apple butter. Fiancé ordered a blah blah blah omelette with cheddar and ham with a side of country potatoes and sourdough. Mama ordered a blah blah blah omelette as well with pepper jack, spinach, mushroom and onions with a side of grits and sourdough. I ordered the corned beef and hash crispy, with medium poached eggs, hollandaise on the side and sourdough. Also since it looked so good, we got an order of standard French toast with fresh strawberries and crispy bacon to share. As they brought out our food, the food runner accidentally knocked my fiancé's sweet tea down. Now this could have made this first experience a very bad one. But they were super apologetic and though a little wet, we totally understand accidents happen. Also probably partially our fault for having the drink on the end of the table. The food runner didn't see the drink due to all the food he was carrying. Anyhow they cleaned up the floor immediately and brought us napkins to wipe down as well. Being distracted with the spilling of the tea and the grumbling of our tummies, I forgot to take pictures of our untouched food but luckily I remembered before we finished devouring everything and will include that. Now in regards to the food it tasted just as good as it looks. Fiancé liked his omelette so much that by the time I had finished buttering and putting strawberry jam on my toast, his omelette was gone. Mama really liked her omelette but said next time she'll order with cheddar since the pepper jack was a little spicy. Even then, she ate the whole thing. Though we didn't finish it since we had so much other food to try, we all had a bite of her grits and it was seasoned well and delicious with a little extra butter added into it. I think the French Toast is made with brioche and it was light and fluffy and just mMmMm! Usually you have to ask for the syrup to be warmed but here they automatically bring you warmed syrup. My food was super yummy and I would definitely order it again. Eggs were poached medium so they weren't slimy but the yolk was runny and perfect. The corned beef was crispy on the outside and perfectly seasoned. Mama doesn't like corned beef and she thought it was excellent. I almost forgot about the hollandaise sauce since I asked for it on the side. But it brought the dish to an even higher level. Hollandaise was creamy and flavorful but light. I've ordered eggs benedict from many restaurants and their hollandaise sauce is probably the best I've had. Now though we were not at all expecting it, the manager stopped by to apologize again for the spilling of the tea and comped our entire meal. We tried to tell him no and that we didn't expect that at all and would be happy to pay for our meals but he said it was already taken care of. Since they did not allow us to pay for our check, we just left a great tip instead. We thanked our server again for the delicious food and great service. When we got there, we were told that there was a 20 minute wait. 40 minutes later, we were seated. Our witty and exuberant waiter brought fresh cornbread with homemade apple butter to the table. The cornbread was cold. It would have been better warm, but, it was still good. The homemade apple butter was not the smooth, creamy, "butter" like thickness that is the traditional apple butter. This apple butter had small chunks of apples with hints of cinnamon and other spices. I really enjoyed it! The three of us ordered various items from the menu. One of us ordered french toast, scrambled eggs, and two sausage patties. My other dining companion ordered the Runner omelette which consists of egg whites, turkey, roasted vegetables, and brie. It was served with a buttermilk biscuit and breakfast potatoes. My table mates were pleased with their meals. I had the Cornbeef Hash with two eggs over easy and hollandaise sauce. It was made from from real corn beef. Not that canned stuff! I really enjoyed the hash! I would get out without the hollandaise sauce next time. Our coffee cup and water glasses were never empty and if we needed anything, we would ask the closest waiter our waitress. This was my second visit to Toastery, the first being pre-Covid. Although I really enjoyed my food during both visits, my husband did not find his burger to be very flavorful this go around. This past weekend, I ordered a pretty basic omelette, which was fine, and the side of potatoes were excellent. I would have to order something else to better evaluate the food now. I was went to eat at Famous toastery l as I usually do and I was shocked to see the owner/manager accuse a server of doing an Order wrong in front of customers! Even the customers were surprised.. I think she could have pulled him aside..I could see he was embarrassedthen Come to find out it was the kitchen that messed up the order Not the server! Of course there are mess ups but it's so unprofessional to do it in front of customers! she could've gotten the Facts before she placed blamed! I think she needs to do better in her people skills..
