I strolled into this fantastic salon whilst visiting DC for a few days. I needed a quick manicure. I've done the math and in my lifetime, I've probably had 1,000 and this was perhaps the best. She took her time, took great attention to detail, and the price was very reasonable. It does not look like a five star four seasons salon but the quality of their work is just as good and I think much better than manicures costing three times the price. I look forward to returning the next time I am in town.

I followed my long-time nail technician, Emma, here and it has been a great experience so far! When you walk into the building, you have to climb a flight of stairs to reach the salon, and it isn't clearly marked so be careful. It's not the fanciest salon I've been to, but it's well-kept and clean/sanitary. The salon can be a bit crowded and tight at times due to the size of the space, but the service is always top notch. Once seated with your technician, they have a nice selection of beverages for you to choose from while receiving your services. There is also a good selection of color options - if there's something you want, they likely have it. I appreciate that they use disposable liners in their pedicure tubs and sealed/sterilized utensils for each client. Pricing is on par for the area, but please note that there is a credit/debit card fee. You can pay with Cash/Venmo/etc for no additional charge and they make it convenient by providing QR codes to electronically pay. My tech Emma cares about what her clients want and/or need and strives to be sure that you are not only happy with how your nails look, but also that your nails are healthy! I've been getting my nails done for over 25 years and Emma is the absolute BEST technician I've ever had. I can EASILY go 3 weeks in-between visits with no lifting or peeling of my nails. I've never had a technician that cared like she does to make sure it is right and will last. Emma has never attempted to "upsell" me and, in fact, will tell me if I DON'T need something when I ask. I honestly can't say enough good things about her, she is simply AMAZING! Be warned, parking is pretty much non-existent in the immediate area. There is parking there, but it's been fully occupied every time I've gone. With that being said, if you're willing to walk a few blocks, there is street parking to be found. The salon is also just a couple of blocks from the Dupont Circle Metro station if that's your preferred mode of transportation. Overall, I've enjoyed my visits to Famous Nails Spa and wanted to share because quality nail salons/techs are REALLY hard to come by so Give Famous Nails Spot a try!

If you do not use the gel polish, they will get mad at you and not give pleasant good service and instead just mean and not friendly. Then she explained to me why I should pay more, I don't have to wait for it to dry and walked away. It took two minutes to dry and she wasn't attending to me anyway. I paid $52 + 1.50 convenience fee ( incl. fix nail & gel removal(clear) & French). I am so tired of nail technicians telling me what I should do with my money to benefit them. It is real easy to be polite and do a good job.

An update on these horrible nails- two weeks later they've grown out and you can see even more how horrible the polish and shape is. Black specs of dirt embedded in the polish and the gel, massively misshapen, and one nail broke (I had my previous set for 3 weeks and they were still perfect when I came back to have this hack job done). Will never go here again.

Kelly did the most AMAZING job on my nails today! Dip with tip & gel French (5 colors too!). She's the best. Thank you Famous Nails!

I searched for a new DC nail tech after my last one moved. I saw one review about someone's…read moremanicure chipping after several days and I can confirm. I went on a Sunday morning and found the front desk a bit frantic despite there being 3 people working there. One pedicure tech finally sat me (for my appointment) but the foot bath wasn't functioning. Amber was my tech and moved me to another chair. While she was pleasant I thought the charge of $120 for a gel manicure and pedicure was too much given the lack luster environment. However, what cemented for me this place is horrible is that within 2 days the gel manicure chipped! First it was 2 nails. Now, 4 days later 3. I called and they wanted me to come back there to have them fixed. I said I would never return and they gave me some money back as I insisted. But the continued deterioration of the service after just days is clear this isn't good good nail spa. I don't recommend it and I wouldn't return.

Gloss Bar is a solid, if expensive nail salon. I went with friends and we got a variety of…read moreservices. While across the board the results were good--color was applied well, the nails were nicely shaped--we felt like we didn't necessarily get service that matched the price. There were no hot towels, none of our manicures came with a hand massage, and we had to ask for our complimentary beverage. None of that is a deal breaker, but for $55-75 a service (even a basic polish manicure is $45!) it would have been nice to have more than the bare bones! One outlier, my friend who got a pedicure loved her leg massage. I'll also note while I called and made a reservation and received a confirmation text AND confirmation call, when we showed up the front desk didn't know who we were or check our reservation. Again, not really a problem, but Gloss Bar is definitely trying to market itself as a luxury spa nail salon, but the experience is pretty comparable to any old nail salon.

When one of my…read morenails chipped as I was leaving, she insisted on fixing it and took such kind care to make sure I was happy with what I was leaving with. I got a gel manicure and pedicure for $75 before tip. If I'm in the Georgetown area the next time I need a pampering, I would definitely come back.

I took the photo after…read moreunrolling my jeans to show how wet she got them instead of minding how much water she was splashing up my leg during the pedicure. I've been getting my nails done for over 25 years. I think I know how to roll up my pants if wearing them and obviously was taken aback when she wet them carelessly and it was in the dead of winter! So I left freezing until I could get to my car. The more appropriate response from "the owner" would have been to apologize than giving excuses bc this was, in my 25 years of getting my nails done, one of the worse experiences. And it was worse bc I brought 2 guests with me who were equally disappointed (no skilled techs available for our appt who could perform certain nail techniques) and they were rightfully flabbergasted by his response to my review as well. I hold firm that you should look elsewhere for better service and selections. Update: The owner has conveniently removed his original response which was snark and very rude. And has left an updated one here. Yes I'm responding to an older review bc your rudeness has not been forgotten. And I just learned I could add an update to your initial assertion that I should have worn better jeans. Along with many other excuses and no apology. I brought multiple women to your business that evening. None of us have ever returned nor do we ever plan to.
