Excellent food. We had the 1/2 slab pork ribs, Mac and cheese, collard greens, 1/2 chicken and baked beans. The pork ribs were amazing. They were falling off the bone and juicy. Paired with the barbecue sauce and they were heavenly. The Mac and Cheese is by far the best Mac and cheese I've had at a barbecue restaurant. It had an elevated flavor and was extremely creamy. The 1/2 chicken was extremely juicy and was falling off the bone also. The collard greens and baked beans were barbecue staples that paired well with our meal. The owner was walking around greeting guests and made sure we had an excellent experience. She was very warm and accommodating. I left a google review with my opinion on the poor quality of their service and food. the owner responded to my review nastily and made it so I couldn't respond. my original review; My family and I tired this place for the first time on 4/19. The service and terrible from the start. I had coupons two for $5 off $25 . We bought at least $100 in food so I asked the woman at the register, who I later found out was the owner, to ring it up separate to utilize both coupons. She told me "that's too much work" then proceeded to ask me how to use these coupons. She was rude about me wanting to use the coupons and couldn't configure the coupons they had created. Later when we sat down she came to find us to them try to talk to us about bringing catering order her way, basically marketing as we were trying to eat. The entire visit she stuck by us talking about herself and her work , some may say hospitality but it was almost as if she knew she had done wrong and or she was watching us for some odd reason. Later that evening we were all sick. The meat had to have been undercooked. I will not go back. Very unimpressed and I felt very disrespected. her response; Tiffany....yes...I remember those coupons and you. The coupons that said on the back 'offer is NOT valid with any other discounts, coupons, specials or on holidays. One coupon per person/table per visit.' After I had your order completely rang up....you insisted that both coupons be used. I told you that it's for one order...and you then said that I could just take off items and you would do two separate bills. Found this place on way back west from a soccer tourney. Mostly because it was safe to eat at for my wife who has celiac. First off - the potato salad. Phenomenal! I'm a potato salad snob. The BBQ was decent; I met a friend here. It was definitely more expensive than most of the local BBQ. We love Scratch BBQ! This was our second time there and we really recommend this place. You order food cafeteria style which means you get to try a little of everything if you want to, which we love! The food is always excellent! We haven't had anything we didn't like. The first time we went, we got the chicken and it was a little bit dry, but the owner came out and let us know she knew it was dry and she brought us more. The service is always excellent, the owner is always around making sure things are running smoothly. Tonight they had some great music playing and their happy house is a dollar or two off of all their drinks which is nice. Drive straight PAST Chick-fil-A to try food that is authentic and tasty. My husband, 7-year-old, and I devoured some pulled pork and ribs. The four different sauces were excellent. I was excited about the collard greens when we ordered, and they did not disappoint. My son and husband really liked the mac and cheese. Coleslaw was good, but the winner as far as sides was the sweet potato casserole. Topped with a brown sugar sauce, even my kid tried it and said it tasted like candy. I only wish they had plates for sharing what was on our tray more easily. A dedicated, self-serve water station would be nice too. The guys at the front were very friendly. The flavor was really good. The problem was, about 40% of my full rack of ribs was was not edible. Most of it was hard and burned. Look at the piece I'm holding. It's burned to a crisp. My wife and I stopped at Scratch BBQ for the first time today. We were met by a very friendly staff with lots of recommendations. We decided to try a bunch of different meats and sides since it was our first time. We enjoyed the brisket, sausage, pork ribs, beans, collard greens, sweet potato casserole, potato salad, mac & cheese, cornbread, and Peanut Butter sheet cake. Let me start with the brisket...it was amazing. My wife's first comment upon trying it was "You're going to have to get your own brisket, this is mine now". It was among the best I've ever had. The smoked sausage was very close behind. The way they smoked it made everything inside so tender and delicious. Definitely eating this again! The ribs were great and had a nice crust on them. Very hard to compete with the brisket and sausage, but they were close. The sides were spectacular. The beans and collards were awesome. Both cooked perfectly. The potato salad was delicious (big chunks of potato and not too much seasoning). The mac & cheese was delicious - way more flavor than box mac and cheese. The sweet potato casserole was kind of a rough mash and was very good. We would have all of them again! The cornbread and peanut butter sheet cake...both awesome. The cornbread must have honey drizzled on it as it cools. It had a slight sweetness and a great crust on the outside. The peanut butter sheet cake was fantastic. It's not too peanutty, but a great flavor. We got some of their raspberry puree with it...that was like a next-level flavor boost. The location used to be the Fudruckers right off Miller Road. First visit tonight at 6 pm, on a Saturday. They had a 'band' so loud I couldn't hear the staff when placing the order. While paying, I asked if it could be turned down, but it wasn't and my husband and I couldn't even talk during our meal despite sitting as far back as possible. I get having a band for entertainment, but way too loud and too early. My husband and I split a full rack of ribs ($32) which were very good. Mac and cheese was tasty and the corn bread was excellent. I got the brussel sprouts which were way too oily. The sides were $4 each and portioned for one. Tonight was the third time that I had the pleasure of dining here but my first time bringing my wife along for the experience. Food quality was excellent and the entire staff under the leadership of Jeannie did a great job taking care of all of our needs. Jeannie was very pleasant and courteous and made us feel right at home during our visit. We tried the brisket nachos, the smoked sausage, and a pepperoni pizza. All items were excellent. I wanted to support this place because it's local to me. I got a half a slab of ribs, a half a sausage link, and a half a pound of brisket with an individual side of mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, greens, and two pieces of cornbread and it cost $66. That is extremely expensive to me for a small grocery sack of food. The cornbread was really dry and not in a good way. The greens had no flavor. The brisket was more fat than meat. The ribs were good they fell right off the bone. The mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese I couldn't really tell which was which they were both whipped to the point where you couldn't tell if there was noodles in it. Macaroni and cheese definitely didn't taste like macaroni and cheese. It was just all sort of bland and overpriced. I ordered via DoorDash in the service was great. They did get it to me on time. It was still hot. I've seen pictures of the outside of the building and it looks like it has plenty of parking and plenty of seating. Perhaps it's better if you dine in. You could tell the meat was smoked. It had a desirable smoke ring it just was really lacking and flavor and the fat to meat ratio was off. Definitely not the best barbecue I've ever had. We were pleasantly surprised with a nice find for BBQ. We took a little drive up 75 to try a new place. Glad we did. The sliced brisket and pulled pork were so good. Moist and smoked just enough. Cornbread was scrumptious. It is a sweet variety. Collard greens were excellent. They are not bitter. This is a quick-serve menu. There is plenty of seating, a bar, and great food. I had dinner tonight at the new Scratch BBQ in Flint. Here is my review. My first impression is the menu. I have never been to a BBQ that didn't have a sampler platter or dinners. You have to order by the 1/4 pound and up for each protein and separate sides. I spent $25 for a 1/4 pound of brisket and 1/4 pound of pork rib + 2 sides and cornbread a drink. The sides were Mac and cheese and string green beans. The Mac was great, sadly the green beans were inedible and I immediately returned them and chose cole slaw. The beans were over cooked and the ends were left on. I couldn't cut them with a fork. The brisket was fantastic and I highly recommend ordering it by the slice...very thick and tender. The pork rib had nice bark on the outside but was underdone at the bone, my piece was not what I would call fall off the bone. It was more like rip and tear. The Cole slaw was heavy on the apple vinegar flavor but good. The owner came to my table after replacing my cole slaw..(the first order was drowning in liquid and I complained) So what's my conclusion? I suggest changing the green beans from string to cut with bacon so they would stay fresher longer and serve the cole slaw strained instead of with a ladle. Simple with more flavor, less complex, drop the spices. Overall I give them a 6 out of 10, but I really enjoyed the brisket and Mac and cheese. The cornbread was also good, but a very small serving was $1.50. Each item is sold ala carte so bring your calculator I didn't have my phone with me so I wasn't able to take photos of all of it. Food was served cafeteria style, and couldn't hear or understand the server over the piano playing yes piano! We didn't know what to expect first time with 8 guests! To my shock at the register 30$ a pound beef ribs. One rib weighed 11/2 pounds yes 45$ . So with one rib 11/2 pounds with bone in very delicious! Also side of mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese and pork nachos all top notch! Special soda also! Over 70$ one person! We were visited by the owner I would guess since she made it clear. She was the only person that did visit the table. We were a bit surprised that on a Saturday at 530 they were out of chicken . We all had beef pork and sausages! 520$ 6 adults 2 kids. Didn't really see a reason for a tip since it's all self serve fountain drinks! Nevertheless they ask for a tip on the bill which is a tricky subject at this place. I used to live in Texas for about three years and then had to move back to the Flint area to take care of a family member in 2014. I was so sad to leave behind some of the best BBQ I had ever eaten down there. Texas BBQ is is a way of life and when I got back to Michigan none of the barbecue joints I had tried really understood how to smoke a brisket. Then I found Scratch. I tasted their food at an event they catered and was blown away. When I heard they were opening a brick and mortar I was so excited for the opportunity to eat their food whenever I wanted. This is the only place in Michigan that does Texas BBQ brisket right! The food is so good and their sides are fantastic. Everything is made from scratch (so it's not just a clever name for a restaurant!) and I'm a huge fan of the Mac and cheese, and their corn bread is to die for. Just like every BBQ place I ever went to in Austin, everything is served al-la-carte and the meat is served by the pound. They even have a pizza station where you can choose from multiple pre-made pizza configurations or build your own, it's all made with hand tossed dough that's made in house. They also host a lot events such as live music, game nights, and more. It's also a great place to watch any ball game, as they have several big screen projectors throughout the space, I caught the U of M football game there a few weeks ago and it was a great spot to enjoy it. They also have a well stocked bar with several craft beers and cocktails to choose from. I think what makes Scratch BBQ even better is that it's a mom and pop operation, so you know your money is being circulated back into our local economy when you give them patronage, unlike many of the other corporate chain restaurants on Miller Rd. I had the BBQ pork nachos, they were delicious, and the portions were generous. The BBQ sauce had just the right amount of twang, and the side of potato salad was a nice flavor compliment. However, I wish I would have gone with the baked beans - next time. From food order to pickup, the process was quick and painless - however this could be due to the minimal number of diners at the time. While dining, we were attended to by a very courteous and extremely attentive young man, named Wyatt. He made sure we had everything we needed, and even brought my sister hot sauce without being asked. He also placed our uneaten food into the "to-go" containers! Thanks Wyatt. There are no other barbecue joints that offer up a variety of local talent (that I know of), and much of the talent (from whom I've seen) is top-notch, whether playing country hits on guitars and banjos or bluesy soul and oldies classics on a piano, this joint is not just great eatin; it's a great experience all around.
