I recently met a friend here for dinner. It was a week night, at dinner time and the place wasn't too busy. The Hostess seated me right away while I waited for my friend to arrive. The vibe was tranquil and casual. Autumn, our server, came over within minutes to take my drink order. Soon my friend arrived and we were ready to order. I ordered tea and the baby back ribs with no sauce which came with 2 sides and corn muffin. I only wanted the ribs so the sides and muffin were packed to go...and went home with my friend. The food came out quickly - I would say that we had food on the table about 30 minutes after I first sat down. The ribs were okay - they were a little bit dryer in some areas than expected but not inedible. Adding a little bit of BBQ sauce made the dry bits less noticeable. Throughout the dining experience, Autumn returned several times to make sure that things were ok and to see if we needed any drink refills. She was a good server to have, I recommend asking to be seated in her section if possible. Otherwise, it was a decent experience and I would consider dining again. read more

It is so sad to see what has happened. First off, all the staff was great, but the food is not. The St. Louis Ribs have so little tough meat on them that we sent two back and the replacements were no better. The brisket was the biggest disappointment, as it was not recognizable as brisket and looked like slices of dark spam with less flavor. The Wilber Beans were blander without any meat. The Bread Pudding is hanging in there, but can't carry the weight for the rest of the food. read more

I'll go in the middle of the road for overall service and food. I sat at the bar and the bartender couldn't be more accommodating. But where I knock the couple stars off is the food. Maybe my expectations were too high since the last time I ate at a Famous Dave's was over 10 years ago in South Dakota. We ordered and the salads came out fast. Side salad with italian and a caesers. Both were good. Then the rest of the food came. The bbq chicken was very nice, cooked well and not burned like a lot of bbq chicken tends to be. The brisket was dissapointing. Small portion, fatty and not much seasoning. The corn muffins are awesome. The baby back ribs were very fatty and could have used a little more cooking. The st louis style ribs were excellent. The portions for the prices charged seemed quite small and they were super stingy on the french fries. They bring your food out on a metal tray and for a $20-30 meal, the tray was half empty. Wtf? Corporate has taken this place down another notch. Fewer selections for side dishes. No collard greens in a bbq joint, who thought that was a good idea. Coleslaw recipe has changed as well and not for the better. The ribs were tasty but I have never seen "baby back" ribs with bones that big. We were there on a Sunday and the place was nearly empty. Pretty ok for dine in, takeout out or a catered party. I've had Famous Dave's a couple of times now. It's ok for a franchise rib joint. It's neither sublime nor crap. It's good, not super authentic or knock your socks off great, nor is it mediocre. The coleslaw is really good, very rich and just right edge and tang to it. It's zesty and I like my coleslaw zesty. Mac and cheese is good, but definitely a little different. They add corn to their own recipe. I don't get it, but it's ok. It makes for extra crunch, I suppose. To each his own, I say. The bbq ribs, the mainstay of any rib restaurant, are okay. The sauce is good, the profile of flavors seems right and the portions are good. My ribs have always been cooked properly, no complaints on this. Are they award winning and a masterpiece? Nah, but they're good enough, relatively tasty and filling and the sauce is good, if not particularly wowed by their taste. During week 5 of stay-at-home self-quarantine (thanks, COVID), my family and I had this sudden and unexplainable appetite for BBQ. We drooled over the take-out menu and decided on 2 orders of the 2 Meat Combo and an extra half-slab of ribs. The beautiful thing of the Meat Combos is that you get to choose from a decent variety of meats to fit your desires, so we picked the Southside Rib Tips, Brisket, the Georgia Chopped Pork, and some more Ribs with sides of Famous Fries, Creamy Coleslaw and Wilbur Beans. The meals were delivered by a courteous Doordash driver within 10 minutes of the promised delivery time, so kudos for that! The Tips were juicy and tangy, the Pork was gone so fast I didn't even get to try it (must have been great!), the Ribs done just right. The Brisket was done well, tender and lean, whereas I have to admit I prefer mine "wet" with a little more fat. Out of the sides, the Beans were my personal favorite. The server was fantastic and did a great job on drink refills. I have ordered takeout from Famous Dave's before but this was my first experience dining in. Anyway, the food was okay. It came out fast and was barely warm. The chicken seemed undercooked and didn't have much flavor. I did like the pulled pork though. The bread that was under the pulled pork was tough - didn't even touch it. The corn bread had good flavor. Our waitress was good and checked on us a couple of times during our meal. There were several other members of the waitstaff that seemed to like hanging out by the hostess stand. That was irritating as they were being loud. I arrive to a line of cars out of the parking lot, onto Miller Rd for some distance, with another 50 people waiting outside. Never spoke to 1 employee for over 30 minutes. During that 30 minutes, I saw 3 orders come out.....3. They had no plan for this and no way to organize it. I can be patient if I at least understand there is some plan or strategy. After the police arrived, an employee finally came out to tell us they were over 2 hours behind and offered to cancel orders. They should have only taken orders that they can handle.
