Fernando built two custom cabinets and a desk for me in November 2013. I was very pleased with the look and design of the cabinets. He had suggested using MDF as apposed to wood, since they were being painted to match kitchen cabinets. I initially thought that seemed like a great money saving idea. There was great attention to detail in the design. Fernando suggested installing media storage drawers, which have turned out to be my favorite feature of the tv cabinet. The cabinets were very handsome!
I was a little discouraged at how difficult it was to schedule a time for installation, and there was some delay. It was a newly purchased house, and we were anxious to get things put away, so the wait seemed like forever.
On the day of installation Fernando and Jose were professional and friendly. I was pleased with the cabinets!
We've now owned the cabinets for more than three years and I have to mention how disappointed I have been with the durability of the finish. The paint chips with the slightest touch. The desk surface is scratched and marred, and anywhere that gets touched frequently is really scuffed up! It's been a huge disappointment!
I am now looking to list the house for sale. I called Fernando to see if there is any possibility of a paint touch-up so they won't look so bad. He quoted me the price of $65 an hour plus materials. I told him I was willing to pay, and he told me he'd check the schedule.
A week later I again contacted him to arrange a date and time for someone to come. He responded to my call with a text offering me Jose's phone number and told me they are very busy so there may be a delay. I called Jose and left a voice message. After no response was provided, I called the next day and Jose answered and informed me he would stop by at the end of the next day to look at it and take a piece of the drawer with him to match the paint. He called late in the day to get my address ( which he should have already had, because the original purchase information had already been found). I informed him I would text my address.
Immediately after speaking to him, a potential buyer showed up at the door to view my house at the same time as someone else came to give me an estimate for a job. I got sidetracked and never sent my address. That was my fault, but when I called him back thirty minutes later, he was almost back to the office (about 15 minutes from my place). He informed me he would have to try to find a new time to come when he is out my way again. That was two days ago. I understand that was kind of my fault I missed him, but I honestly don't expect him to ever get back to me with a new time to stop by.
I think at this point I will give up on trying to get the furniture repaired. I know some are likely reading this and thinking any furniture could look scratched after three years, but this furniture finish has practically rubbed off, and within just a few months of installation there were already large chips and scratches! I paid thousands of dollars and hoped for quality work. It almost seems like the clear coat that was to be applied over the top of the paint was never applied.
When people have commented on my beautiful cabinets, I want to recommend Falton Cabinets to them, but restrain myself because of how poor the finish has been. I have IKEA furniture that has followed me from Germany that has all withstood the test of time better than Fernando's custom cabinets. It seems a shame to make that kind of comparison! I would have been happy to give a rave review, even after the defects, if only Fernando would come and see what I'm talking about and make it right, even at my own expense. It seems Fernando and Jose aren't bothered to do so! read more
