Bbq chicken lunch special, coleslaw and corn muffin
    Joan R.

Had lunch here with some friends who have eaten here several times. A typical bbq menu, comfortable atmosphere and a friendly waitress. We ordered lunch specials. Ours , bbq chicken with a side. Our friends ordered the rib and chicken lunch special. Meals came with a corn muffin. Everything was tasty and plated nicely. Food was good, not exceptional and I prefer other types of bbq.l; however I am always glad to try different bbq restaurants when I can.

It's been awhile since I've been to a Famous Dave's. The Mac and cheese was just what I remember. Delicious. When ordering ribs or brisket, Always order NO SAUCE so you can pick one on the table or go dry if you'd like. The brisket was "ehhhh". My BBQ crave has been satisfied.

Last weekend we made a pit shop into Famous Dave's. My husband dined here once before and loved it. It was my first time. Everyone was super friendly and country jams were playing in the background the whole time. It's a casual and comfortable scene. He ordered the pick 2 platter, and thought the burnt ends were the best thing since sliced bread. The platter was well worth the price. I ordered the Texas Beef Brisket sandwich. It wasn't bad at all. But, as someone who has dined at Sonny's, Mac's Speed Shop, Jim & Nicks, and The Smoke Pit several times over the years, I've had my fair share of beef brisket. The beef brisket at Famous Dave's was actually good, but it wasn't on par with some of the other aforementioned BBQ spots. A delicious beef brisket sandwich is typically made with slow-cooked beef brisket that has been marinated. The beef is juicy, flavorful, and melts in your mouth. It's also served on a fresh, toasted bun. On the other hand, a "decent" beef brisket sandwich has beef that is a bit tougher. The sandwich is served on a bun that fails to provide any added flavor, and it simply lacks the mouthwatering appeal you're used to when it's perfect. My experience with this brisket was definitely the latter. Fortunately, the sauces made it much better. All-in-all, the dining experience and service were excellent, so I'll eventually return to give the brisket another shot.

Wow! I really miss this restaurant being in Augusta. Famous Dave's across from Carolwinds, SC is an oldie but goodie's. I frequent this restaurant weekly when I lived in the mid-west, once I move to Augusta my wife and was excited that a famous Dave's was here. I had the brisket and Burned ends, the burned end where like pads of butter( so tender) the brisket was tender with a nice sauce. My wife had the St. Louis style ribs and she simply loved them. Shot-out to the corn on the cob, really good. Our waitress was super friendly and accommodating (wish I remembered her name). The atmosphere was dim however TV's at the booth seating was great. Remember ya'll Famous Dave's is good BBQ.

We had a good time recently at Famous Dave's BBQ. We were greeted as soon as we entered and although the restaurant was full, there was no wait. Our waitress was so nice and helpful. She was very attentive to everything we needed, but did not hover. The food was good. The menus is typical bbq, but they have their twist on everything. They have spicy pickles and Mac n cheese with jalapeños in it. One of my favorite things is their cornbread muffin. Even my husband loves it, and he doesn't usually like cornbread. You need to try it!!

Dave Andersen didn't grow up dreaming he was going to be famous. According to their website, he was just a Native American kid at the bottom half of his high school class, without a whole lot of opportunities. His teachers must have wondered, "where is this kid going to land?" The unknown ingredient in education is the power of dreams and perseverance. He watched his father and learned where the best BBQ was found, how it was made, and applied his skills to perfecting it. 50 years later Dave is indeed famous (and wealthy), and his BBQ is what made it happen. He's not just famous, though. He was also former Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Indian Affairs and the founder of The LifeSkills Center for Leadership, a 501(c)3 which provides leadership experiences to at-risk and underprivileged Native American youths. He is a giver. Nice. Passion and perseverance and dreaming about the future is within us all. Stepping out and creating, however, is something that takes risk, tenacity, and others to invest in you. And luck. And faith. And in Dave's case, decent food, which I like, too. So, in the mood for some good ol' Q done the way that made Dave famous? Got the smoke just a bellowing on my "Give 'em a whirl" meter. Chow down here.

Texas Beef Brisket With Wilbur Beans and Grilled Pineapple

This is my favorite BBQ Chain and I'll put their brisket up against other brisket I've had throughout my travels. On this visit, they did not disappoint. It's smaller than most locations I've been to. I started with an order of Burnt Ends. These were huge chunks of fatty, melt in your mouth meat served with onion straws, pickled red onions, and hellfire pickles. I wish the chunks were a little smaller and a little more crispy, but they were delicious. I wish it was an Add On meat though. Appetizer was kinda pricey compared to the dinner. For the meal, I had their brisket dinner. I've tried all of the other meats before and all are good in their own way, but the beef brisket is always sliced, juicy, tender, and goes great with the Texas Pit BBQ sauce. It had a magnificent smoke ring! I paired it with the Wilbur Beans and Pineapple Steaks to try and keep the carb count down. I may have eaten some of the texas toast though. It was an accident, I swear! I don't have any of these near me, but stop whenever I can. I was in an out very quick on a Tuesday night. Famous Cat (my waitress) kept the refills coming and had me on my way to my hotel in about 30 minutes.

Mounted game fish, moose, and deer heads give it that hunting-lodge vibe, which actually makes it a fun place to hang out and watch sports. We started with the Billionaire Bacon appetizer--six slices of bacon described as thick-cut, hickory-smoked and candied with brown sugar, red chile flakes, black pepper, smoked paprika, and cayenne. The flavor description was accurate, but the bacon itself really wasn't thick-cut and could've been much crispier. For the price, I expected better. If it had been thicker and crispy, it might've been worth it, but I probably won't order that again. My girlfriend ordered the Southwest Salad, and that dish absolutely delivered. It was a heaping portion topped with perfectly cooked sliced sirloin steak and shrimp, plus mixed greens, carrots, pico de gallo, roasted corn, black beans, pepper jack, and a jalapeño honey vinaigrette. She absolutely loved it. She also got a side of coleslaw, which was surprisingly delicious and a great addition to the meal. She paired everything with the Dirty Blonde beer, which definitely made up for the disappointing appetizer. I went with the naked garlic Parmesan wings and a side Caesar salad. Both were delicious. The wings were fried perfectly--crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside--and the flavor was spot on. I was very satisfied with them. Service was great as well. We actually had two servers because one was in training, and both of them were attentive, friendly, and made sure we were taken care of throughout the meal. Overall, I'd rate our experience a 4.5 out of 5. The food, drinks, service, and atmosphere were all really good, and we had a fun time. If not for the underwhelming Billionaire Bacon, this would've easily been a full 5. We'll definitely be back--just skipping that appetizer next time.

That's exactly what drew me to The Southern Pecan in SouthPark. Here in the South, they call it country fried steak, and I'm happy to report this one did not disappoint. I met a colleague there for lunch, and everything about the experience felt easy from the start. The restaurant is located in Phillips Place, a lovely little shopping area that feels a bit polished and upscale--with shops like Orvis, Tory Burch, and even a Restoration Hardware restaurant nearby. They do offer valet parking, which is a nice touch, though honestly parking is easy enough on your own. We had reservations through OpenTable and were seated on the patio, which was absolutely delightful for this time of year in Charlotte. The weather was perfect, the setting was relaxed, and the service started off warm and welcoming right away. Now, the food. The country fried steak was beautifully cooked--crispy on the outside, tender inside, and served with creamy mashed potatoes and gravy that hit all the nostalgic notes from my Texas upbringing. I paired it with a vegetable side (I believe it was broccoli or corn), and it was a classic Southern plate done right. We also enjoyed a couple of cocktails, and to finish, we split a praline bread pudding, which felt like the perfect Southern ending to the meal--sweet, comforting, and indulgent without being overwhelming. The staff was friendly and attentive, and one of the things I continue to appreciate about Charlotte is how easy it is to connect with people. We even chatted with diners at nearby tables, which added to that welcoming, community feel that makes dining out here so enjoyable--especially for someone coming from the Bay Area. Prices felt fair for the quality, the setting, and the portion sizes, and overall the experience left a great impression. Bottom line: If you're craving a solid Southern classic like country fried steak--or just want a relaxed patio lunch in a charming part of SouthPark--The Southern Pecan is definitely worth a visit. And as someone happily eating my way through Charlotte and the Southeast, this stop was another reminder that the journey has been a delicious one.

It was already quite busy when we arrived and it's not clear where your parking options are. People are pulling up to the entrance and dropping people off so it gets jammed up and chaotic, of course people are running late so those BIG Yukons and Suburbans are making it a challenge to navigate a small entrance area. You would THINK they would at least have a Valet option of Sat/Sun during Brunch. To park, go BEHIND the restaurant on the street to the left and you'll see some free parking options that are close and walkable. We asked for a table on the patio and were immediately seated. The bar was already buzzing with solo diners enjoying their Mimosas. The patio is NOT that big, a little over crowded and table are very close with not much space in between. There was a LARGE group of 'FUN' ladies right beside us enjoying their MIMOSAS, dropping the 'F' bomb from time to time and making a LOT of noise. What can you do? Nothing but try to make the best of it and just start talking LOUDER like everyone else. The OVERHEAD heaters were way too intense so the Staff was very responsive at our request to turn down the heat. We shared the BBQ Shrimp Starter which was SO good, I highly recommend. I had the Gumbo and Michelle had the beet and goat cheese salad. We both had the Red Fish which comes with smashed potatoes and broccoli. The potatoes were so BLAND, the broccoli had NO seasoning. The Red Fish wasn't that great of a flavor and not very tender, not easy to cut, had to use my knife at times to get a bite. Kinda disappointed, I lived in N Orleans for a couple of years and it was always so good there. The biggest disappointment was the Gumbo. It had all the right ingredients but the ROUX was to strong, dark and heavy. It actually gave me indigestion afterwards. The service was OUTSTANDING. Our Server was Daylean, she was so nice and helpful with the menu and kept our refills coming.
