They want to charge me $995 dollars to carve his first name and life-dates on a pre-existing headstone (my mother and father are already buried there). His funeral was arranged at another funeral home near where I live, then we made arrangements to have is body buried next to our mother/father at Rosewood. The headstone engraving fee line item from the funeral home near where we live is $200. Rosewood will not allow the other funeral home's vendor on their property. When I spoke to the manager at Rosewood they told me their policy only allows me buy that through Rosewood -- at a cost of $995. That's an insane price for that service -- I feel like I'm being taken advantage of and gouged by a self-serving policy Rosewood has. P.S. Rosewood had previously charged us $995 to add my father's first name and dates to the headstone alongside my mom's. At the time I thought that was a ridiculous price but with my mom already there and with us using them for the funeral service, they kinda had us over a barrel so I just "ate it". Now that we're adding my brother to the site an I have a competitive $200 quote from another reputable funeral home, there's not a snowball's chance I'm paying them another $995 to do that.

For the owner to question where I was or imply that I "should have found her sooner" is victim‑shaming and completely ignores the facts. I went to this facility years ago searching for my mother. I didn't find her because they placed her under a false name, not one from marriage. Their staff never verified next‑of‑kin, never requested documentation, and accepted a fraudulent authorization from someone with zero legal rights. Under Texas law, I am the only legal next of kin. Under Texas Penal Code, retaining property after being told it is stolen is unlawful. Accepting a falsified identity is forgery. Mishandling remains creates civil liability. No court order is required to return stolen property to its rightful owner. They keep referencing the "grief of a mother," yet completely ignore the grief of a daughter whose mother's ashes were stolen, mislabeled, and kept from her for 21 years. That grief is real, and their actions have only compounded it. This experience has been devastating, and the lack of accountability is unacceptable. BEWARE OF THE ETHICS OF MAGNOLIA FUNNERAL HOME - I found out this week my mother's ashes were placed in Mausoleum without next of kin approval under a fictitious name. Notified Magnolia funeral home. You definitely don't feel like you're dealing with a large, impersonal, company - instead you feel like the entire staff is concentrating on you and your family's needs. Unlike many other funeral homes, when you book Cypress Creek, your family has the entire facility, so you don't have to worry about potential customers walking in and out during your service. Additionally, on the day of your service they greet your guests at the door, guide them to refreshments, and generally assist you in everything you need to have the service run smoothly. The owner, Robert, makes himself available by phone whenever you need him. This was fantastic for us as we had lots of logistical issues due to a once-in-a-decade ice-storm hitting Houston. Many other businesses were closed that day but Cypress Creek, knowing how much we needed them were right there for us. I give them my highest recommendation.
