I accidentally scanned one item twice and was trying to remove it when she immediately questioned me sharply. She also spoke rudely when explaining the quantity limit to my friend. I was polite throughout the interaction, so the way we were treated was upsetting. What made it more uncomfortable was that the employee continued commenting on what we were doing instead of simply allowing us to finish checking out. I normally enjoy shopping at Five Below, but this interaction really ruined what had otherwise been a pleasant shopping trip. I hope management looks into how customers are treated at self-checkout.

There's an awesome range of stuff, from candy to electronics. We went in because I wanted more bath bombs. We wandered all around the store, and ended up with Christmas ornaments (Darth Vader and Baby Yoda), bath bombs, some stocking stuffers, Zatarain's chips, a giant bag of Hot Tamales (oops. I love them), and some other items. The store is large, bright, and clean. It's self-checkout, and you can bring a bag or buy a reusable tote. I think they're $.25 each. The associate who was working was cheerful, friendly, and helpful. There were manned checkouts in Philly, but tbh I don't remember if this store is entirely self-checkout. There's also sports equipment, athletic clothing (very small selection): thermoses, kettle bells, and barbells, as well as some yoga and Pilates stuff. Lots of phone cases and accessories. Perfect place to shop for stocking stuffers or presents. The food section is mostly snacks, but there's a decent selection of chocolate in the candy section.

The only negative thing I can say about this retailer is that they have a horrible layaway policy, but it could possibly be just those particular stores I've visited with a lack of space so you can barely utilize their layaway option. Then, yesterday I placed an online order. There were supposedly only two of an item left that I wanted two of. I suspected that might happen and I was prepared to be told they didn't have them. I was right, but I was never told. My Mom, the person who picked the items up for me, was the one to tell me. As if that wasn't annoying enough, I can't figure out why I'm still being charged for those items. So, I call. "Well", she says, "They're on back order and we should be getting them tomorrow." Like I'm going to ask my Mom to go out of her way to go get them. "Well", she says, "We can cancel them." Yes! Why was I not told? "Well", she says, "Because it's all digitized." Why did I not get a receipt? "Well", she says, "because the pick up doesn't come with a receipt." Please, give me more excuses as to why YOU couldn't do the job you are paid to do! I'd also like to know why my order said it was ready for pickup when it wasn't. Why wasn't I called? It would have been really simple to call me and say, "Two of the items you ordered should be on the truck tomorrow. Would you like to wait for them?" My answer would have been, "Thank you so much for calling me! Yes! We can wait to pick up the rest of the order!"

I don't go to the dollar store for quality- I go there for kitschy or useful things that cost a dollar. Here, not everything does. That said, I enjoy stopping in at my local Dollar Store fairly often. There are always new things, and why pay grocery store prices for things like garlic salt or ice cream toppings when you can get them for $1.00? It frightens me that there is such a thing as dollar store pet food, though- anyone who actually gives that to a pet should be sentenced to eat nothing but Corn Pops for a year. Most of my dollar store shopping is really for my rats- I found some nice placemats to use as cage liners on the shelves of their Ferret Nation cage, and some shower curtain rings and binder clips to fasten the placemats and their hammocks into the cage.
