We worked with Ryan and the KHB team on a full remodel of our 1984 "forever home" in Tracy, CA. From the beginning, KHB stood out for their transparency, strong portfolio, self-proclaimed in-house design capabilities, and modern, tech-forward communication. While most GCs arrived with pen and paper, Ryan came prepared with an iPad Pro full of project timelines, picture examples, and clear explanations of how KHB manages projects end-to-end. This was our first remodel of this scale, and Ryan did a great job helping us understand realistic budget ranges while presenting multiple options--from staying close to budget to a true "dream home" scope. In the end, we remodeled nearly the entire 3,700 sq ft home: structural changes, HVAC replacement, windows, custom cabinetry, hardwood flooring, fireplace masonry work and interior/exterior paint. It was truly a "WHOLE" home renovation. The Good KHB ultimately delivered exactly what we hoped for. Our home now feels like a brand new modern, efficient smart home with excellent fit and finish throughout. The craftsmanship and attention to detail were satisfactory. Communication and transparency were excellent. They used BuilderTrend app for scheduling, updates, invoices, photos, and daily progress tracking, which made the stresses a renovation process much easier to navigate and keep tabs on. Our superintendent, Parker, was fantastic--professional, positive, and attentive throughout delays and inevitable remodel hiccups. KHB's in-house crews were also consistently friendly, punctual, and communicative. The "Just OK" KHB's advertised "design-build" model is a major advantage on paper, but their design process required more hand-holding than we expected. Our designer was talented, but some meetings lacked clarity around finishes and final material details, which created uncertainty later in the project. We joke about it now, but we didn't truly know what our shower wall slabs would look like (across 3 different bathrooms being remodeled) until installation began...just a couple months before completion. As a recommendation to KHB and/or potential customers reading this review, I'd ask for a choice of designers upfront to better align with a client's communication style and attention to detail. Next, the most frustrating part of the project wasn't entirely KHB's fault, but the permitting process with the City of Tracy. What was originally estimated as a 6-8 week review timeframe stretched to nearly six months. In my view, most of the delay was due to the city's slow turnaround times, though some responsibility also fell on revisions and corrections needed during multiple review rounds. Lastly, there were a few subcontractors that didn't seem to match KHB's otherwise high standards. For example, I suspected early on that our new HVAC system wasn't functioning properly, and it took persistent follow-up--and even bringing in an independent HVAC company--before the issue was fully addressed. Thankfully everything works properly now, but that particular subcontractor experience felt inconsistent with the quality we saw elsewhere on the project. The Final Word Overall, despite the inevitable challenges that come with a project of this size, we are genuinely happy we chose KHB Construction for our remodel. Whole-home renovations are stressful, expensive, and full of moving parts, but KHB delivered a finished product that completely transformed our house into the modern, functional home we envisioned. Their communication, organization, craftsmanship, and willingness to tackle a highly customized project were all standout strengths. While there are certainly areas where the experience could be refined--particularly around parts of the design process and consistency among a few subcontractors--the final result speaks for itself and we feel like we received a 5-star experience. If you value transparency, strong project management, and high-quality execution, KHB is absolutely worth considering for a major renovation project. read more

No communication after initial consultation! I had an appointment on 3/27 for an initial consultation for our full home remodel. Hailey, our sales rep, arrived on time and conducted a professional walk-through to hear our ideas. We discussed rough quotes for the kitchen and bathroom remodels, and she presented the option of a $10k design phase contract as a first step. We wanted to compare multiple contractors before committing and requested a written quotation first. The next day, I followed up via voicemail and text to ask about the quotation and clarify any questions. I received no response. I followed up again on 3/31 but did not receive a reply. Based on this, I assume the company is not interested, but I would have appreciated clear communication rather than no response at all. read more

Ryan and the whole team at KHB are so professional and great to work with. They strive to keep an accurate calendar and are very transparent with all costs and expectations. They were responsive and problem-solved so well when faced with unexpected challenges. Our home remodel included our kitchen, powder room, laundry room, raising our sunken front living room (!!) and all flooring and paint throughout our 3600 sf home. We hired this incredible crew of professionals to renovate our kitchen and living areas, inclusive of taking down walls and replacing floors throughout the house. Our house was an outdated, closed off, farmhouse and with their design services we crafted a vision for open concept living. The crew at KHB delivered on the vision and transformed our home to something we did not know was possible. The quality of their work, product and craftsmanship was outstanding. Ryan and team just completed a 2 week project of completely renovating an old, ugly, and very hot, sunroom into a sparkling new and air-conditioned bonus room. They installed a whole new 30' wall, doors, windows, lights, fans, paint, and a split unit hvac. Their communication, proposal process, professionalism, and quality was superb!! Although the project was probably small for them, it was a huge deal for us...and they treated it, and us, as a priority customer and completed every detail we discussed. There was a project manager every day and we had clear line of sight on the daily activities and completion times. To top it all off, they are super nice guys and we enjoyed getting to know them. This is an excellent contractor to work with! My family and I worked with KHB to complete a number of projects for a recently purchased home. Let me highlight our experience: 1. Ryan was on time for the initial bid walk-through and provided the quote on-time as promised during the meeting. That's rare in this business. We had several bids from other contractors either come much later or not arrive at all. 2. Their pricing was very fair and the contract process was detailed and easy to complete online. 3. The crew arrived on time to start the project and kept us informed throughout the process, which took a month to complete. Special thanks here to Doug, who was just an awesome site manager to work with all around. I wish every site manager in the construction industry was like Doug. 4. We had our bathtub remodeled into a walk in shower. From the first meeting with Ryan the salesman and Doug the manager of our project it was a great experience. They worked up a quote and when it was a little over my budget they worked with me to get within my budget. They set us up with a decorator to help us with tile selection and design. I've moved seven times in the past 30 years so I am very familiar with home remodeling projects. New construction is pretty straightforward but tearing into something that somebody else built for a remodel can be another story. I used KHB Construction to remodel part of my kitchen and build out a workbench and garage cabinets. Like most projects, there were some challenges repurposing some things, but the KHB crew stayed with it until they found a way to do it. Unlike many contractors who aren't at the job site but just direct subs over the phone, I always had Ryan, Matthew, Janice, or someone there to make sure the job was on track and being done right. They started when they said they would, and stayed with the job until it was done. You can tell they take a lot of pride in their work, and they are very accommodating to make sure the customer is happy. I learned many remodeling projects ago that you get what you pay for.
