Going around the supermarkets I've noticed how expensive cleaning products and basic household goods are in this city!! Thank goodness for this shop! Finally a place which understands that "the basics" we all need in life shouldn't cost a small fortune. I managed to get everything on my shopping list and a bit more as I went a bit wild due to the prices! I am such a bargain hunter and hate being ripped just because the supermarket was "convenient". My bank does not find it "convenient"!! Most polishes, hand wash, cloths, shaving foam was $1 each so not too bad. There's a cheap linen and bedding place next door as well as clothes shops to kit you out and find everything you need!! read more

You sorta just hope for the bad and brace for the worse when you come to family dollar. But this location wasn't the worst. Nothing quite costs a dollar anymore but prices are cheaper than what you would find other places except for maybe a grocery outlet. I came here around 4pm on a Wednesday. It was quiet. They were working hard to restock the place. Most of the boxes were right at the front and in the back. The middle aisles were generally clear. It's late August and they already had Halloween items out. Some of their back wall items weren't in stock as some of those shelves were bare. They also have laundry items locked up and so you have to see an associate to get access to those items. Cashiers are up front. Don't expect the most talkative bunch. The place is a bit dingy and a bit dodgy but bright nonetheless. read more

See all

I have been going to Family Dollar for years. Not this location but all over the city and this one is just Meh. The cashiers were having there own conversation and I felt like I was interrupting them. When I did get to the counter the cashier wasn't really interactive with me. Listen I wasn't trying to get her name or know about her family but I felt like in her head she was thinking "You buy and get the heck out of my line!" Now again I said I felt this way she didn't say it! They do have many household items that are cheaper than even Walmart and that is why I like Family Dollar but there aren't as many locations on my side of town. I was able to get my Christmas Tree from there for $15 dollars but it still looks like a Charlie Brown Tree, but I'm still going to make it look fabulous. I mean Hey it was $15 I wasn't expecting much. They even had some trees for $10 which is why I came to this location in the first place. I will only be back because this is the location around me so with that everyone... Enjoy!!! read more

Still love to come here - actually found some spray clorox on Friday which I have not been able to find anywhere! They had some issues so it was cash only but everything is pretty reasonable here so it worked out OK for me. The staff is friendly - always say hi when you come in. I buy cleaning supplies, candy, and sometimes lotion, shampoo, cough syrup. Oh and greeting cards and bags. Great place to have in the neighborhood with easy street parking. read more

I don't drive so I run errands on foot all day so I had a tiny bag of stuff I bought somewhere else with a receipt and they demanded I "leave my extra bag at the front" in a pile with other peoples things. No method of figuring out what belongs to who and these guys NEVER stay at their registers so no way in hell was I leaving my stuff there to be stolen. I said that's ridiculous it's not even from your store. They demanded so I said ok then I'll leave. I walked away as they made some cocky BYEEEEE remarks. They treated me like a thief. I won't be returning. Also, last time I came here an employees muttered curse words under his breath about how much he hated it there and hates all the food he's angrily stocking (or should I say throwing) on the shelvesHe legitimately scared me. Update - One nice, new male employee but as I was waiting to pay I heard a female cashier yell to another, "that crazy man is in line!" read more

This Family Dollar location is my go-to store for household items like cleaning supplies, toilet paper, and paper towels. Not only is it within walking distance of my house, but they have most of the same name brand products I'd buy elsewhere and they're typically cheaper than Target. The line always seems long because there are only 2 cashiers, but usually I'm in and out pretty quickly. read more

are you on a budget? Family Dollar can help you stretch your dollar till it screams. while Target is fun, it's not that budget friendly. i like Family Dollar because it helps me save on things i don't need to spend top dollar on: cleaning products and non-comestibles. (do *not* buy food here. just...to be safe.) why should i spend full price on toilet paper, feminaries or dishwashing liquid? with Family Dollar, i don't have to! read more

This store is great. The staff are very polite. There is never a long line or wait. I wanted to personally say thank you to the cashier Omar. He did a great job the other day. read more

The people are rude they closed 6 mins early and the short girl is rude she should not work at this kind of place I feel sorry for this Store company for hiring rude and no ethics read more

What a fantastic store and it's within a short walking distance from me. Forget the over-priced bodegas and the infrequent pharmacies in the neighborhood, family dollar has everything and more; it's insanely cheap and opened late even on Sundays (until 11 pm!!). read more

Oh, hey. Did you hear we're in the middle of a recession? Yeah, me too! Which means that even the gainfully employed folks are trying to pinch a few pennies when possible. Guess what? Dollar stores suddenly became socially acceptable places to buy household stuff. Now, I wouldn't buy my undies or shoes here or anything, but Family Dollar sells items like cleaning supplies, light bulbs, clothing hangers, toothpaste, etc. at an absolute fraction of the cost of Target and CVS. Duh, you know that, right? So why the hell don't we go to the dollar store? The "creepy" factor, I'm guessing. Interestingly enough, Family Dollar on Chicago Ave. manages to be relatively clean, semi-organized and even has a decidedly non-scary clientele. Sure, there are missing tiles on the floor, which is also kind of caving in a bit near the Tupperware aisle, they're frugal with the air conditioning and there's only one cashier, but I'd like to think these things happen because they're keeping the overhead low to deliver cheapie goods. And I can deal with that. I walked out with three enormous bags of stuff for about $13. Can't beat it. And they take credit cards! Double bonus: No weird smell. You know what I'm talking about, all dollar stores have that slightly icky smell of must, dust and old Christmas decorations. Not the case at this Family Dollar! read more

The prices are way too expensive . Not worth the trip. One 3 volt battery for 4 bucks lol

Love this store good team and sales open to 10pm For late shopping find every dang I need read more

This was a really sparsely stocked and poor selection for a store- I mean come on I know it's family dollar- but it was gross and most products they do carry they didn't have it was very strange. I left confused and saddened it was the higher rated within my new 'hood. I may have to go north to visit my old one when needed. Also, I'm used to them having at least a small lot, the meter parking was a pain and I've never had such an inattentive sales person I get your making minimum wage, but he was so aloof he dropped my items several times when putting them in the bag. read more

I cannot believe the way this dollar treats its customers. About three or four weeks ago, I went in only to buy a bag of chips. There was only one clerk and a long line. So I went elsewhere and when I returned, the line had not shortened, but something else was going on. A man with a full shopping cart was being told that he could not take the cart out to his car--but the car was parked on the curb DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE STORE!!! He had to walk out his entire purchase two bags at a time. He was incredibly pissed. I would have been, too. Were they worried that he would put the shopping cart in the back seat of a brand-new SUV and drive off? I complained about their Uptown store, but it clearly did no good. Their prices, of course, are more than reasonable. However, I would rather pay a little more at a store where they appreciate my business. BTW, I never did get that bag of chips. It is just something I will not wait in line for. read more

Can get windshield wiper fluid, dog food, cereal, and other household supplies for much cheaper than corner stores or department chains. Family Dollar is a hidden gem in this filthy n overpriced city we call home. The nice cashier Kushstina always keeps it real with a smile and positive attitude. Making this a truly special location. read more

Ppl here don't know how to count change. My mom went in and she doesn't know how to speak English and this African American guy didn't understood her, he said that the payment didn't go through and so my mom gave him $20 more and he was suppose to give her money back and he didn't, so Make sure to keep track in the money you give them or else they are going to keep your change read more

I'm giving this one star after shopping here for three years. Any employee that thinks they have a right to order me to take my items out of the basket and stands there with her hands on her hips like she was otherwise occupied, with an attitude like she's Cleopatra when I am the paying customer, gets the store a big fat ZERO in my books. She might want to remember that the reason she is working at the family dollar is because she is her own worst enemy. The words "F*** YOU" came out of her mouth in front of the whole store. Real nice. I will be taking my money back to the Walgreens where I am served with a smile and people willing to make the effort to scan my items without making a huge scene or giving me an attitude. Sure, FD prices may be bottom dollar, but so is the appalling service. It's worth it to me to spend a few more dollars and not deal with the crappy service and the massive lines this store always has. Don't waste you time. Save money in other ways....like using Shaklee cleaning products that cost mere pennies on the dollar over time and don't destroy the environment like the 1 dollar bleach at Family Dollar. I only went to this store to buy cat food, but I won't mind paying at extra 25 cents at Walgreens. In the end you really get what you pay for at Family Dollar...cheap in all regards. I'm very low maintenance when it comes to shopping. I buy my produce at Stanley's and I know a lot of people that wont shop there because of the lackluster service...but no one there has ever said "F*** YOU" to me because they weren't happy with what they were doing for work. read more
